The Sutherland Shire Futsal Association will enter teams into the Football NSW Futsal State Championships in November 2008.

The under 10’s development squad coached by Jim Apostolovski will be represented in our domestic level competition on Sunday’s at Menai and have also been involved in the Futsalroo Clinics.

Jim Apostolovski says, “I am delighted to be associated with SSFA again this year, we had a outstanding NSW Tournament last year, finishing 2nd in the State. SSFA headed by Jonathan Simnett and with the appointment of Hector Martinez cements our force and commitment to Futsal in Australia. This year I am introducing new techniques and training methods to better our boys in domestic, State & National competition that has been schedule for our under 10s team to participate.”

The under 10’s “selected” team will represent Sutherland Shire at the Football Federation Australia(FFA) National Futsal Clubs Championships in October 2008 in Canberra (ACT) hosted by Capital Football. This event will see the best under 10’s teams from all over Australia play against each other to determine who will be crowned champion under 10’s team of Australia.

To be selected you are required to attend a Futsalroo coaching clinic and play in our local under 10’s competition at either Endeavour High School, Thursdays or Sundays at Menai.

The Sutherland Shire Fustal Association is proud to announce the coaching staff for the 2008 – 2009 Football NSW Futsal Super League season.

Under 12s Boys will be coached by Lee Pepper, FFA Level 1 Futsal accredited. Team Manager being Mr Alan Garlick

Under 14s Boys will be coached by Steve Siminovski, AFC C Licence and FFA Level 1 Futsal accredited. Team Manager to be advised.

Under 16s Boys will be coached by Hector Martinez FAA (Football Association Argentina) Level 5 (International). Under 16s assistant coach to be advised. Team Manager being Mr Ken Swift.

Under 19s Youth Mens will be coached by Hector Martinez FAA Level 5. Assistant coach and team manager to be advised.

All Age Mens will be coached by Hector Martinez FAA Level 5. Assistant coach and team manager to be advised.

Under 13s and 16s girls coaches and managers to be advised. All Age Womens to be coached by Dennis Church FFA level 2 Futsal accredited. Team manager to be advised.

Sydney Benfica Futsal Club will be holding final trials for the following age groups to compete in the 2008/09 FNSW Futsal Super League.

All players must wear shin pads and long socks that cover the entire shin pad.
All jewellery must be removed before the start of any game, without exception.
All Sydney Benfica FC teams will participate in the FNSW State Titles, which will ensure that all players are eligible for selection trials for the Nationals.

The Futsal Winter State League Finals were held last night at the Sports Halls Homebush.

In the first semi final it was the first placed Sydney Benfica taking on fourth place Quake. Both sides played some enterprising Futsal in the opening half with Osmar Barros putting Benfica in front with a well executed goal. The second half was much of the same with both sides moving the ball around the court nicely. Both sides also squandered a number of chances but it was Benfica who went two-nil up with another well worked goal by Marcelo Andace. This woke the Quake boys up and with the Final five minutes Quake turned the match on its head with two quick goals scored by Tim Simpson. The Quake boys were firing and they completed a dramatic comeback when goal poacher Tuan Cao found himself free at the far post to tap in and send Quake through to the final.

Semi final two was the surprise packets of the competition the young Plumpton side taking on the experienced Dural Warriors. This was another nail biting fixture with Dural Warriors taking an early advantage and skipping out to a two-nil lead. Plumpton finally settled down but then found themselves down three-nil down. The Plumpton side lead by Daniel Fogarty never gave in and began to take the game to Dural and with two quick goals it was game on in the final minutes. Plumpton then drew level with a well worked goal and the dying minutes the game was there for the taking. Dural regained their composure and found the winner to move to the final to take on Quake to decide the winter state league champion side.

The women’s final was the clash of the titans with both sides having a great battle through the round games with both tasting victory. SBS show The World Game was on hand to witness the show piece of the women’s state league. Sydney tragic reverted back to their Sydney Magic strip for the final and they started the stronger taking the lead on six minutes when a defensive error by quake lead to Tragic taking the early lead. Quake then started to play the Futsal that saw them finish top of the league and were unlucky not to draw level when they had two shots cleared of the line, Kaylee Doyle the hero for Tragic on both occasions. Tragic took the lead to the break and they game was up in the air with either side capable to taking the spoils. The second half Tragic went two-nil up and left Quake with it all to do in the remainder of the match. Quake got back into the contest with a deflected goal that breathed life into the Quake girls. In the closing minutes they peppered the goal but unfortunately it wasn’t to be and the bounce of the ball was not on their side today. Congratulations to Sydney Tragic on being crowned Futsal winter state league champions for 2008

Player of the final was awarded to Clare Walsh from Quake.

In the men’s final Dural Warriors lead by Greg Giovenali took on the experienced Quake side lead by Simon Keith. Both sides started the match cautiously and were just waiting for either side to make a mistake. Both sides created a number of chances in the opening period but neither could find the elusive breakthrough. The second half saw the pressure building , Quake was trying to stamp there authority on the match creating a number of opportunities eventually taking the lead with a screamer by Gary Seymour a goal worthy of any final. With Quake leading one-nil Dural gave it their all to get back into the match but a cheap turn over allowed Quake to pounce and allowed Mark Symington to put Quake two-nil up. The experienced Quake side held on to take the victory and be crowned 2008 Futsal winter state league men’s champions.

The Association has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Ex Argentinian and Australian International and founder of the Bondi Football Academy Pty Ltd, Mr Hector Martinez.

As the Technical Director, Hector will Coach the Under 16 Boy’s, Under 19 Youth Men and All Age Men’s teams playing in the 2008 – 2009 Football NSW Futsal Super League. Hector will soon appoint his assistant coach.

Hector will provide training and development for each of the Coaches who are representing the Sutherland Shire, as the Futsal Association continues it’s commitment to Coach and Player development.

Hector has played Football at an International level for Argentina and also played Futsal for Australia back in the 1980’s. The Sutherland Shire Futsal Association President, Jonathan Simnett said that “Hector is very keen to promote the “beautiful game” and teach the secrets of the South American Football”.

The MOU will also see the Futsal Association assist in developing opportunities and promote Bondi Football Academy products and services.

Open trials for the Under 16 Boy’s, Under 19 Youth Men’s and All Age Men’s will be Sunday 3rd and 10th August 2008 from 12 noon – 1pm at Menai Indoor Sports Centre. For more information about Super League and trials call Jonathan Simnett on 0417 042 145 or email secretary@shirefutsal.com.au
