Launceston Vikings Futsal Junior Schools Results (TAS)
Congratulations to the winning teams in Launceston’s first ever Vikings Futsal Junior Schools Competition.
With the Launceston Christian School Warriors winning the grade 4 boys division the previous week, the grade 5/6 boys and girls grand finals took place on Monday 25th August.
The Riverside Predators headed into the grade 5/6 boys final undefeated, but with the Launceston Christian School Eagles showing great form late in the roster, it was bound to be a tight match.
Riverside Predators started the match the strongest, but only managed to reward themselves with a slight 1 nil lead at half time. The LCS Eagles came out firing in the second half, tying the match at 2-2 at the final whistle. The game headed into extra time, with both teams fighting furiously for a late winner. With the scores still level at the end of extra time, the match went to penalties.
Riverside and state representative under 11 keeper, Josh Stephens, showed his natural shot blocking skills, helping Riverside Predators to win 3-2 on penalties.
The grade 5/6 girls Grand Final between Launceston Christian School Cheetahs and Tas North also promised to be a big event, with Tas North leading their head-to-head count 2-1.
The match started quite evenly, with both teams forcing saves from the opposition’s keeper frequently.
Tas North led 1 nil at half time, but the LCS Cheetahs were far from beaten. The game remained 1 nil for the majority of the second half, until the LCS Cheetahs were forced to throw everyone forward in order to snatch a late equaliser. They were punished on the break by a ruthless Tas North, the game finishing 5-1 in favour of Tas North. Congratulations to Rebecca Burns (Tas North) and Mickayla Anderson (LCS Cheetahs) for their great performances in the match.
Congratulations also to all teams who competed in the event, and we look forward to seeing them all compete again in 2009!
A special mention to Launceston Christian School for their continuous support and loyalty to the sport.

Cameron Apostolovski joins Sutherland Shire (NSW)
On the Football & Futsal fields, they call him ‘Chi Chi’, the little maestro who is tuff as nails, with a bag full of tricks – the little magician has been selected to represent Sutherland Shire Futsal Association (SSFA) in the up and coming Football NSW State Futsal Championships and Under 12 Futsal Nationals in Canberra, at a ripe young age of just 10.
Cameron was recommended by SSFA Technical Director & 1st Grade Coach, Hector Martinez, who is well regarded in the Football World.
Hector Martinez former Argentinean International says ‘Chi Chi is young, but he has a lot of talent in terms of skill, technique & vision, similar to the young Leon Messi’.
‘His ball movement is very good, he is very impressive. Whether he progresses with his skills will be something to wait and see in coming years, but he has the attitude to be anything’
Cameron is a part of the under 10s Sutherland Futsal development squad and has been attending the SSFA hosted Futsalroo coaching clinics where current and former Australian Futsal International players develop and enhance the skill of young players.
The President of the Futsal Association, Jonathan Simnett also said “the selection of ‘Chi Chi’ proves the benefits of Futsal are an integral platform for developing young players. We are pleased that such a caliber of player is within our Community and that our Association fits within the building and enhancing of each players Sporting excellence.
Cameron began kicking the ball around the backyard aged three with his father. He was identified by the Football NSW (HPU) program at six. He plays club Football with APIA Leichhardt Tigers.
His father Jim added: ‘Chi Chi is passionate about his Football & Futsal and dedicated to using Futsal as a tool to develop his Football skills and one day he looks forward to play in the A League and entertain Sydneysiders and maybe the World.’
Register your team to play in the local competition at Endeavour Sports High against “Chi Chi” and his team played Thursday nights & Sunday mornings, for more information contact Jonathan Simnett 0417 042 145 or email president@shirefutsal.com.au or go to www.shirefutsal.com.au
