Tasmanian Futsal News

Winter Carnival

Recently on the 19th of August Vikings Futsal Tasmania in conjunction with the Southern Primary School Sports Association ran once again Futsal in the Winter Carnival sports day.

Every year Viking Futsal Tasmania runs this one day event for grade 5/6 primary school students in the south of the state and it has grown considerably from year to year. For the first time the event was run at Tasmania’s “Home of Futsal” the Tasmanian Hockey Centre on the state of the art artificial turf.  The event hosted over 60 public school teams and over 500 students from the southern region which was an overwhelming success once again.

There were 12 groups and prizes were given to the winners of each group with all participants receiving pennants.

One thing that stood out on the day was that nearly all successful school teams included a number of the Tasmanian Islanders Futsal Academy kids which is a credit to the strength of the academy programs and also the expertise that Vikings Futsal coaches are able to pass on to players through their programs.
Summer Season South

The Southern Tasmanian Futsal league is looking to have its strongest season ever at the Tasmanian Hockey Centre in Hobart this year. Already the numbers are up on last year with an influx of grass roots age children flocking through the door. The number of programs offering pathways to the children from 3-6 yr olds right through to seniors is what is attracting the biggest amount of interest with Tasmania having kids keenly anticipating academy programs and state team selections like never before.

I am expecting that we will have in excess of 100 junior teams this summer at the club minimum with competitions in 7yrs and under, 8yrs, 9yrs, 10yrs, 11yrs, 12yrs, 13yrs, 14yrs, 15yrs in both boys and girls and then in excess of 80 senior teams in the divisions 16-19yr youth, social mens, social womens, c grade men, b grade men, a grade men and a grade women.

This will be a state first with these sort of numbers and shows the strength Futsal as a sport has in Tasmania now with the partnerships it has created.

National School Titles

In 2008 Tasmania will be sending away over 200 players to the National School Futsal Titles in Dandenong. The Vikings School Futsal titles within Tasmania bought over 100 school teams together and from there teams were selected for this prestigious competition. Teams from all three Tasmanian regions will be participating with many of the players that participated in the Tasmanian Islanders Futsal Academies ready to put into practise what they have learned during the year.

Tasmania is expecting a strong showing at the National School Titles and are confident that they will have their best ever results due to the amount of elite Futsal training the kids have been exposed to.

National Club Titles

In 2009 Tasmania will participate in the Vikings National Club Titles for the first time and we are expecting to have teams in a range of age groups from youngsters through to seniors.

Trials will be kicking off shortly after the start of the summer season and we are expecting some pretty strong sides with the number of players we have in our rosters.

These teams will be Tasmanian state sides and our sides are very much looking forward to the first time challenge.
