Sutherland vs. Benfica under 13 girls match report (NSW)
Our Sutherland under 13 girls were looking forward to this game as we knew it was going to be close. We know that Sydney Benfica must of been looking forward to reversing the 3-2 score line from our win during the 5 Star Futsal gala day at Menai.
Less than a minute into the game and a fumble from our kick off sees Benfica in our goal area with the keeper to beat. Jessica gets horizontal and deflects the shot wide with her legs. We all take a moment to let our hearts start beating again.
Benfica kept attacking but our defensive trio of Morgan, Taylor, and Mikhaela kept them out. Things started to turn our way and we began to press our opposition goal thanks to Natalie and Kirrily.
A fine performance by the Benfica keeper despite our best efforts kept us scoreless until a 17th minute counter attack by Benfica two on one resulted in the first goal of the match to bring half time to 0 – 1 to Benfica.
In the second half Natalie was working overtime at pivot and doing a great job. A poor goal clearance by Benfica saw Bronte quick to capitalise and level the scores 1 – 1.
A few minutes later a great team goal was started off by Natalie and finished with beautiful combination by Jessica and Morgan 2 – 1 to Sutherland.
Now Benfica doubled their efforts and Mikhaela as goal keeper was making save after save, including a rocket to the midsection.
The last 8 minutes saw us desperately defending our lead. Bronte did a superb job as we rotated her to pivot and with Kirrily as target Sutherland forced Benfica into errors. Sutherland preserved the lead to the final whistle.
Sutherland under 13 girls left the court very happy, we just love to play and we are glad for the development that we are getting from playing for Sutherland in Futsal. The player of the match was our super goal keeper Mikhaela Natta.

Kurukuru welcomed home in a parade
The national Futsal team Kurukuru paraded the main roads of Honiara on Monday as part of their welcome home celebrations.
The team have not won any of their matches at the Futsal World Cup but they have certainly won many hearts on their trip to Brazil .
They have gained valuable knowledge of the game at a professional level.
The team management said their participation in the recent World Cup has given much needed experience and confidence.
Head of delegation of the Kurukuru, Nathaniel Seru, revealed this yesterday at a press conference at the SIFF academy.
“The experience the boys have will surely prepare them for the future and gained confidence to go with their natural skills. Now the boys will have confidence, which is a much needed ingredient when playing professional sides like Brazil ,” he said.
Coach Victor Wa’ii said his boys were playing against very high standard professional players with good facilities and professional training.
So it was hard for his young inexperienced boys to cope with their game.
But he said it was good experience and next time round they will see a very different Solomon Islands team in the next four years.
“The boys will stay together and start their training next month. They will have the rest of the month to rest and start training next month,” he said.
The Kurukuru coach said the players have four tears to prepare for the next one.
“We need to expose our coaches to learn overseas for a month or two and come back and feed our players of the knowledge for the next four years,” he said.
He also revealed at the press conference that the President of Futsal in Brazil has pledged his support to help in the technical areas of the game.
This is part of their development plans.
Kurukuru captain, Elliot Ragomo, said it’s a big achievement and a building block for them despite the results. “It’s time to think ahead and prepare while the experience is still fresh in our minds,” he said.
He also predicts that the next time they will be a very different powerful team.
Meanwhile Kurukuru were described as playing a unique game in the world stage because of the joy and peace shown throughout the tournament.

Honours even between the Hawkesbury Commodores and Inner West Allstars (NSW)
In the NSW Futsal Premier League on Sunday night it was major honours all square as Hawkesbury Commodores defeated Inner West Allstars 5-3 in the open men’s competition but lost 2-3 to their visitors in the open women’s.
The women’s match had started well for Hawkesbury as Lauren Ralston had a double chance but after the keeper denied her first shot her second effort went over the bar, a sign of things to come for the locals. Four minutes in and Samantha Muscat stole the ball off Amy Sarandopoulos to go one on one with the Allstars’ keeper Tani Rosekelly. She beat the keeper but saw the ball go the wrong side of the far post.
Then a double save, the first from a free kick, by the visiting goal keeper saw the Allstars quickly break forward and the ball fell to Renee Tomkins who stepped to her left and around her marker and fired the ball low into the far corner for the first goal of the match on the six minute mark.
An equaliser came to the Commodores in the tenth minute when a ball came in from the sideline to Ashley Connor on the edge of the area. She turned her defender and as the keeper quickly rushed to cut her shot off she slid it past and into the back of the net.
In the 14th minute a free kick went the way of the Allstars and the ball was laid off to Nicole Laws who managed to shoot the ball through all the traffic and into the back of the net to put her team back in front. Another freekick to the visitors a minute later came to nothing, as did efforts from the home side in the 18th (Connor shooting just past the post) and the 19th minute (Kathryn Mladineo almost flicking on a shot by Muscat.)
Into the second half and Mladineo backheaded a free kick just over the bar for the Commodores before a classic interchange of passes from Muscat, Ralston and Mladineo laid on a good chance which was not taken. Then Mladineo stole the ball from Dominique Caridad but an acrobatic Rosekelly in goals denied her shot.
A minute before the half hour and the Allstars demonstrated great passing all of their own but this time also showed how to finish it. Caridad played the ball to Koo Barbi on the right hand side and she passed it to an unmarked Sarandopoulos in the middle of the park who easily slotted home.
At 1-3 the match looked lost, especially as the Commodore’s long-range efforts were proving to be ineffective. Then with six minutes to go Muscat collected the ball in a dangerous position, dragged it back across her body and fired it into the back of the net to give the home side a sniff of a result. However the Allstars stood strong, with particular fine saves being made in goal by Rosekelly.
With two minutes to go the clincher should have gone the way of Caridad but her shot was saved by the brilliance of Michelle Dingwall in the Commodore’s goal. Then with the last kick of the game Ralston takes a crack at goal and sees it clip the wrong side of the cross bar and go over for no result.
The match was a fiery affair but more intensity was to come in the men’s match.
This game also started with action as Dean Storey had an early shot denied thanks to a great save from Lionel DeSouza in the Commodores goal. However two minutes later the Allstars were in front. Adrian Vizzari played the ball in from deep to Tim Mascarello who, whilst man marked, back flicked the ball into the path of the advancing Vizzari, who’s final effort was as good as the lead up work.
Three minutes later and the home side were also on the scoresheet with Bill Tsioumas demonstrating great skill with the ball in beating Robert Greenway in the Allstars goal to equalise. The Allstars tried to strike back quickly but the most pressure the Commodore’s got was from their own mistakes when playing the ball out of defence.
In the 13th minute two shots from Chris Dingwall were denied by Greenway with parries, but the second parry went to Tom Gecke who headed the ball home to give the local side the lead. In the same minute Vizarri played the ball to Joseph Foti who turned on it and shoots goal wards but just wide of the target. The following minute saw world class saves at both ends as first Greenway denied Tsioumas and then DeSouza denied Jeffrey Bugallo.
A speculative effort from distance by Daniel Murchison gave the Commodores a two-goal gap to go into the break with although there was time in between for Allstar’s Lachlan Wright to smash the post with his shot.
Early in the second half long range efforts from the likes of Dean Storey came to nothing for the visitors. At the other end Greenway was keeping his side in the match with a series of good saves. Then in the 32nd minute he could not deny Geckie a double as he had the ball laid to him by Murchison from the right and fired it home from distance.
Almost immediately the Allstars looked to have struck back but Bugallo’s brilliant volley was off-target.
Goals at either end in the 36th minute kept the difference in the score the same with Storey miss-kicking the ball into Chris Dingwall who saw the ball come of him and brother Scott sneak to the ball just before Greenway and toe poke the team’s fifth goal. However Allstars’ Bugallo collected the ball from the kick off and fired home to make the score 5-2.
With ten minutes to go second half goal keeper for the Commodores, Shane Linton, pulled off a triple save before denying Joseph Foti after he completed a mazy run with a tricky shot. By this stage it was all the visitors with the locals managing efforts only on breaks, although one of these saw Scott Dingwall’s effort beat the keeper but canon off the post.
In the 46th minute Nino Fragassi broke away from the defence and smashed the ball home to give the visitors a third and the feeling a draw may be achievable but in the end it was the final goal of a hard fought, and entertaining, match.

Adelaide Stingrays Vs Victoria Wolves
What a game this was, it had everything. Very fast paced game with plenty of skills on display. A great crowd cheering their teams on to victory. The game began very good defences didn’t allow any team to penetrate until the last 8 minutes a great build up from the Stingrays pushing the ball around, a great pass putting Spiros on the back post scoring the first goal. Stingrays scored again as they unsettled the well drilled Victorian side. Vic Wolves fought back to score 2 -1, both benches used subs regularly. With the game being played a fast pace there was no room for mistakes. Vic Wolves found another goal to level the scores 2 -2, Captain Ahmed Muktar and Diego Alberquerque Ayala with their great footskills worked hard to level the scores, with a fantastic goal. The scores being 2 -2 at half time. Both keepers Stingrays – Damian Gesuato & Wolves – Idris were both fantastic in goals pulling of some great saves.
Victoria Wolves Head Coach Marko Barisic could see his team were back in it, some great set pieces got them back in the game. The crowd were ready for the second half to begin. Adelaide Stingrays Head Coach Spiros Simeonakis settled his team and asked his team to get behind the ball not allowing the Vic Wolves any room. He changed the line up playing with a target man which unsettled the Wolves, Konrad taking on last defender with keeper coming out fouled the striker, the referee giving a penalty. Spiros Simeonakis put his hand up to take the penalty, placed the ball on the penalty spot, he blasted the ball in the top left corner giving the keeper no chance also giving his team to lead again at 3 -2. Some great rotations for the Stingrays were starting to find caps, the Wolves looked to be tiring, some great play from the back with great rotations opened the Wolves up again with a great pass from Spiros to the back post Sam Kaviyani who scored to make it 4 -2. With 3 minutes to go Wolves tried everything to penetrate but the Stingrays stayed strong in defence playing man on man. Stingrays scored again to make it 5 -2 by a great finish from Milan Kolundjija putting it through the keepers legs.
