Sydney Magic Premier League Futsal Round 2 Report (NSW)

Round 1 was dubbed the Clash of the Titans but going on results and performances of the past couple of seasons the two leading clubs went head to head in a battle of Goliath vs Goliath with both ourselves and this weeks opponents the Sydney City Eagles the leading two clubs for three of the past five seasons.

The Academy the 12s and 13 girls were requested to be postponed and we accepted the postponement with games to be played in the near future (Monday 20th of October)

u/14 Boys

The u/14 boys was the first game to be played on the day, and our boys led by former Sydney City Eagle Andres Vais got the clubs first 3 points.

Vais was absolutely outstanding against his former club scoring two goals and assisting in a third whilst last seasons u/12 contingent in Jason Madonis and Dylan Caton were also brilliant in setting up the victory. Madonis scored a sensational goal at target with a great turn and shot which left the Eagles keeper stranded. Mark Brackerig in goals also played his apart making some crucial saves.

This squad is a team on the rise but must learn to put the opposition away once the opportunity arises. The Eagles whilst missing key players still had Aaron Messina in goals who was at his usual best whilst Vince Costa and Josh Ibini Isea were also standouts for the Eagles.

Score Magic 5 Eagles 4
Scorers:
Magic: Andres Vais 2, Jason Madonis 2, Nathan Parish 1
Eagles: Josh Ibini Isea 2, Sam Perre 1, Chris Naumoff 1

u/16 Boys

What was mentioned to be one of the best games of the round turned into a lopsided result right from the outset. Unfortunately for our boys we were on the receiving end. Our Magic boys with 7 regulars missing just had no chance against a rampant Eagles side who looked ridiculously good. In this form the Eagles already look like the team to beat but once our boys get back to full strength we will be there abouts come seasons end.

Score Magic 1 Eagles 8
Scorers:
Magic: David Talevski 1
Eagles: Mallia 4, Ibini Isei 3, Castrogiovanni 1

u/16 Girls

Our girls left it late but the performance warranted a much larger winning scoreline. Full credit to the Eagles girls who fought hard and took a very early lead and then doubled their lead and took a 2 nil lead into half time.

Unfortunately for the Eagles their luck ran out with 3 minutes to go when Jenna Kingsley scored the winner. Our Magic girls had an abundance of shots and chances but just couldn’t hit the back of the net thanks to an outstanding performance by the posts and the young Eagles Goal keeper. In the end the pressure told and the deadly strike force of Tash and Jen proved the difference. Sam Bergin also played brilliantly.

Score Magic 3 Eagles 2
Scorers:
Magic: Jenna Kingsley 2, Natasha Lo Giudice 1
Eagles: H. Murray 1, S. Ascone 1

Youth Mens

The Youth Mens game was another great game which saw some great players also miss the fixture from both sides via suspension in Anthony Musumeci and Aaron Cimitile. In any case the game was of high quality and could’ve gone either way.

The Eagles took a commanding 3-0 lead mainly through the brilliance of ex Magician star Kerryn Baccas. Full credit to our boys and led by the brilliance of Albert Crocco and former Eagle Michael Candy our boys fought back relentlessly to get back to 3-2 and could’ve easily taken something from the game such was the seesawing nature of the clash. In the end the Eagles prevailed with the points in a close fought encounter.

Score Magic 2 Eagles 3
Scorers:
Magic: Albert Crocco 1 Michael Candy 1
Eagles: K. Baccas, C. Hanly and own goal

Open Womens

The Womens clash was probably the most lopsided game of the day even though it doesn’t suggest that on the score board. With the game currently under investigation the score line at the time of the abandonment with 13 seconds to go was Magic leading 2-1.

Had it not been for the sensational form of Eagles keeper Erin Hunter the Eagles could’ve been in for a very long day. Youngsters Natasha Lo Giudice and Jenna Kingsley were again outstanding playing in the senior side where they will be called upon to score the goals and again they didn’t let us down.

The Eagles in fact went in front against the run of play and that was an own goal but even then our girls looked in total control just as they did from the outset. With the shooting stat of 14-3 in our favour it showed the type of performance our young side manufactured.

Even more impressive was the performance without “senior” members of our side in 18 year old Rose Scarlato and 18 year old Clare Tyson. Nat Spirovski and Kahlee Doyle stepped up and were awesome as was Sophie Svinos who made her first start in the senior side after her two goal performance last week.

Score Magic 2 Eagles 1 / TBA
Scorers:
Magic: Natasha Lo Giudice 2
Eagles: Own Goal.

Open Mens

The Opens Mens clash was another superb match. The game was a repeat of last seasons Grand Final and with some of the Eagles boys having a point to prove the game was always going to be a fantastic spectacle.

The Eagles side went out and took two commanding 2 goal leads throughout the game but true to the Magic Spirit our boys fought hard and kept coming back and our never say die attitude came to the for, coming back to eventually score themselves a very hard fought 4 all draw.

It was a brilliant game which showcased many futsalroos including Spathis, Nolan, Paine, Zeballos and Waddick and both teams especially those five turned it on by scoring 5 of the games 8 goals. Full credit to both clubs and both teams on an outstanding game.

Score Magic 4 Eagles 4
Scorers:
Magic: Andrew Nolan 2, Marino Musumeci 1 Andres Gomes 1
Eagles: Waddick 2, Baccas 1, C.Zeballos 1
