Nalu, I remember you when you played in the U16s National School’s Championships against my son. Great left foot. To play for another club overseas, and to help Australia qualify for the World Cup you need to register with Football Queensland. The National Selectors were at the Nationals in Canberra selecting the National team for the Asian Futsal Championships 09. They will not be at the Vikings tournament.

To play overseas why does Danny need to be registered with FQ ? Vikings have enough contacts around the world to get a player a trial. At the nationals this week the coach of Veranopolis Futsal from Brazil’s south will be over looking at the tournament. Also Scott Fenn is presently in China playing for Chengdu in the Chinese national league…he didn’t need to be registered with FQ.

To play overseas you need an International Transfer Certificate issued by FFA. On reflection, Danny has been registered in the past having played for FQ and FFA and is over 18. Therefore he will be able to get one as his name is already registered with FFA. Just a word of caution about playing overseas, travel insurance does not cover playing injuries. When my son injured his knee overseas, his club paid for the operation and 6 week rehabilitation, about A$8,500.00 worth. Have the contract translated and checked with the Australian Professional Footballers Association before signing.

You only need an international transfer certificate when you have been a registered player in your original country or the ‘new’ country suspects you may have been registered but have said haven’t. This is to check for players who are suspended or owe money in the first country. Danny’s playing for Vikings is not a reason for being stopped playing overseas.

You can get an insurance policy either for professional and amateur players before you leave.
