NSW Premier League : Quake vs Raiders Match Report

On the most productive day of the season so far, the Forty Winks Campbelltown City Quake Futsal Club came home with 20 from a possible 24 points from its visit to Western Raiders. The tally included 6 wins, 1 draw and just the one loss in a fantastic day for Quake.

12 boys – Quake 4 ( Mitchell Brooker, Justin Ivanovic, Anson Gilligan and Liam McGing) – Raiders 7.

This was the first and only loss suffered by Quake on the day. Quake played against a very skilful Raiders team full of match winners. Raiders got off to a flyer and went to a 3-nil lead. At 5-1 to Raiders, the match was headed for an easy win to Raiders when Quake put on a spirited fight back. We got to 5-4 down but Quake had spent all their energies and when Raiders scored another 2, the match was over. Nonetheless, the boys put up a great fight.

14 boys – Quake 7 (Patrick Antelmi 3, Jake McGing, Bruno Antelmi, Daniel Nelson and Shannon Fielding) – Raiders 3.

The game begun and it looked as though Quake were headed for a comfortable win. Quake had some early misses but at 3-nil looked in control. The smaller but skilful Raiders team begun to lift and when the score went to 3-all Quake had to dig deep to regain their supremacy. In the end, the boys were too strong as they scored 4 unanswered goals and took the game 7-3.

13 Girls – Quake 2 (Lucy Chapman, Annika Chapman) – Raiders 2

Our girls finally earned their first points in the premier league as they drew 2-all with Raiders. In an entertaining game, they fought all the way and deserved the 2 points they got. In a team full of good players, Dana Buttigieg was outstanding in goals as were the Chapman sisters. Well done and hope there are many more point this season.

16 boys – Quake 3 ( Saeed Colley, Tim Beasant , Jake McGing) – Raiders 2

This was probably the most exciting game of the day. They have now put back to back wins and sit just 2 points outside the top four. The team is showing signs of improvement and seem to be enjoying this “winning feeling”. It was a “nervous” end to the game in what some may consider an upset win to Quake.

16 girls – Quake 6 ( Jasmina Kasic 2, Linda Dudek 2, Sharon Walsh, Laura Donelly) – Raiders 1

The scoreline does not reflect the closeness of this contest. It took some fantastic goals to give all 3 points to the Quake girls. Linda, who can’t stop scoring, scored a double as did Jasmina, as they move up to third on the ladder in their quest to defend their title.

Youth Men – Quake 4 (Daniel Fulton 2, Darren Shadlow, David Von Dinklage) – Raiders 3.

This age group always seems to provide us with some outstanding matches and this one was no exception. The double defending Champions and Premiers notched up their fifth win from as many starts but not before they were challenged all the way. Good teams always manage to lift and the 4-3 scoreline, probably did not reflect their superiority during the game.

Women – Quake 4 ( Joanne Coupland, Leesa Thomson, Kristy Davis, Zoeie Redman) – Raiders 2

This team has been playing very well and probably have deserved better results. They played very well against a Raiders outfit depleted by the W-League “revolution”. Without the high working Claire Walsh who was serving a match suspension, it was up to the rest of the team to lift. There was none better than birthday girl Leesa Thomson who, on her 18th birthday, had a fantastic game. Well done team!

Men – Quake 8 ( Tim Simpson 3, Tuan Cao, Simon Keith, Dean Lockhart, OG) – Raiders 4

This was a very convincing win for a team very committed to doing their best. It was the strong start by Quake that set up the win as early goals by Simmo, Boom-boom and Bully set the tone. Once Coach Chuck went to his bench, they lifted the team to another level as they took Quake to the break leading 6-2. Whilst Raiders had a mini-come-back, the damage was done and Quake cruised their way to a share of the competition lead. The highlight was a hat-trick to Tim Simpson.

The Club now travels to Homebush to meet Inner West Allstars, from 2 pm.
