Futsal International Friendly Series (NSW)
International Futsal was back in NSW with the NSW Men’s Lightning side started its preparation for the 2009 Futsal Nationals to be held in Canberra by taking on FC Doctor, a Touring Russian squad.
NSW Lighting started well and applied a lot of pressure to the Russians and NSW took the lead in the opening minutes. The visitors replied on six minutes. The Russian squad passed the ball nicely around the court; however the speed of the NSW side was evident with seven unanswered goals. At half time it was a commanding eight – one lead to NSW Lightning.
The second half was a much closer affair with the Russians again holding the ball well and committing the NSW side which saw NSW in foul trouble early on. NSW made it nine-one in the 32nd minute after some nice passing across mid court. The Russians replied minutes later to make it nine-two. The youthful NSW side took advantage of the tiring Russians with two late goals to make the final score twelve-two to the NSW Lighting side.

Forty Winks Campbelltown City Quake Futsal Club Match Report – Saturday 22nd Nov 2008 (NSW)
QUAKE RIDE COMMODORES TO OVERALL VICTORY
Quake won 5 of their 8 games against a strong Commodores club securing a further 15 points for the Club Championship. Both our defending champions secured comfortable victories but in completely different contrasts.
12 BOYS: QUAKE 1 v 6 COMMODORES
Our 12 boys were outgunned by a classy Commodores outfit. We struggled to control their bigger and stronger team especially Jordan Nadalin and Richard Darko whom scored 5 goals between them. By halftime it was 3-0 to Commodores but Jack Taseski gave us a glimmer of hope scoring soon after the break. This ignited us somewhat but try as we might we could not get a second. Commodores scored a further 3 goals to secure a fairly comfortable victory. Quake best were GK Conor Irwin and pivot Jack Taseski.
Goal scorer: Jack Taseski.
14 BOYS: QUAKE 5 v 4 COMMODORES
This game was a tale of two halves. It seemed the boys thought this would be an easy win as Commodores were lying seventh on the ladder and their first half display lacked their usual polish. We started well scoring early but then dropped intensity and Commodores went to the break leading 3-2. The second half saw Quake up their tempo but at times looked like they were trying too hard. Luckily for us Patrick Antelmi found his scoring touch and put us in the lead 4-3 with a great strike. However Commodores would not lie down and a defensive error saw them equalise. Patrick scored the winner when he received the ball at target turning his man and blasting home. Quake best were target Patrick Antelm, flanker Jake McGing and GK Andrew Haim.
Goal scorers: Patrick Antelmi, 4, Daniel Vellonio, 1.
13 GIRLS: QUAKE 0 v 1 COMMODORES
This was a sterling performance from our youngest girl’s team who deserved at least a draw but couldn’t find the back of the net. In a fairly even contest stand in GK Wikitoria Rogers pulled off some fine saves in the first half to keep the teams level at the break. Midway through the second half a wayward pass was cut out creating a two on one situation for Commodores and they capitalised to take all 3 points. It was a day when we frustrated the defending champions and proved that we can match it with the best. Quake best were GK Wikitoria Rogers and flanker Ruby Mosca. The Chapman twins also led by example and showed their true class.
Goal scorer: Nil.
16 BOYS: QUAKE 5 v 4 COMMODORES
The 16 boy’s have been our biggest improvers since the start of the season and extended their unbeaten run to 4 games with a thrilling victory to catapult them into semi final contention. In the best game of the night the scores fluctuated throughout and it was anyone’s guess which team was going to take the points. Andrew Quigg was Commodores best and he scored a double to give them the lead. Quake however showed why they have been steadily climbing the ladder with their winner take all attitudes and found a fifth goal to secure the points. Quake best were GK Luke Geary and pivot Saeed Colley plus they were ably supported by a core of the 14 boy’s team.
Goal scorers: Patrick Antelmi, Tim Beasant, Joe Campanelli, Josh curtain and Jake Redman.
16 GIRLS: QUAKE 9 v 2 COMMODORES
The first of our defending Champions left it late to secure a comfortable victory. In a very even first half Quake took the lead only to find themselves a goal behind with 2 quick Commodore goals. We equalised before the break and a few missed opportunities looked as though they could prove costly. It took some time for Quake to get into their stride but a couple of goals near the mid point of the second half helped to open the floodgates. Goal scoring machine Linda Dudek finally got her shots on target and towards the end goals just kept coming. Quake best were target Linda Dudek and flanker Laura Donnelly. Special mention must go to stand in GK Lisa Seeney who pulled off some marvellous saves.
Goal scorers: Linda Dudek, 4, Laura Donnelly, 2, Ivana Bojanovic, 1, Jasmina Kasic, 1 and Zoeie Redman, 1.
YOUTH MEN: QUAKE 7 v 0 COMMODORES
The second of our defending Champions cruised throughout and were never headed by a mediocre opposition. Two early goals set up the victory and all players looked comfortable on the ball. Even when GK Matt Licata was sent off for handling outside the D stand in GK James Gilligan had little to do. All in all a comfortable victory that leaves them at the top of the table. Quake best were pivots Daniel Fulton and Mark Symington as well as flanker David Von Dinklage.
Goal scorers: Daniel Fulton, 2, Ediz Alpkaya, 1, Emmanuel Harihiru, 1, Chris Sheerin, 1, Mark Symington, 1 and David Von Dinklage, 1.
WOMEN: QUAKE 3 v 0 COMMODORES
After last weeks poor performance the Quake Women showed more of their capabilities in this victory against a strong Commodores outfit. GK Ashley Brown was kept busy but pulled off some fine saves to frustrate the visitors and allowed the team to forage forward with purpose. A good goal from Bec gave the team the start they were looking for and Quake went to the break 1-0 up. The second half saw Quake score a further 2 goals to secure victory and keep them in the hunt for a semi final spot. All players performed well so they all deserve to be Quake’s best and a big thank you to the core of 16 girls who stepped up to help the team win.
Goal scorers: Linda Dudek, Rebecca Nelson and Sarah Semaan.
MEN: QUAKE 1 v 5 COMMODORES
The Men started well scoring in the first minute and keeping that lead until half time. Unfortunately that was all there was good about this game and some poor defensive errors proved very costly against an increasingly improving Commodores outfit. It is unlike a Men’s Quake team to leak so many goals in a season and defence seems to be the area that requires improvement if they are going to figure in the end of season final series. Quake best were GK Gavin O’Brien and pivot Simon Keith.
Goal scorer: Tim Simpson.

Architectural firm PDT has won the right to design Townsville’s new international indoor sports centre at Murray. The centre for Vikings North Queensland Futsal will be in line with other first rate sport stadium developments that PDT has constructed across Australia & New Zealand.
Vikings members will have access to an exciting conceptual designed arena, with a seating capacity of 2000. The structure will include a state-of-the-art sports facility design as well as sustainable building designs that utilise banks of glass windows and louvres to maximise natural light and ventilation.
Facilities include three international level multi-use playing courts, community rooms, public amenities and disability access, change rooms, gymnasium area, reception area, administration space, kitchen, a caf?, stores, and a first floor mezzanine. The Council has set a 2010 time frame for the completion of the complex and associated car parking.
Hopes are for construction to commence on the $13.6 million complex early next year. The project is being co-funded by the three levels of Government with the Council contributing $2.35 million, the Queensland Government providing $8.2 million and the Federal Government $3.05 million.
Vikings members can look forward to the facility presenting similar charecteristics to the Logan Metro Multi-Purpose Indoor Sport and Recreation Centre and the Queenstown Events Centre.
When completed the facility will be home to not only Vikings North Queensland but also the Townsville Fire WNBL team, the NQ Steel Cats State netball team.
Futsal, will continue to use the Fit for Life Centre until the new Murray facility is completed.

College team are bronzed Aussies (QLD)
After winning the title of North Queensland school Futsal state champions in Townsville earlier in the year, the boys from Holy Spirit College competed in the Australasian titles.
The competition brings together the finest young talent of indoor soccer from across Australasia.
The HSC team began the competition through the rounds, winning two out of their four games beating Mercy College and Marsden State High School.
This placed them third and sent them through to the semi-finals.
The team lost in the semi-final to Harristown State High School from Toowoomba.
Despite the loss, the boys acquitted themselves well against all teams in the competition.
Holy Spirit’s Patrick Vincent was named in the All Star team to tour at a later date.
The boys thanked the Parents and Friends Association at Holy Spirit College for their support of the team and assisting them to fund the cost of the trip to the Gold Coast.

Sutherland vs. Apia preview of NSW Futsal Super League Round 8
The 08 – 09 Football NSW Futsal Super League round 8 match between Sutherland and Apia will be played Saturday 29th November 2008 at Menai Indoor Sports Centre.
Under 12 Boys to kick off 2pm, this game is set to get the day going and it will test our developing team. Should be a great match up and a challenge for both teams.
Under 14 Boys to kick off 2.45pm, this game a must win for our under 14 team if they are to have a chance to finish in the top 5. Apia are not to be under estimated in this age group as anything can happen in Futsal as we all know.
Under 13 Girls to kick off 3.30pm, The Coach of the team Peter Ellis has his troops ready to go for this clash as they are getting more experianced each week. I know that it will be an interesting encounter, a game not to miss as we expect end to end stuff.
Under 16 Boys to kick off 4.15pm, a win in this game for Sutherland will seal a top 5 spot on the run home. This game will be full of surprises I’m sure.
Under 16 Girls to kick off 5pm, this game will allow a chance for our under 16s girls team to consolidate mid week and be ready for the match up of 13th vs. 11th.
Youth Men to kick off 5.45pm, our last couple of games have been a see saw ride of emotion. If we keep our heads we will be in with a chance and pick a win in this game.
All Age Women to kick off 6.30pm, Sutherland in 12th spot over Apia in 13th should be a tight tussel and a game not to be taken for granted. Results are not to far away for our all age women’s team keep trying hard girls.
All Age Mens to kick off 7.15pm, our men’s are sitting 2nd overall and are set to play a 9th placed Apia. This will be a chance for our coaching staff to test the depth of our squad. Its important however not to take Apia lightly. The Apia team have every chance of an upset, the Sutherland men’s team wants to be very careful to not let this one slip and therefore a win will guarantee a top 5 finish for Sutherland.
All members of the general public are invited to attend and entry is free. A BBQ will be on hand to feed the massess on the day thanks to donations from Woolworths Caringbah and a small but committed band of volunteers. SSFA look forward to hosting Apia and again having the opportunity of showcasing Futsal within the Sutherland Shire.
