Quake shake the Raiders Youth and Take the Points (NSW)
The Western Raiders and Campbelltown City Quake put on a great display of youth Futsal on Saturday night at Parklea as Quake took out both the under 16 girls and men’s youth matches.
With Alexandra Huynh away with the under 16 outdoor national side (she played in the 0-17 thrashing of Singapore) the Raiders still boasted a strong line up that included Sydney FC trainee Renee Krstanovska and former under 17 national player Candis Sciberras. However it was the Quake who started the stronger side in the under 16 girls clash. Laura Donnelly saw her third minute shot touched onto the post by Krstanovska. A minute later Zoeie Redman danced down the right and played the ball into the danger area only for Sciberras to be too strong in defence and clear the ball away.
Redman and Donnelly then combined but somehow Steph Haaring was able to defend against both of them and deny both shots from Donnelly. However in the sixth minute Donnelly grabbed the ball and despite traffic around her, squeezed the ball past the opposing keeper and into the back of the net. Linda Dudek then tried to double the lead for Quake but was once more denied by Haaring. Redman wasted a great chance in the 11th minute before Kirsti Bridge took a shot from distance for the Raiders only to see Carla Monforte cover the ball well in the Quake goalmouth.
Just before half time the Raiders nearly snuck in an equaliser with Sciberras unable to get a shot away in the 17th minute and Bridge being denied thanks to a one handed save by Monforte.
Two minutes after the break Cindy Yildiz hand balled in the area and the resultant penalty saw Dudek successfully convert and the Quake double their lead. Redman was soon at her marauding best but was denied by strong defence from 13-year-old starlet Courtney Fitzharris.
In the 25th minute Lisa Seeny saw her shot from distance rebound off the post so hard it actually landed back at her feet, her second effort well saved by the Raider’s keeper. Another chance fell to Dudek from good lead up work by Redman but she had an air swing and the opportunity was missed. The Raiders were giving up too much cheap possession to be able to apply too much pressure but finally on the half hour they did pick up a goal. Bridge played the ball to Sciberras who ran at an angle and then laid the ball past the keeper, nestling it in the back of the net to give the Raiders some hope.
The hope was dashed just three minutes later when a Donnelly shot spun off the keeper and into the path of Jasmina Kasic who touched the ball home on the far post and give her Quake team a 1-3 lead. From that point on it was virtually all Quake and goals to Dudek (36th minute), Sharon Walsh (39th minute) and Kasic (40th minute), saw the score finish 1-6 to the visitors. Quake deserved their win although the Raiders did not deserve the final score line.
In the men’s youth match it was Quake who once more flew off the mark with Raiders goal keeper Justin Faint called into action in the opening 30 seconds of the match. Carlo Manna was strong in the Raiders defence and a strong part of his game was his ability to transition from defence to attack so quickly. Good Quake defence denied their opponents three times in the opening five minutes of the match.
In the 7th minute Quake punished their opponent’s inability to score with a goal of their own. David Von Dinklage laid the ball back to Daniel Fulton who heeled the ball, set himself and then fired the ball into the far corner of the net. Quake was 0-1 up but within three minutes things were tied up once more. Shayne Ardle took the ball from the defence and ran away from goal before he shot back the other way and into the back of the net, catching his opponents off guard.
In the 11th minute Darren Shadlow of Quake was fouled on the edge of the area only to quickly get up and play on, his shot just grazing the post but on the wrong side. In the same minute the match saw the scoring of a third goal. David Von Dinklage stole the ball off the Raiders defenders and smashed the ball home to put Quake back in front.
A minute later the side were further in front after Chris Sheerin flew down the flank and passed the ball to the far side where Daniel Fulton met the ball with a full blooded shot that hit the target. For the remainder of the half the Raiders chased a goal to get back in the match but a combination of poor shot choice and strong defence and keeping saw them denied on each occasion.
The tempo of the match slowed for the opening five minutes of the second half but finally in the 27th minute Ardle scored a goal for the Raiders, putting them back in the match at 2-3. Ardle had seen his opponents back off and that gave him the room to fire a pinpoint shot into the back of the net. Two minutes later he almost hit the equaliser but his effort cannoned off the post.
On the half hour Quake got their two goal lead back with a brilliant display of dribbling the ball from Emmanuel Harihiau saw him beat his opponents and then lay the ball in the path of Darren Shadlow on the left who smashed the ball home. James Kirkland almost scored immediately in reply for Raiders but it was just off target after he had curled it goalwards from over half way. Mark Symington was then denied by Raiders’ custodian Justin Faint who saved the ball magnificently.
With three minutes to go Chris Sheerin conceded a free kick on the edge of the area for shirt pulling and Ardle scored with the free kick to make the score 3-4. It was not the end of the action as Reece Diaz made two goal line clearances to deny the Quake before Oliver Lawton denied Ardle at the other end with the last kick of the game.
Overall these were two tremendous games of Futsal and a great advertisement for the quality of the young players coming through the ranks.

NSW Premier League : Quake vs Raiders Match Report
On the most productive day of the season so far, the Forty Winks Campbelltown City Quake Futsal Club came home with 20 from a possible 24 points from its visit to Western Raiders. The tally included 6 wins, 1 draw and just the one loss in a fantastic day for Quake.
12 boys – Quake 4 ( Mitchell Brooker, Justin Ivanovic, Anson Gilligan and Liam McGing) – Raiders 7.
This was the first and only loss suffered by Quake on the day. Quake played against a very skilful Raiders team full of match winners. Raiders got off to a flyer and went to a 3-nil lead. At 5-1 to Raiders, the match was headed for an easy win to Raiders when Quake put on a spirited fight back. We got to 5-4 down but Quake had spent all their energies and when Raiders scored another 2, the match was over. Nonetheless, the boys put up a great fight.
14 boys – Quake 7 (Patrick Antelmi 3, Jake McGing, Bruno Antelmi, Daniel Nelson and Shannon Fielding) – Raiders 3.
The game begun and it looked as though Quake were headed for a comfortable win. Quake had some early misses but at 3-nil looked in control. The smaller but skilful Raiders team begun to lift and when the score went to 3-all Quake had to dig deep to regain their supremacy. In the end, the boys were too strong as they scored 4 unanswered goals and took the game 7-3.
13 Girls – Quake 2 (Lucy Chapman, Annika Chapman) – Raiders 2
Our girls finally earned their first points in the premier league as they drew 2-all with Raiders. In an entertaining game, they fought all the way and deserved the 2 points they got. In a team full of good players, Dana Buttigieg was outstanding in goals as were the Chapman sisters. Well done and hope there are many more point this season.
16 boys – Quake 3 ( Saeed Colley, Tim Beasant , Jake McGing) – Raiders 2
This was probably the most exciting game of the day. They have now put back to back wins and sit just 2 points outside the top four. The team is showing signs of improvement and seem to be enjoying this “winning feeling”. It was a “nervous” end to the game in what some may consider an upset win to Quake.
16 girls – Quake 6 ( Jasmina Kasic 2, Linda Dudek 2, Sharon Walsh, Laura Donelly) – Raiders 1
The scoreline does not reflect the closeness of this contest. It took some fantastic goals to give all 3 points to the Quake girls. Linda, who can’t stop scoring, scored a double as did Jasmina, as they move up to third on the ladder in their quest to defend their title.
Youth Men – Quake 4 (Daniel Fulton 2, Darren Shadlow, David Von Dinklage) – Raiders 3.
This age group always seems to provide us with some outstanding matches and this one was no exception. The double defending Champions and Premiers notched up their fifth win from as many starts but not before they were challenged all the way. Good teams always manage to lift and the 4-3 scoreline, probably did not reflect their superiority during the game.
Women – Quake 4 ( Joanne Coupland, Leesa Thomson, Kristy Davis, Zoeie Redman) – Raiders 2
This team has been playing very well and probably have deserved better results. They played very well against a Raiders outfit depleted by the W-League “revolution”. Without the high working Claire Walsh who was serving a match suspension, it was up to the rest of the team to lift. There was none better than birthday girl Leesa Thomson who, on her 18th birthday, had a fantastic game. Well done team!
Men – Quake 8 ( Tim Simpson 3, Tuan Cao, Simon Keith, Dean Lockhart, OG) – Raiders 4
This was a very convincing win for a team very committed to doing their best. It was the strong start by Quake that set up the win as early goals by Simmo, Boom-boom and Bully set the tone. Once Coach Chuck went to his bench, they lifted the team to another level as they took Quake to the break leading 6-2. Whilst Raiders had a mini-come-back, the damage was done and Quake cruised their way to a share of the competition lead. The highlight was a hat-trick to Tim Simpson.
The Club now travels to Homebush to meet Inner West Allstars, from 2 pm.

FIFA training for local FUTSAL coaches (Fiji)
Local football coaches will have a chance to enhance and upgrade their FUTSAL knowledge and skills when they attend the FIFA sanctioned FUTSAL coaching course in Suva next week.
The week-long course starts on Monday will also be attended by coaches from other countries in the Oceania region.
Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Bob Kumar said the course will really be beneficial to the coaches as FUTSAL is fast growing and a very popular sport around the globe.
“FUTSAL is one of the most popular sports in the world these days as the shorter code of football is played in almost every country and through the course and the clinic, the coaches will be able to develop the sport further in the region.
“Earlier this season we had the World Cup qualifiers in Fiji which proved out to be a success and the winner, Solomon Islands went on to play in the World Cup where they did well against the power houses of the sport.
“The sport lacks awareness in the region and we also have very few qualified coaches that is why we are abit behind in terms of development FUTSAL in Fiji and the story is similar in the other Island nations also.
“With the training and theoretical knowledge gained from the sport the coaching will be able to overcome the development issues as they will be more equipped and certified by the world governing body” he said.
A FIFA Beach Football clinic was held fortnight ago in Suva which was attended by participants from Fiji, Vanuatu and New Caledonia.

Futsal shooting star aiming for Brazil (NSW)
Brazilian flair and samba magic are the hallmarks of some of the greatest players in world football today.
So it is no wonder Grafton futsal player Joel Clare dreams of living and playing in Brazil, the powerhouse of all things football.
“I’m looking to become a professional futsal player in Brazil,” Joel, 13, said.
“Playing futsal, street soccer … most of the great players come out of Brazil.”
Dreams may become reality if Joel’s meteoric rise through the futsal ranks continues as it has.
It was only a year ago when Joel headed indoors to compete in the fast paced action of futsal.
Fast forward to present day and Joel has raked up the mileage which only multi-million dollar football players are more accustomed too.
“I just went to China with the Australian Under-13 futsal team,” Joel said.
“We won seven of our games out of ten.”
What is more amazing about Joel’s lightning-quick introduction to futsal is his lack of exposure to the indoor game.
“It hasn’t really been put onto to television yet,” Joel said.
“It’s not a big thing yet.”
“I’ve seen highlights of the Sydney teams and Melbourne teams play in grand finals.”
The lack of a futsal identity was even more apparent when Joel’s school, McAuley Catholic College, tried to host a futsal competition.
“Because no boys team turned up … we played in the girls’ competition and we won that,” Joel said.
“There was meant to be Port Macquarie and heaps of teams (in the boys’ competition).”
“We just played in the girls (competition) just as a muck around.”
Alongside China sit trips to Victoria and Queensland as Joel’s young career builds from strength to strength.
Joel will soon represent the Clarence Valley in a New South Wales side competing in Brisbane, but it is his dream of playing in Brazil which dominates his heart.
“I went to Melbourne just before I went to China,” Joel said. “I got selected in the All Star team.”
“They’re thinking about taking us to Brazil next year for the World Cup tour.”

A first for football in Australia proposed for Riverstone (NSW)
In what has been seen as a ground breaking development for football in Australia, Football NSW is proposing to build a new $40 million state-of-the-art sporting complex in Riverstone (located North-West of Sydney) which should be completed by late 2011.
A number of modern facilities will be showcased at the proposed new Riverstone complex, which includes:
- A minimum of 9 purpose built quality football pitches (15 football pitches will be the max quota)
- A boutique stadium (approx 3,000) designed to showcase major Football NSW events
- Indoor swimming pool complex
- Multi-purpose indoor sporting centre consisting of two international sized Futsal courts
- Advanced gymnasium
- Official Football NSW offices
- Licensed club and function centre
- Hotel accommodation, and
- A private Football College (this will be a first private Football College in Australia)
Riverstone West is a release precinct being developed as employment lands by the North West Transport hub (a joint venture between Paclib and Mastergroup).
Aside from the commercial considerations aimed at securing the organisation’s financial future via ongoing revenue streams, Football NSW is creating a facility that is perfect to develop football and its vast and abundant talent in NSW.
A buoyant Football NSW President Jim Forrest stated, “We plan to develop a state of the art, purpose built sporting complex to help develop the game of Football in NSW at both elite and grass roots level.
“All of our investment from our existing Parklea complex will be realised and invested in Riverstone West,” Forrest stated.
Football NSW CEO Michael Quarmby was equally as delighted with the forthcoming venture proposed at Riverstone stating, “We’re excited about the opportunities that this complex will provide all Football NSW members and the general public within the Blacktown City Council region.
“The complex is providing a truly unique facility aimed to service the elite and grass roots members of Football NSW, as well as being an asset to the local community,” Quarmby ended.
