Four Centenary State High School students will play indoor soccer overseas when they represent Australia in South America next year.
William Spencer, Nick Webster, Danny Caldwell and Darren Starmer have been selected for the Vikings Australia international futsal tour to Brazil and Chile.
In April Darren, 15, will compete against schools of excellence and local teams in the Australian under-15 side, while William, Nick and Danny will play in the under-13 squad in July.
The boys were selected after impressing at a schoolboys tournament in Dandenong, Victoria, in September.
Darren and Danny are itching to see how the sport is played overseas, while Nick said the trip would help improve his game.
“I think we will see some professionals and specialists there,” he said. “And we will be able to learn a few things. Brazil is number one in futsal, and they’ve hosted a lot of world cups.”
A goalkeeper, William said he loved futsal for its speed and the challenge saving goals brought. He is desperate to don the green and gold.
“It’s my first time overseas and playing for Australia,” William said. “I’ve wanted to play for Australia since I was a little kid.”
