Futsal Champions League @ ESHS (NSW)
Thursday 11th December 2008 saw the semis and grand final played at Endeavour Sports High School Caringbah.
Semi final 1, Milan vs. 3 out of 3. A tight game, hard fought end to end stuff. Milan had finished the competition undefeated. The most improved team of the competition was 3 out of 3. These guys had developed very well as a team as well individually. The final score was 4-3 Milan (Win)
Semi final 2, Dream team vs. Manchester United. The fancied Dream team had a challenge on their hands when taking on the small in stature but very well drilled & skilful outfit of Man U. The Man U players took very well to the game from the start as the dream team got settled into the match. The game was fair and very competitive all the way to the end. The final score was 1-2 Manchester United (Win)
Grand final, Milan vs. Manchester United. Some expected the final to be Milan vs. Man U, our very own UEFA Futsal Champions League match up. The game was played with high intensity; overall the standard on display was exceptional. End to end excitement with amazingly high class goals from both teams. Thanks also to the Referees Salma Aly & David Myers. The final score was 3-4 Manchester United (Win)
Grand Final Winning Team Manchester United Cameron ‘Chi Chi’ Apostolovski, Matthew Lemich, Mitchell Georgievski, Marko Aleksic, Patrick Stefadouros, James Temelakovski.
The majority of players whom featured in the semis and final were part of SSFA Futsal Coaching Clinic, where they development constructive futsal awareness and fundamental tactics. Further, majority of these players represented the Sutherland Shire in the Football NSW State Futsal Championships back in October 2008 which included our under 9s being crowned NSW State Champions, while our under 10s reached the Quarter Finals at NSW State Championship
The Futsal Association Secretary Ruth Guerreiro presented each player in the competition with an award. Ruth also commented on how each player had improved in their own knowledge and technic as a result of playing Futsal. Ruth also said that she was pleased to see that the competition had developed each player, preparing them for the Football season starting March 2009.
The Sutherland Shire Futsal Association looks forward to the next competition which is proposed to start mid January 2009. For more information please contact Ruth Guerreiro 0405 215 940 or email secretary@shirefutsal.com.au

Under 10s Sutherland more success (NSW)
The Sutherland Shire Futsal Association (SSFA) as part of its overall development strategy for junior Futsal entered it’s under 10s development squad in the leading NSW Metro competition at Indoor Central.
High calibre and outstanding talent is on display week in week out within the Mascot competition.
In the semi final SSFA played a strong outfit Roseland Raptors. SSFA prevailed 8-4 winners and we going to face Man U (aka Golden Boot) whom beat Pagewood 5-4 in a very tight semi final.
The Grand Final was between two teams the have met many times in other tournaments. SSFA started of strong and could have been 5 goals up in first 10 min, but keeper from Man U kept them in the game. Halftime score was 1-1. Second half kicked off with a bang, high emotions from the players, yet exceptional ball and positional play demonstrated.
Midway through second half SSFA were leading 3-1 and looked certain to take out the title. Man U came back with two very quick goals to level it with only 4 minutes to go. A late last minute penalty for SSFA which was converted gave SSFA the lead and the boys kept it that way till the final whistle blew. SSFA CHAMPIONS AGAIN.
SSFA Under 10s Champion winning side: Marko Aleksic, Cameron Apostolovski, Christian Agliozzo, Jarod Dimovski, Mitchell Georgievski, Matthew Lemich Thomas Papa, Sebastian Solysick, James Temelakovski.
Each player representing Sutherland Shire FA in this competition was selected from its own local Futsal competitions at Endeavour Sports High and the Futsal Coaching clinics which were delivered over 20 week period.
The development strategy developed by the Sutherland Shire FA in conjunction with head coach of Junior Futsal Development Jim Apostolovski has proven to be very successful the last two seasons.
Under the direction of Jim Apostolovski our development teams (9s & 10s) have been very successful from Regional to State Level competitions across NSW.
Amazing results from a well drill and gifted team of champions with parents & family to go with it.

Warriors edge out Breakers to remain at the top (NSW)
Dural Warriors 5 Breakers FC 4
Dural’s 16 Boys held off a strong second half come back from 4th placed Breakers FC to maintain their position at the top of the table in a thrilling game that featured a fine first half hat-trick from Dural’s Ryan Johnstone.
Dural got off to a very good start when they took an early lead. Blake Rosier took the ball down the right hand side then fed the ball to Ryan Johnstone whose curling shot looped onto the top of the crossbar but instead of going over it unexpectedly dropped straight down and spun into the net.
After weathering a lot of early Dural pressure the Breakers got back into the game. Gene Varano broke free and his shot forced an excellent save from Jake Moon in goal. From the resulting corner the Breakers scored an unusual goal when an attempted long ball pass out of defence was blocked by Louis Edwards and the force of the deflection carried it spinning wildly into the top right corner of the goal to make it 1-1.
Dural grabbed the lead back when Sam Bingham sped down the right side fed the ball across court to Ryan Johnstone who slotted the ball past the advancing keeper.
The Breakers like to play a fast tempo game but it was Dural who were passing moving the around the court with more assurance and discipline.
Dural scored again before the end of the half to make it 3-1 when they were awarded a free kick right on the edge of the area. The resulting shot cannoned off the wall and the ball eventually fell to Ryan Johnstone who completed his hat trick when he lifted the ball over the advancing keeper.
Just before half time Dural hit the post when Matt Brown cleverly swivelled out of a three man challenge and slammed his shot against the base of the post.
After half time the Breakers looked an improved side and were retaining better possession of the ball which led to immediate positive results.
The Breakers pulled a goal back when they were awarded a free kick outside the area. Jordan Edwards stepped up and drilled the ball past a wall of defenders into the net to make it 3-2.
Soon after the Breakers made it 3-3. A quick counter attack down the right side saw the ball passed across court to Jordan Edwards trekking forward in support who slotted the ball home.
It was game on at 3-3 with competition for the ball fierce. But it was Dural who again took the lead when a pass directly from a free kick went to an unmarked Sam Bingham who slammed his low shot into the net to make it 4-3.
The Breakers hit back when they were awarded a penalty for handball and Panayoti Gotsis stepped up and made no mistake from the spot to make it 4-4.
Dural nearly took the lead when Sam Bingham crashed a shot onto the bar. But shortly after Dural grabbed the decisive goal when the ball was won in a mid-court tackle and spilled to Blake Rosier who turned his marker and smashed his shot into the net to make it 5-4.
The Breakers nearly levelled the game when a certain goal was cleared off the line by the Dural defence.
Dural saw off a gallant second half fight back from the Breakers but did enough to deserve the win in a thrilling exhibition of fast and skilful Futsal from both sides.

Sweeny hat-trick leads the Breakers charge for top spot (NSW)
Dural Warriors 2 Breakers FC 6
A Beth Sweeny hat trick was a highlight in a strong all round team performance from the Breakers 16 Girls to maintain their position near the top of the competition table.
The Breakers seized control of the game very early when Ellen Wheatley lifted the ball over a crowded mid court area to Imogene Gwen on the left hand side who beat the advancing keeper.
Almost immediately after the Breakers doubled their tally when a ball was passed across goal through a crowded penalty area to Ellen Wheatley on the right side who slotted the ball into the net.
The Breakers had quickly settled into a nice pass and move rhythm with players in motion and supporting from the back. But Dural were working hard to stem the flow of goals and held off the Breakers after the initial opening.
Although often pinned back Dural were hitting their opponents on the break and were unlucky not to get a goal back when Michelle Brown sped down the right flank crossed to Adele Granata whose effort crashed against the under side of the bar from close range and away to safety.
Dural’s Paige Van Saarloos charged forward seeing off a couple of challenges before Breakers keeper Mikaela Borger advanced to smother an attempt on goal.
The Dural keeper made a fine save to deny a long range shot from Bella Walker and Sarah Roger for the Breakers hit the post after working a nice move with Ellen Wheatley.
The Breakers grabbed the initiative after half time when a looping ball out of defence went to the unmarked Beth Sweeny who had snuck forward quickly and her clever back header looped over the keeper and into an empty net.
The Breakers superior passing was forcing Dural to defend deep and a poor clearance saw the ball passed straight back to Beth Sweeny who made no mistake from close range to make it 0-4. Shortly after Bella Walker’s shot hit the base of the post.
Dural pulled a goal back when Michelle Brown fired an unstoppable shot in to the net from a free kick.
Dural then gave themselves hope when Michelle Brown brilliantly squeezed herself between two defenders turned and slammed the ball into the net to make it 2-4 much to the delight of the home crowd.
The Breakers held off the Warriors rally and extended their lead when with her back to goal and closely marked Alex Kent turned and twisted between two defenders and cleverly toe poked the ball hard into the top right corner.
After defending stoutly and challenging bravely for every ball Dural were starting to tire and the Breakers wrapped up the game when Beth Sweeny grabbed her hat trick of goals as she received a pass and had plenty of time slot the ball past the keeper to make it 2-6 and maintain the Breakers claim as a solid finals contender.

Magill Open Men Grand Finals (SA)
An invitation to the Open Men Grand Finals Tuesday night 16th of December 2008 at the Magill Sports Centre, Bundey street, Magill
Premier League Grand Final
7.30pm – New comers “Chase The Ace” v 5 time winners “Last Resort”
Super League Grand Final
8.30pm – 3 time Champions “Da Marios” v Last season’s Wednesday night Champions “Krajina FK”
Ray Grima the competition manager says that “Both Grand Finals promise to be of high standard a fitting end to the Magill Open Competitions this year. A good crowd is expected to watch both finals. Chase the Ace has been a threat all season playing with a lot of grit and good skill has brought the Premier league standard this season closer to that of the Super league from the top 4 teams.
The experienced Last Resort need to be cautious and tight in defence as Chase the Ace will be throwing everything at them to be the first team to take the trophy away from them for the first time in 5 seasons.
In the Super league three time winner Da Marios, missing last season’s Grand Final due to injuries and not having sufficient registered players at the end to continue, came back this season starting out with experience and youth in the side and have a lot of fire power up front.
Krajina FK on the other hand can move the ball around, coming Minor Premiers and they too have the experience and goal scorers to make it an exciting and competitive grand Final not to be missed. Can they win the Wednesday and the Tuesday competitions in two seasons?
Referees – Brendon Skinner, John Greco, David Greco, Matthew Graser
A Gold Coin donation entry for all spectators will be asked for to watch these two matches, all proceeds in aide of the 9 State Futsal teams travelling to Canberra for the 30th National Futsal Championships in Canberra in January 2009.

Quake shakes the Eagles in massive Saturday (NSW)
Quake Futsal Report Vs Sydney City Eagles Sat 13 Dec 2008.
The Forty Winks Campbelltown City Quake Futsal Club had a fantastic trip to Bankstown, where they took a huge 17 points from the Eagles, with 5 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses.
12 boys – Quake 0 – SCE 4
This was always going to be a tough assignment, however, the Quake boys put up a terrific display, at times playing some very attractive Futsal. We say it every week; it is the team’s inability to finish off chances that is letting them down. With a little more potency in front of goals, this team could become a force to be reckoned with. Nonetheless, the Eagles are a quality outfit, with such players as Paul Kalsetis and Andre Giolosa leading the way for them, and a quality GK in Blake Tuxford.
14 boys – Quake 6 (Daniel Vellonio, Nathan Clissold, Marko Vukovic (2), Daniel Nelson, Shannon Fielding) – SCE 1.
With Quake missing Pat and Bruno Antelmi plus Nico Colantonio, we thought this was going to be a tough one to get. However, the boys dug deep and produced a super performance to take all 3 points. It was Marko who got the score going for Quake after a pass from Jake McGing. Not to be outdone, SCE equalised and that is how the teams went to the break. It was a superb first 10 minutes of the second half that produced the win, with goals to Shannon, Vellonio, Boomer and Nelson that set up the win. With 3 mins to go, Marko got his second and Quake’s 6th to finish off a terrific win, keeping them in 2nd spot behind the Vipers.
13 girls – Quake 2 ( Kaila Blayney, Laura Murtogh) – SCE 10
This was always going to be a tough one, with the Eagles a quality side. Even though the score was one sided, the game was played in terrific spirit, a credit to both teams. The girls had a great time (both sides), the crowd cheering for goals to both teams. Well done Eagles, better luck next week Quake.
16 boys – Quake 8 ( Tim Beasant 3, Andrew Rose 2, Jake McGing, Guy Goodwin, OG) – SCE 4
This was an upset, as first placed Eagles were probably expecting to win. However, a depleted SCE outfit, coupled with a determined and well structured Quake team, reversed the result towards the purple and orange club. With a hat-trick to Tim Beasant and a double to Andrew Rose amongst the many highlights, the win keeps the Campbelltown team in contention for a play-off spot. Coach Simon Keith was happy with the win but insists consistency is what is required in this league.
16 Girls – Quake 4 ( Madison Strutt 2, Laura Donelly, Linda Dudek) – SCE 1
This team just keeps on improving. This was a very important game for Quake and they showed the importance by their determined start. After a tight first half where the teams were separated by a Laura Donelly goal, the Quake girls came out firing in the second. When Quake Top Scorer Linda Dudek scored Quake’s second, the game picked up a notch, with the Eagle girls lifting. They were rewarded with a goal to Hayley Matheson to cut the deficit to just one. However, Quake was finishing the stronger, with 2 unanswered goals by Madison Strutt to claim a great win.
Youth Men – Quake 5 ( Emmanuel Hairshirt, David Von Dinklage, Mark Symington 2, OG) – SCE 2
This was a danger game for the high flying Quake team. Quake were playing a depleted Eagles side looking to upset the competition front runners. And that they were doing when goals to Jamal Saliba and Chris Hanly put Sydney City 2-0 up. They say good teams make their own luck, but Quake had to rely on an error by the Eagles GK, followed by a deflection, to take them to the break at 2-a- piece. However, the much stronger Quake team consolidated, and led by Symo and DVD, secured a hard-fought 5-2 victory. All credit must go to the young Eagles who took Quake all the way showing courage and skill along the way.
Women – Quake 1( Caitlin Jarvie) – SCE 1
This was a game where the result was justified. I am sure both Coaches are reading this and claiming that THEY had the better of play. After a scoreless first half, a goal to “Pommy” in the 10th minute was cancelled by a penalty goal scored by Effie Rodopoulos in the 15th minute. SCE looked to be finishing the strongest as they hit the post and missed several chances in the last minute, but 2 points each was a fair distribution after 40 minutes.
Men – Quake 7 (Mark Symington, Simon Keith 2, Tuan Cao, Danny Martinez, Tim Simpson, Miles Downie) – SCE 3 (Isaac Wadick 2, Leo Carle )
Ever since their first round encounter, Quake had been thinking of the return match with the Eagles, wanting to avenge their last up defeat. But it all took a bad turn when in the second minute, Leo Carle laid off a ball at target to an approaching Isaac Wadick to put the Eagles up by one. It was not until the 19th minute when Danny Martinez played a ball to Simon Keith who slotted the ball passed the keeper to take the score to 1-all. That is how the teams went to the break, as they received inspiring talks from their respective Coaches.
The second half was a different story, as a tiring Eagles outfit could not cope with the quicker, more structured Quake approach. Mark Symington took Quake to the lead when in the 5th minute of the second half, he made a typical solo run up the middle to score unchallenged. The Quake scoring continued as Miles Downie (8th min), Tim Simpson (10th) and Tuan Cao (12th) took Quake to a 5-1 lead. The Eagles begun to play “5th man” and Quake took further advantage as Heber Carvalho took a great pass from Simon Keith, to beat Leo Carle and lay off to Danny Martinez for an easy tap in. The score went to 7 when Simon Keith scored his second form distance into an unattended Eagles goal. The last 8 minutes were better for the Eagles, scoring 2 late goals to put some respectability in an otherwise powerful Quake performance.
Quake will host Mascot Vipers this Saturday 20th in our last game before the Xmas Break.

Pumas Futsal Club – Champions! (VIC)
Pumas Futsal Club confirmed its status as a powerhouse of the VFFC Futsal League and a rising powerhouse in Victorian Futsal by scooping numerous awards in the VFFC Futsal League Finals at Melton Indoor Sports Stadium on Wednesday night.
Pumas Under 10s comfortably took out the VFFC Under 11 League whilst Pumas Under 12 Yellow finished close runners-up in the VFFC U14 Futsal League on a night where all five Pumas sides made it into their respective semi finals.
An unfortunate situation occurred in the Under 11 League when Pumas Under 10s were forced to meet an undermanned Pumas MIX in the semi finals. Special mention must be given to Pumas Mix’s Gavin Petrolo and Luqman Samuri who, due to the change in playing time, had a lack of teammates on the night and were forced to give up their spot in the Grand Final in what was a true show of teamwork and sacrifice for their club.
In the other semi final Pumas Under 9s unfortunately went down 6-0 to Victory Fives Under 11s. The Under 9s were finally beaten after going on a five game undefeated run playing in a league two years above their age. The side was also missing two key players in the semis in Kobe Timms and Steven Lechowicz but put in a committed second half performance after nerves had got the better of them in a disappointing first half.
In the U14 League semi finals Pumas Blue took on the mighty Green Gully Under 14 side who had so far been undefeated. The young Pumas Blue side made up mostly of Under 11 and Under 12 players managed to keep Green Gully’s score down to 2-0 for just over half the game before finally becoming tired and letting in a few more towards the end. A fantastic effort after which the Pumas Blue can walk off the court with their heads held high.
In the second semi final the Pumas Yellow team took on Victory Fives Under 13s, a side which had already beaten Pumas Yellow in the league convincingly and were getting regular match practice in the Melbourne Futsal League. Despite all these factors, the Pumas Yellow were determined to have a crack at Green Gully in the Final and put on a magnificent show as they thrashed the host side 6-2. A hattrick from Adrian Casabeneand some sublime passing combinations ensured that Pumas dominated the semi final. The attack was greatly increased with the return of Peter Bakajwho arrived at the venue directly after a Summer League training session. The performance was also defensively solid helped by an outstanding performance between the posts by goalkeeper Joey Regali.
In the VFFC Under 11 Grand Final Pumas Under 10s took on Victory Fives Under 11s. Yet another sublime performance from the Pumas capped off an astonishing undefeated season as they played one year above their age. The final was another display of authority and class from the young Pumas side as they thrashed their older hosts 9-1. Adding to the honours was Pumas star Matthew “Messi” Basilonewho took out the competition’s Best and Fairest Player Award for his mind-blowing ability to dribble past players and his playing style’s uncanny resemblance to that of Barcelona and Argentina star Lionel Messi.
Pumas Under 12 Yellow had a tough task ahead of them in the VFFC Under 14 League Grand Final. After overcoming Victory Fives Under 13s, they had to face the undefeated and supremely confident Green Gully Under 14s in the Grand Final. Despite eventually losing the game, the younger, smaller Pumas team gained many admirers by the way they conducted themselves in the match. The first half was quite evenly matched in Possession, Chances to score and on the scoreboard with Green Gully only up 1-0 at the break. It took a very questionable refereeing decision to finally break down the young Pumas side. With the score at an admirable 0-2 the Pumas scored wonderfully from a corner, Dylan Galofaro volleying the ball home to make it 2-1. Or so they thought. The referee disallowed the goal because according to him, the ball was not on the line when the corner was taken. Green Gully quickly counter-attacked and made it 3-0 while some of the Pumas players continued to argue. Dylan Galofarowould eventually get his goal but it wasn’t enough as Pumas eventually went down 5-1 in what was a fantastic game for the neutral.
Every Pumas team can lift their heads up high. Every team got into the semi finals and continued to play attractive Futsal. Pumas Futsal Club’s playing style was characterized by their distinctive ability to keep the ball and play their way out of tight spaces, no doubt a result of the training at the club.
Pumas would like to remind all players to register for the trials in February as 2009 promises to be an exciting year at the club with FFV State Championships in July and Pumas entering the FFV Melbourne Futsal League after the conclusion of the outdoor season (possibly October). Please be reminded that if you do not register for the trials you cannot play for Pumas until 2010 as the squad will not change/accept new players after being selected in February 2009.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND SEE YOU ALL IN 2009!!
