Futsal gain momentum in West (Solomon Islands)
A four day Futsal Workshop Course has ended in Nusa Roviana and Gizo in Western Province this week.
The Futsal Workshop was funded by Community Sector Programme (CSP).
Honiara futsal coaches Peter Seda and Obadiah Wale have conducted the course after communities in those two areas requested for the code of soccer to be introduced to the rural areas.
The four day workshop started in Nusa Roviana on the 1st- 4th December before the workshop was conducted in Gizo from 6th -9th December.
The Futsal Workshop focussed in two main areas of the laws of the game of Futsal and on coaching tactics and skills.
Nusa Roviana is in ward 16 of the Provincial Government and it is the first area to have benefited from such workshop on Futsal.
A total of 30 participants from communities around Nusa Roviana have participated in the four day workshop.
Obadiah Wale one of the conductors of the workshop and also a committed follower of Futsal in the country said from the feedbacks after the workshop that people in the area now know more about Futsal.
“People in the area know have a good idea about Futsal and skills for coaches and referees to run their own league.
“This is also seen as a way to develop coaches and players from the rural areas and in turn help the development of Futsal in the country as a whole.
“Also he added that this chance the attitude of youths in the community”, he said.
According to Mr. Wale preparation a set after the workshop to start a school of excellence in the areas next year for Futsal and hopefully to start their own league.
Mr. Wale said that Kurukuru captain Elliot Ragomo and Lenson Bisili are the Futsal hero of the people there because of the fact the these two players are originated from around the same area.
“The involvement of this two with the Kurukuru in the World Cup has boosted people in the area to come and join the workshop.
“Also during the workshop was a coaching clinic for coaches and referees.
Mr. Wale added that it is good to introduce such Futsal courses to other parts of the Solomon Islands to develop Futsal.
He said that many have shown interest after their successful completion of the four day workshop in Nusa Roviana and Gizo.
This code of soccer is very new to the rural communities and such workshop will help to make people in rural areas more aware of the code of sports for which Solomon Islands is the champion of the Oceania region.

Futsal scuffle goes on (QLD)
A battle over a futsal ban at Moorooka Sports and Community Club continues with Councillor Geraldine Knapp this week not ruling out a reverse of the decision pending community feedback.
“I am not ruling out that might be the outcome, that futsal stays and is managed better,” Cr Knapp said.
Cr Steve Griffiths (Moorooka) said he was concerned that council had decided to ban futsal following a complaint from a resident but had never discussed this with the Moorooka Bowls Club, Futsal Queensland or himself.
He has a requested a copy of a report on the situation from the Lord Mayor.
Club spokesman Don Fowler maintained the organisation had taken action to reduce noise, such as ejecting rowdy players.
Mr Fowler said complaints dropped after the club bought low-frequency whistles, following a meeting with liquor licensing officials.
However, one resident had continued to complain. A resident, who wanted to remain anonymous for fear of retribution, said she spoke on behalf of 40 residents who had endured more than five months of failed attempts to get the club to comply with the hours of play permitted in the lease.
Mr Fowler said the club had been given permission by council, which owns the premises, to play between 5.30-9.30pm on weeknights, but was currently only playing three nights a week.
A council spokesman last week said the site should have been subjected to a development assessment so objections could have been lodged. But he said futsal was only allowed on a trial basis.
City South News has obtained a copy of a letter from council dated August 2007 stating: “The laying of an artificial turf on the subject site does not trigger a development application (DA).”
A 2004 council letter, when futsal started, also says a DA was not needed to convert bowls greens to futsal courts.

Vikings Launch Wavell Heights Courts with North Brisbane Cup (QLD)
What does Wavell Heights Bowls Club & Futsal 5-aside soccer have in common? Nothing…… that is until, Vikings Futsal entered the fold.
Vikings Futsal, Queensland’s largest indoor soccer organisation has made a massive investment into the Bowls club via turning 1 of their 3 out door bowls rinks into 2 synthetic, netted Futsal courts.
The concept is currently up and running at Enoggera and Moorooka and last weekend saw the launch of 2 more courts at the large Ipswich Swifts Bowls & Sporting Club. These purpose built arenas are on a synthetic grass surface, supported by a mixture of sand & rubber compounds.
Futsal in Australia is traditionally played on indoor basketball type surfaces. But in Brazil, where the sport boasts an almost religious type following, any spare space is utilized to field a contest, thus it’s nickname of ’street football’, and this is the thought process behind the innovation.
In the past, Futsal has often been view as a way of maintaining skill and fitness levels in the Soccer off season. But now, with the injection of Vikings Futsal, the game is a stand alone sport in its own right. Offering players the chance to compete all year round.
Vikings South Queensland CEO, Andreas Servatius, is optimistically excited about the launch of the Wavell Heights competition, “The recent weather has prolonged the completion date of the courts, but we are now up & ready to go. The radical idea is working great at Enoggera and we have big hopes for Wavell.”
Vikings will coincide the launch with staging their annual North Brisbane Cup this weekend (13thDecember). Traditionally held at Vikings Enoggera base, The North Brisbane Cup will feature a 12 team Premier League tournament featuring sides from all over Brisbane.
Through out the day, Vikings will be taking competition registrations for both teams as well as individuals across both genders and all ages.
Vikings gives all players unbelievable opportunities to tour all over the Futsal world. Annual interstate tournaments precede many tours overseas. Currently a squad is playing & training in Brazil and next years itinerary will include, Russia, Poland and Bulgaria just to name a few.

Hawke’s Bay/Wellington Junior Futsal Cup (NZ)
HB Futsal won the first annual Hawke’s Bay/Wellington Junior Futsal Cup in an action-packed four team tournament in Wellington last weekend.
The Hawke’s Bay boys, coached by Mark Jones won a pulsating final 6-4 against the Wellington Keep Ups at Hataitai Futsal Park after wins over CCF and Miramar Feds (twice) in a series of group games and semi finals. Earlier, the Keeps Ups had demolished HB 7-3 in the opening game of the day as the Bay boys struggled to come to grips with the unfamiliar surface and surroundings.
A great team effort saw the boys recover well and knock in 37 goals for the day, with goal scoring honours being shared evenly around the team.
Once again, hosts Capital Futsal showed their class with great hospitality, organisation and some tremendous futsal. Saturday’s tournament was the first of many planned between the two regions.

Kay picked for Vikings (QLD)
Playing futsal in Brazil next year could have been just a pipe dream for Rochedale teenager Rochelle Kay, pictured, had she not won an RSL Youth Development Grant.
One of 124 Queensland students to win a grant this year, Rochelle, 16, said she could not believe it when she was notified.
A Springwood State High student, Rochelle plans to use the $5200 grant to pay travel expenses for the Centre of Excellence tour to Brazil in April with the Australian Vikings International Futsal team.
She had been playing futsal for about six years and was introduced to the sport by her father, Gary Kay, who is a coach with Queensland Futsal.
“I hope the trip will allow me to learn more about futsal and help me get better at the game,” she said.
Other winners include Natalie Dudkowski of Tanah Merah, Ashley Harding-Smith of Mt Tamborine, Keziah Oliver of Woodridge and Laura Opalka of Daisy Hill.
Park Ridge State High student Kelsie McCullough intends purchasing a new musical instrument, books and tuition with her grant money while John Paul College student Kirsty Mols will be able to travel to East Africa with the Australian Youth Development Association in 2009 because of the win.
The Youth Development Program is a joint initiative of RSL Queensland and Bond University. Applications for the 2009 program open on Anzac Day, next year. Visit http://www.bond.edu.au

French International Invitational Tournament
Futsal4all received the following email regarding an Invitational Tournament happening in France next year :
On May 30th, 31st and 1st of June 2009, the Erdre Futsal Club (Nantes) is organizing his 3rd INTERNATIONAL FUTSAL TOURNAMENT which is the Futsal Tournament “reference” in France.
This invitational tournament will gather 48 teams instead of 32 for the last edition.
Highly determined to provide an unequalled level of performance in France, the Organizing Committee of the “Christophe Brisset EIFT 2009″ has set up an exceptional logistics plan, with an ongoing objective to minimize the distances between the different strategic sites (accommodations, restaurants, gymnasiums, etc.).
The overall plan is thus concentrated within a radius of 5 kilometers around the accommodation place of the teams.
The competitions will take place on 3 sites, each of them offering two gymnasiums with grandstands (100 up to 4500 for the finals), located around Nantes.
All the delegations will be accommodated on one single site : the beautiful 3* WESTOTEL hotel complex specifically equiped with a swimming pool, saunas, a fitness center, an auditorium and offering a free high speed Internet access in every room as well as a jack socket on televisions.
You can find out all the informations about the Tournament and the “registration form” on : www.fcerdre.com with the english translation here : http://www.fcerdre.com/HTML/tournoi2009/tournoi.php?lang=en
Do as Kiev (Ukrania), Poznan (Poland), Rotterdam (Netherlands), Liege (Belgium), Barcelona (Spain), Lisbon (Portugal), Constantine (Algeria), Tunis (Tunizia) or Dakar (Senegal) : come to the “EIFT Christophe Brisset” and dream with a wonderful Tournament !
See you soon,
