FNSW reminds outdoor clubs that Futsal is important too
Football NSW have sent a letter to all outdoor clubs in Premier League, Super League and Division One requesting that they stop pressuring Futsal players to attend outdoor trials and training whilst there are still existing Futsal Commitments.
It is good to see this being addressed.
We have the contents of the mail sent to those clubs in full below.

Dear <recipient removed>
Players Registered in State Futsal Competitions
Football NSW has been approached by a number of its Futsal Clubs and the Football Standing Committee regarding pressure being applied to registered Futsal players to miss Futsal competition fixtures to attend preseason trial games and training for clubs competing in our Premier League, Super League and State League One Clubs.
The indications we have received tend to suggest the pressure to forgo Futsal competition commitments is most prevalent in the Football NSW Youth League competition age groups.
Futsal in an integral part of our sport. Participation should not be discouraged.
The important principle at the moment is the need to respect that players have existing competition commitments to their Futsal Clubs. Clubs involved in our three senior levels of Football are requested to respect the competition responsibilities some players have to Football NSW Futsal Clubs and competitions.
We ask you to advise your coaching personnel to refrain from requesting players to forgo their competition obligations to Futsal to attend trial matches or training for your club.
Thank you in anticipation of your support and understanding of this request.
Your sincerely
Ian Holmes

What about comps such as the Proctor Cup?
..and some people still want these guys to run futsal in Australia ?
HELLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !
this is a good thing. outdoor clubs are putting pressure on futsal players and nsw are telling them officially to back off. how can you not see this as a positive move for futsal fsala?
just cause vikings dont have a decent comp running anywhere in nsw that any of the top players would play in, doesnt mean outdoor clubs wouldnt do the same thing to vikings players too. outdoor clubs dont have to listen to vikings though.
Great idea and I’m sure the Futsal community appreciates FNSW effort here, I know Id do…. but…. do we seriously think football clubs will care…. after all there are no consequences this could be nothing more than a hollow letter to appease the Futsal community
I’m glad you are just an observer ! This outdoor mentality has been around for decades and FNSW have only just acknowledged it ?
FNSW have “limped in” with a request that they desist , its not ‘officially telling’ them as you state !
This highlights the concerns most futsal people have with the FFA’s CONFLICT OF INTEREST if they try and run both sports !
lets say another group ended up running futsal that wasn’t the FFA. it wont solve this specific problem. in fact, its likely to make it worse.
right now the FNSW have the *power* to kick the ass of the outdoor clubs if they dont comply. you are probably right in that they never will, since they get too much $ from those clubs. but if another group is running futsal, they will have absolutely ZERO clout with the outdoor clubs. why should they listen to another group asking them to free up the futsal players when there are no potential penalties in it for them.
at least this way there is a potential method of getting them to comply. having another group not related to the official bodies running it puts everyone back at square 1.
This problem has been around since moses. It happens ever year. Football are not going to change their attitude to Futsal so why don’t the administraters of Futsal do something about it. Do the homework. Find out when the local football clubs have training and put the comps on when they don’t conflict. Or is this to hard ?
Like it or not, only FFA will ever be recognised officially to be running Futsal in Australia. By officially, I mean by the Australian Government and by FIFA. FIFA has 208 Association menbers, every country in the world. FIFA ’s Mission statement on it’s website states:
Futsal – Mission and Goals
Mission
FIFA has made a commitment to promote and structure the sport of futsal globally, by means of competitions, courses and other proactive measures, and to encourage its members to do the same.
Goals
To launch, integrate and establish futsal in FIFA member associations;
To communicate the Laws of the Game of futsal and provide the required infrastructure and equipment;
To support and promote the setting up of new futsal competitions through the confederations and member associations;
To organise courses and seminars and to publish teaching material for futsal players, coaches, referees and officials;
To provide technical and organisational help with arranging futsal competitions;
To provide technical and organisational help to FIFA member associations;
To standardise the Laws.
Wow…… and here I thought Futsal was a sport. I hope cricket now look at when football have their trail games and put fixtures around it….. sound stupid thats coz it is. Yes there are a high percentage of footballers playing futsal but at they play other sports. I wonder if indoor soccer will change their leagues as well
I agree with you Steve it the problem has been around since moses but if futsal continues to bow to football it will never get anywhere. I don’t see touch changing their programs for league.
Reads well Paul…. and yet they only have a wold cup for men!!! FIFA’s attitude is the same as the FFA appear to be doing something and you can justify your position
good point observer; it wouldn’t matter which flavour of Futsal someone played in the summer, or even cricket or athletics. Some of these Youth league coaches (clubs?) appear to believe that they should have exclusive access to their players to the detriment of all other sporting activities.
Yawn ! Mission statements and goals , Paul ? That’s not a bad achievement for FIFA and FFA over the last 50 years or so ! We’re lucky there both proactive organisations no ?
