Sydney City Eagles vs West City Crusaders (NSW)
In what has been our most successful round all season, Sydney City Eagles collected all 24 points on Saturday against West City Crusaders.
With temperatures inside the stadium reaching the 40’s, Sydney City were definitely on fire.
12 Boys
The day kicked off with the 12 boys, with the academy game cancelled. Our 12 boys looked like they were struggling with the heat and just couldn’t get it together, with the ref calling short breaks every 10 minutes for a quick cool down, the boys eventually won the game by a goal…5-4.

[Click the pics for much bigger versions]
14 Boys
In what i thought was the highlight game of the day, with a large number of players missing due to outdoor commitments, coach Roy Perre called upon two female players, Heidi Makrillos and Alanna Kennedy, They had big shoes to fill with key players missing, Crusaders scored a goal almost immediately, Our players realised they had to get it together fast, In particular the girls both stepping up and played a great game with Heidi securing 4 goals, 10 minutes to go, Coach Roy made changes giving our 12’s keeper Blake a go, in exchange with putting 14’s keeper Aaron on the court, he took a moment to find his feet, when he did, he was rewarded by scoring a goal!!…12-1.
13 Girls
This team has been the combined project of Roy Perre and David Saliba, Roy’s second year and Dave’s first year coaching the young girls, they both have worked well together in forming this team. With our regular keeper Laura away, This was going to be the game we had to fight to collect the points. With Alana Kennedy in goals, She constantly played 5th man giving them opportunity to score when she was outside the box, overall the girls played well !!….5-4.
16 Boys
In a game against Ex Sydney City and Australian Player Erkin Osman coaching their boys, it was not going to be an easy game, as expected it was an exciting game with both teams playing great futsal, Sydney city’s captain Bernie Ibini playing his role well and scoring a couple of fantastic goals, with a change of shifts for the ref’s, these ref’s decided the boys didn’t need an extra drink break, both teams struggled in the heat yet still fought all the way!! … 4-2
16 Girls
In a very evenly matched game, both teams coached by long time futsalers Erkin Osman and Roy Cowie, both teams missing good opportunities, this game was heading towards a scoreless draw, with less than a minute on the clock, Sydney City scored to secure the win….2-1
Youth
With Sydney City’s Captain Jamal having to step down this week due to suspension, The rest of his team mates knew they had to step up to not let their captain down, with 2 key players missing and needing the points to secure spots in the finals, Coach Dave called upon some of his 16 boys to help out, they all had a good game winning the game comfortably!!…10-0
Women
In a game that was expected to go either way, the game was very even all 39 minutes with the game at a draw of 1-1, with less than a minute on the clock, Captain Amanda Bowering (frags) comes off the bench with a determined look on her face, whatever she had planned while sitting on the bench worked for her, she came on to score the winner with seconds to go…!! 2-1
Men
After sitting on 7th spot pretty much all season, the men had a lot to prove after being last year’s minor premiers, with a win the week before, the men knew they had to win this game against the crusaders for any chance in the finals, whatever the coach said before the game seemed to have worked as the men played nice free style futsal, the boys seemed to have found the connection that was missing all season, with the help of some of the youth players, the men won the game finishing of the day on a high…!! 11-1

A Special thanks from Sydney City Eagles to West City Crusaders, although we took all points off them, they remained in good spirits all day.
I’d also like to mention Josie from Sydney City and Warren from Crusaders who after being asked by ref’s, they spent a big part of the day going around ensuring their players were all feeling OK due to the massive heat wave we experienced.

Sydney Magic Video Highlights (NSW) – Updated
Below you will find the highlights videos shown at the 2008 Club Presentation night for Sydney Magic back in March 2008. They are short 3-6 minute highlights from the year for each of the age groups as well as some extras.
A while back we posted the Top 10 Goals for that season for Magic, and so we are pleased to now post the rest of the Videos shown that night.
In particular, we have included the traditional “Thank You” video. At the end of the evening, after all awards are handed out and all of the team related footage is shown, Magic traditionally show their “Thank You” video. Rather than focusing on the on-field action, this footage pays tribute to the players, officials, parents and supporters of the club. It also shows the ‘outtakes’ from the season, and shows how much fun people can have playing futsal and being part of a club.
As with all footage we have put on Vimeo, the shots below are slightly scaled down versions (to fit to this webpage). If you want the full quality version, and they look quite nice, click through to watch it on Vimeo and the look in the bottom right hand corner of the page where you will find a link allowing the original to be downloaded.
Enjoy…

Cairns Predators teams snared nine of the 11 available titles to dominate the inaugural Northern State Regional Futsal Championships at the Bendigo Bank Basketball Centre last weekend.
Teams from Mackay, Townsville, Cassowary Coast, Tablelands and Cairns competed for the NQ title in age divisions ranging from under-10 boys through to open men’s and women’s competition.
The strength of performances from Cairns teams at the championships means players from the host city can expect a strong presence in Northern Stingrays teams to contest next year’s national championships.
Stingrays open men’s and women’s teams will also tour New Zealand in August to contest the Vikings Cup.
Vikings Futsal Association Northern Queensland CEO Tony Cifuentes, who oversees the coaching and development program in Cairns, was delighted with the host city’s success.
“It was good to see all the hard work come off,” he said. “In Cairns, the game is getting stronger every year and we have a number of representative players in the area going to Brazil and China and other countries to play.”
Winning teams and runners-up in each division have been invited to participate in the state championships at Easter.
The Cairns under-12 girls team, which this month captured a national title when representing FNQ, contested the boys under-13 competition but did not reach the semi-finals. However, all was not lost with the team then pitted against the top under-15 girls team from Townsville and smashing their older opponents 7-1 in the final.
The team of Meg Bolton, Kate Messervy, Holly Spence, Madison Cater, Ashleigh Amadio, Bree Blackshaw, Natalie Cullen, Ashlee Robson again stamped their class with the win.
Finals results: Under-10 boys – Cairns d Townsville 7-0; Under-11 boys – Cairns d Townsville 14-2; Under-12 girls – Cairns d Townsville 6-0; Under-12 boys – Cairns d Townsville 18-2; Under-13 boys – Cairns d Townsville 4-3; Under-15 girls – Cairns d Townsville 7-1; Under-15 boys – Cairns d Townsville 13-1; Under-16 boys – Townsville d Cairns 4-3; Youth men – Townsville d Mackay 4-1; Open women – Cairns d Mackay 7-2; Open men – Cairns d Townsville 7-2.

QLD Teams at the FFA Nationals
After some intense debate during 2008 regarding if Football Queensland would send Futsal teams to the FFA nationals, they have come to the party. Seven teams from QLD competed in the 30th FFA National Futsal Championships.
Nothing major was expected from the teams with only a limited number of regions being available for selection. “Forgive me please! But did someone upset the apple cart” was a statement from one parent. Not only did one of the teams make a final but actually came away with a National Title!! The 13 Boys after running third in the pool games defeated ACT Cobras 6-4 in a thrilling encounter to set up a final againstthat from the pool games seemed all one way traffic! The boys changed the structure of their defensive game and tightened up on the disciplined Victorian outfit. The counter attack became vital for punishing mistakes and with only 2 minutes remaining Jayden Liddicoat launched himself over the defense to head home the winner.
It was not only a fantastic win for the team but an opportuinty to let others know throughout the country that FQ will be committed to developing quality teams to compete at nationals.
