QLD Teams at the FFA Nationals
After some intense debate during 2008 regarding if Football Queensland would send Futsal teams to the FFA nationals, they have come to the party. Seven teams from QLD competed in the 30th FFA National Futsal Championships.
Nothing major was expected from the teams with only a limited number of regions being available for selection. “Forgive me please! But did someone upset the apple cart” was a statement from one parent. Not only did one of the teams make a final but actually came away with a National Title!! The 13 Boys after running third in the pool games defeated ACT Cobras 6-4 in a thrilling encounter to set up a final againstthat from the pool games seemed all one way traffic! The boys changed the structure of their defensive game and tightened up on the disciplined Victorian outfit. The counter attack became vital for punishing mistakes and with only 2 minutes remaining Jayden Liddicoat launched himself over the defense to head home the winner.
It was not only a fantastic win for the team but an opportuinty to let others know throughout the country that FQ will be committed to developing quality teams to compete at nationals.

Well done QLD ! As a parent of a Victorian player I can say that we really enjoyed the whole week in Canberra. Although the end result for us was dissapointing, your boys did a great job in the final and deserved the win.
Hopefully next year we will see more competitive QLD teams come to Canberra and not bother with the 2nd rate Vikings comp.

Thanks Victorian Parent! It was a great week and credit must go to Capital Football guys for their organisation. A heap of work goes into organising the events and although you don’t expect everything to be perfect the Canberra event flowed very well during the week. I have to give credit to the Victorian teams, to make 5 finals in the boys age groups they must be doing something special!
A quick word about where Futsal is heading. Hopefully the grassroots of futsal will keep swelling to such a point that it cannot be ignored by the media, governments (local, state and federal) and all those involved in running the game.
FOR ALL THOSE WHO LOVE THE GAME – HOW ARE YOU GIVING BACK TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE SPORT??????

Hi 13Coach, yes we should give credit where it is due and the team at Capital Football did an amazing job as usual. I also thought the referees were exceptional in Canberra and the 2 ref system worked a treat.
Yes the Vic boys did well to get into 5 finals, more work to be done to compete with the likes of Thunder etc… But I suppose that NSW really benefit from having a strong local league structure to support the sport during the year. We have just started the Melbourne Futsal League (MFL), which was a great initiative by the FFV to get a regular high level junior comp started in Melbourne. Hopefully it will grow and we will benefit from more regular competition. A good indication was our super little U11 Boys team who really shone at the Nationals. Certainly the younger age groups coming through have a lot of potential.
Anyway good luck to you and hope to see you and more strong teams from QLD in Canberra in 2010 !

To the teams from Football Victoria and Queensland Football, I believe that next year you will have teams in every category and give NSW and ACT a good solid workout.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for your constructive comments, unlike that Muppet “Hats in the Ring”. Wouldn’t it be great if collectively we could get the standard of Futsal up across the country for the benefit and enjoyment of all involved !
Hopefully there will be some positive outcomes from the FFA review that helps all stakeholders to grow and develop our wonderful sport.

“To the teams from Football Victoria and Queensland Football” yep Futsal is a training game for Football…….
I look foward to your comment in a years time Vic P when nothing has happened…. don’t get me wrong I won’t the FFA to be more proactive but have been around for way to long and heard way to many promises

My Left Foot, What exactly is a “Joke” ?
Also why do you think that futsal is just a training tool for outdoor football ?
Please explain.
