Sydney Benfica FC – 12 Boys, Youth & Men’s Grand Final Bound! (NSW)
It was Valentine’s Day, the weather was perfect and Menai was the venue, where the charges of Futsal Premier League and Futsal Super League, were strutting their stuff.
On court two; Sydney Benfica FC had their 12 Boys, 16 Boys and Men trying to qualify for next week’s grand final at Dural.
12 Boys
The 12 Boys were up against Barcelona FC, who gave Benfica a touch up in the normal rounds. They also met in the major semi final going down 5-4, despite playing the better futsal of the two teams. This only made the boys more determined.
The game started and Benfica raced out of the blocks, holding their shape and possession. Their defense was ruthless and before you knew it, Sydney Benfica raced to a 4 nil lead.
Half time had arrived and Benfica’s coaches warned the boys that Barcelona would come back with three or four goals. During a period of 6 minutes Barcelona with the tactic of throwing long balls clawed back 3 goals. But Benfica stood firm, never conceding a two-goal lead and ran out 6-4 winners, marching into the grand final.
They now meet the South Coast Taipans, who are without doubt, overwhelming favorites. The first encounter between these two teams resulted in a heavy victory over Sydney Benfica.
16 Boys
This was always going to be another cracker and the 3rd confrontation with Botany Bay Pirates. Botany Bay took a two nil lead into half time as they shadow Benfica’s every move. The second half proved just as tight as the gap was narrowed to 2-1. Then controversy occurred when Pirates hand balled within their area as the crowd erupted. Match official Alessandra Moussa signaled a handball only to be over ruled by the evergreen Danny Beerens. This turned the match on it’s head as Botany Bay Pirates capitalized at went ahead 3-1. Benfica went to the last 4 minutes, playing 5th man but to no avail. Botany Bay Pirates ran out deserved winners giving the Rockdale based club their first Grand Finalists in their inaugural year.
Special mention to Alessandra Moussa for an exceptional game, as she continually dueled with the Benfica officials, and handled it with ease. Well done.
Men
This was always going to be an exceptional game and the crowd knew it. The chanting, the drums and horns were in full force and so were Sydney Benfica’s men. They simply dominated from start to end and ran out 8-2 winners. The play was entertaining, the goals sublime and the grand final beckons.
Venue Dural, opponent Dural. The last two games were won by Dural 4-3. Dural finished minor premiers and are no doubt overwhelming favorites. This is surely going to be another classic encounter.

Quake will have 3 teams in Premier League Grand Finals (NSW)
Campbelltown City Quake Futsal Club will have 3 teams in this year’s Premier League Grand Finals. From the 4 teams that made the semi-final series, only the Youth Men were unsuccessful, whilst the 14 Boys, 16 Girls and Open Men will contest the Championship on Saturday at the Dural Sports and Leisure Centre.
14 boys – Quake 5 (Daniel Vellonio (2), Nicolas Colantonio (2), Patrick Antelmi) – Mascot Vipers 4
This was a great game between the numbers 1 & 2 teams in the League. And it was a game worthy of a grand Finals as they both showed their attacking skills. After going to an early 4-1 lead, Quake let their guard down and allowed Vipers back into the match. In the end, Quake emerged winners and will once again play Mascot in the decider as Mascot defeated Sydney City in the preliminary final.
16 Girls – Quake 5 (Laura Donelly (3), Linda Dudek, OG) – Sydney Magic 5 – Pens Quake 3 – Magic 2
What a game this was! Down 2-nil at the break, the Quake girls had an almost perfect second half, forcing the game into extra time. Unable to find the winner, the match was forced into a dramatic penalty shoot-out, won by Quake 3-2. Once again, Quake will play the decider against Sydney Magic who defeated Inner West Allstars in the preliminary final.
Youth Men – Quake 1 (Mark Symington) – Sydney City 2
A disappointing end to a great season by the Premiers who were defeated by a better Eagles outfit. Lacking imagination in attack and unable to break down the better organise defensive structure of the Eagles, resulted in the end of the season for the Quake boys. Slow build ups and lack of penetration meant they were easy pickings for Sydney City who scored a goal in each half. They will now play Allstars in the decider.
Men – Quake 3 (Simon Keith 2, Tim Simpson) – Allstars 2
This was expected to be a fiery encounter and it did not disappoint. With up to 6 Futsalroos on show, the quality was high, both teams looking for that second Grand Final birth to play against the premiers – Sydney Magic. With the game tied at 2-a-piece, it was Simon Keith who broke the deadlock and allowed Quake to hang in for the last 2 minutes and book themselves a spot in the decider.
Next Week’s Grand finals – Saturday 21st February – Dural
• 14 boys – Quake v Vipers – kick off 2 pm
• 16 girls – Quake v Sydney Magic – kick off 5 pm
• Men – Quake v Magic – kick off 8 pm

16 Boys – Dural Warriors
16 Girls – Sydney University

12 boys * Barcelona FC will look to rebound from a heavy defeat on Thursday night but they will not have it all their own way against Sydney Benfica who will be looking for revenge for a narrow one-goal defeat to Barcelonain the first semifinal.
14 boys * With 3 teams equal on points at the top of the table at the end of the H & A season this promises to be a cracker of a game between the Taipans and Sydney Benfica. Thrills and goals galore will be the order of the day.
13 Girls * Only one point separated Parramatta and Sydney University after 13 rounds and this tussle will prove to be close and exciting if the first semifinal is anything to go by where just the one goal separated these two fine teams
16 Boys * Sydney Benfica and Botany Bay fought out a pulsating semifinal a couple of weeks ago and this game promises more of the same. Great Futsal on offer here with many promising players on show.
16 Girls * Northern Tigers will endeavour to continue their Cinderella run but they will face a very determined Breakers outfit itching to earn another crack at the minor premiers in next week’s big one.

The Warriors girls got out of jail with a never-say-die performance last Saturday but they will face a tough encounter against a skilful and determined Bluesberries outfit.

State League Finals Appointments (NSW)
As the Football NSW State Futsal Leagues come to the money matches, it’s not just the teams who are looking to keep their finals campaigns rolling.
NSW Futsal Referee Association’s elite panel referees are also vying for the best possible finish they can achieve. With over eighty referees officiating through out the course of the Premier and Super League seasons, only thirty-two will kit up for a running role for this weekend’s final and next weekend’s Grand Finals, the numbers speak for themselves.
All of the officials appointed during the finals series in both leagues sat in on an intensive two hour training session where the nuances of the finals were covered along with some fine tuning of issues that have cropped up throughout the season.
“We have aimed to keep consistency in place until season’s end” commented a member of the NSWFRA Technical committee which is responsible for elite appointments. “And that’s not just in terms of decision making.”
“We want to make sure that the players know what to expect from the officials as the season enters the final phase. We also want to make sure that the officials who have done the job for us this year are rewarded for their efforts.”
The Football NSW Premier Futsal League will see Darius Turner and Gavin Lee oversee whether Campbelltown City Quake or Inner West Allstars will have what it takes to meet reigning premiers Sydney Magic in the men’s grand final. FIFA referees Ryan Shepheard and Scott Kidson will control the youth fixture between Campbelltown City and Sydney City, where the winners will meet Inner West Allstars next week.
Paul Respicio and Darren Allatt will find out if Botany Bay can continue their elimination run in the Super Futsal League men’s grade as they take on Sydney Benfica. Still undefeated Dural Warriors await the winner. Wayne Ranson and Owen Ferguson take charge of the youth men’s match where, with Sydney Benfica already through, Breakers FC and Dural Warriors will be aiming to take their part in the grand final picture.
