Allstars shoot down Eagles to stay in the hunt for the final (NSW)
Inner West Allstars 4 Sydney City Eagles 2
A brace of goals from Adrian Vizzari and Lachlan Wright kept the Allstars in the hunt for a grand final spot with a fine victory over old foes the Sydney City Eagles in a tense and exciting elimination minor semi final at Menai indoor centre.
The Eagles shaded the possession and the goal attempts in the opening minutes with Isaac Waddick shooting just wide and a Chris Zeballos long range shot tipping the crossbar and skidding over.
The Allstars seized the lead when Jacob Di Mento sped down the left side and his cross was handballed by a covering Eagles defender. Adrian Vizzari stepped up and crashed the penalty shot into the net.
The Eagles got back on level terms when they were awarded a freekick just outside the area. Chris Zeballos smashed the ball through the wall and into the net to level the game at 1-1.
The Eagles keeper was out quickly to brilliantly fling a foot out to deny a Lachlan Wright swivel and shot.
With the scores level the Eagles were looking the hungrier and were forcing the play more.
Keeper James Gullotta saved smartly from an Isaac Waddick shot, Chris Zeballos went on a mazy run only for his shot to be blocked by Gullotta. Leo Carle was injected into the game and his presence in attack was a constant cause for concern featuring a sweet backheel for Waddick to shoot just wide.
But the deadlock could not be broken and both sides went to the break at 1-1
The Allstars opened the second half with Jacob Di Mento going close in the opening minute, but it was the Eagles who grabbed the lead when Leo Carle seized on a loose ball and set off down the left flank at pace and slammed an inch perfect shot into the net from an acute angle for fabulous goal.
There was immediately more urgency and a quickening of pace from the Allstars. The Eagles keeper made a great block to deny Daniel Fogarty and then force the follow up for a corner.
With the game going from end to end it was the Allstars who levelled the game. The Eagles defence was caught momentarily napping when a quickly taken kick-in from the corner went straight to Lachlan Wright who slammed the ball home to make it 2-2.
The game was now being played at a frenetic pace. A Chris Zeballos effort was saved by Alex Riccio in goal, Lachlan Wright hit a long range shot just wide, Alex Riccio made two further smart saves and the Eagles keeper saved a fizzing effort from Shervin Adeli.
The Eagles almost took the lead when a shot from Isaac Waddick was stopped just in time from rolling over the goal line by keeper Alex Riccio. Then Chris Zeballos had a shot from a very acute angle tipped onto the post by Riccio.
With 5 minutes remaining the Allstars got the decisive breakthrough when Lachlan Wright sped down the left flank and hit a marvellous inch perfect shot on the angle past the keeper to make it 3-2.
The Eagles were throwing everything at the Allstars in search of a late equaliser. Chris Zeballos went close and Aaron Cimitile had a last minute shot turned away for a corner.
In the dying seconds the game was put beyond doubt when Adrian Vizzari coolly slotted home a sixth foul penalty to make it 4-2.
The Eagles will bow out but competed hard and had the equal of chances through out the game.
There’s likely to be cheers all round as the Allstars celebrate Adrians and Lachlans birthdays and the prospect of a great game next week against the Quake. The Allstars have a mixture of experience and raw talented youth and will pose a problem or two for Quake next Saturday.

Allstars fall to the Young Crusade (NSW)
Inner West Allstars 1 West City Crusaders 2
The young and enthusiastic West City Crusaders prevailed in the heat against the more experienced Inner West Allstars to progress to the next round of the Womens Premier League Finals.
In the first half the Allstars enjoyed most of the possession and court position. Nicole Laws was anchoring the defence while her Allstar team mates were constantly probing for goal scoring opportunities.
The Crusaders were in a more cautious frame of mind and were content to retract into a defensive formation and hit hard on the break, but with the Allstars marking goal scorer Laura Elliott closely their goal attempts were limited.
The Allstars kept up the pressure all half. West City keeper Melissa Khoury came out smartly to block a Renee Tomkins goal bound shot and Dominique Caridad saw her shot clip the crossbar after a nice one two with Eleanor Rugg.
Tomkins laid on a nice pass for Eleanor Rugg but her shot was well saved by the keeper but neither team could break the deadlock as the two sides went to the break at 0-0.
The Crusaders opened the second half in a more attacking mindset. Tani Rosekelly made a great block to deny Laura Elliott and also save the follow up from Tiana Gauci.
Renee Tomkins long range volley was stopped by Melissa Khoury and her long throw down court saw Elliotts shot smartly saved by Rosekelly.
The Allstars nearly took the lead when Tomkins effort across goal was nearly touched in by Nicole Laws sliding in at the far post.
The Crusaders took the lead in style when Laura Elliott held the ball up well in an advanced position laid the ball back to Kayleigh Koops who smashed an unstoppable shot from near halfway into the top corner of the net.
The Allstars responded immediately when Renee Tomkins shot was brilliantly tipped onto the post by Melissa Khoury but Dominique Caridad was on the spot to sweep the loose ball into the net and level the game at 1-1.
The pace had totally changed from the first half with both sides going from end to end in search of a goal.
Laura Elliott shot just wide and Tani Rosekelly came out smartly to tip away a cross intended for Koops who would have had an easy tap in. Doris Osman also came very close for the Crusaders when her header looped just over the far post and away to safety.
Doris Osman capped off a fine game when she won the ball deep in her own half and ran the ball down court. Riding tackles along the way she rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home for an outstanding goal to make it 2-1 to the Crusaders.
With only minutes left on the clock the Crusaders smaller and nippier players clung on determinedly in the strength sapping heat to deny the Allstars and claim a fine victory to advance to the next phase of the finals series.

Sydney Benfica FC Youth Minor Premiers, Qualify For Grand Final (NSW)
Sydney Benfica FC took on the Northern Beaches youth team, with the winner progressing into the Grand Final. By Benfica’s standards the first half was a little scrappy. A 2-0 lead quickly evaporated and both teams went into half time locked at two all.
Coach, Joseph Pinto demanded more intensity in the second half and that is what he got. Benfica hit two quick fire goals taking a 4-2 lead. With seven minutes to go they extended that lead to 5-2. At this point Northern Beaches tried to rough up Benfica’s squad with Ali Bazzi layed out on his back and blood flowing from his teeth. He went on to finish the match and Sydney Benfica FC won their way through to the Grand Final with a 5-3 scoreline.
They will meet the winner of Northern Beaches and the Dural Warriors, who will clash once again next week.
With temperatures hitting over 40 degrees, Sydney Benfica’s men’s team took on the mighty Dural Warriors in what proved to be a cracker of a game. The majority of Benfica’s men worked in that incredible heat during the day, which proved to be energy sapping, at the very least. The young Husky Akil was forced to leave the centre, to represent Bankstown in an outdoor fixture against Sutherland at Seymour Shaw.
Dural drew first blood taking a 1-0 lead, which had Rob Varela pumping his fists with excitement. Soon Benfica equalised which sent their supporters wild. With Dural pressing the leg wearied Benfica squad, they soon took a 2-1 lead into half time. Shortly after the commencement of the second half, Dural extended their lead to 3-1. Enter, young 17 year old Jason Camara. Jason made numerous dangerous runs and before you knew it Benfica drew level at 3 all. Dural’s coach, was visibly upset.
The game ended in controversy, with Dural awarded a 6th foul spot kick, which they proceeded to take where the apparent infringement occurred. Trying to catch Benfica out, the ball was knocked out to the left and over the sideline. The official then blew the whistle and the kick was retaken from the spot. Dural ran out 4-3 winners in another classic.
Sydney Benfica’s mens will now take on Botany Bay Pirates for a chance to meet Dural in the Grand Final.
