Football returned to its spiritual home at the Fraternity Club last week as the concept of unification in the Illawarra was backed by bricks and mortar.
The Illawarra Football Association moved into new offices overlooking the futsal courts at the Frat and expects the district’s other associations to join them under the same roof.
The associations are to be unified under the Football South Coast banner later this year and the purpose-built facility has offices to host the IFA and men’s amateur bodies, Wollongong Community Football Club, the women’s association and Stingrays as well as the Illawarra juniors, referees, Futsal and A-League bid.
The IFA and juniors left the Fraternity Club three years ago.
“The Frat has provided a first-class facility and they have been tremendous in working with us to make sure our needs are satisfied,” IFA vice-president Milco Stojanoski said.
“It gives us a home we can all utilise and we’ve done extremely well in setting up and designing the place so that everyone’s needs have been accommodated.”
There are six offices, a boardroom, meeting room and six workstations.
Several associations, including WCFC and the juniors, have been operating out of demountable sheds at Lysaghts Oval and are thought to be close to a return.
“All the feedback I’ve had from every association that has come to visit has been very positive,” Mr Stojanoski said.
“All associations and football bodies have access to a new first-class facility.
“When you have corporates and sponsors coming in to meet you, you need to portray a professional image and this new facility allows us to do that.”
Meantime, Albion Park White Eagles president Grad Petrovic has challenged other clubs to nominate a committee team for the IFA’s Wednesday night futsal competition.
A few more teams are needed to make a full draw so club officials are invited to form teams of committee members, sponsors or social groups.
Games cost $44 per team and are 20 minutes each way and are five a side. Ideally, teams would have eight players. Insurance for the season is $33 or $27.50 for Fraternity Club members.
