New Forum – Ask the Ref

A new forum on Futsal4all allows you to directly ask a top ref any queries on the laws of the game

We are pleased to announce a new Forum on Futsal4all where you can have a top level Referee answer your futsal related queries on the laws of the game and how they should be interpreted.

Scott Kidson, one of Australia’s FIFA Futsal referees has kindly offered his time and expertise to field and answer your questions.

Registration on the forum is free so we encourage you to make the most of being able to draw on his extensive knowledge of the game and its laws.

Please note the following :

If you want an answer about what a particular Laws of the Game is, want to know what would happen in a certain situation, or would like to know the current interpretation on any given Law, this IS the place to ask those questions. This is NOT a place to come if you want to question a decision in your match (in fact we will remove team, player or referee names posted here). This is also NOT the place to come to bag a referee’s performance (those posts will just be straight deleted). The aim is to increase awareness of the Laws and foster understanding between all futsal participants. SO fire away.

Logo - Sydney Magic 2009

Sunday the 14th of March was the chosen date at the lush new setting of Wests Ashfields Leagues club that Sydney Magic PCYC had their 6th annual Presentation evening. In what was a spectacular evening with over 150 people in attendance, the night was a massive success with a number of awards presented including Sydney Magic Team of the Year, C.E.O Awards, Club Person of the Year, Goal Keeper of the Year and the prestigious Johnny Warren Player of the Year as well as the introduction of a part paid scholarship to Brazil for 8 weeks for one lucky player.

The evening opened with speeches from Club Officials- Chris Gardiner, Carmine Bortone, Jamie Amendolia and Club Captains Peter Spathis and Natalie Spirovski. The first lot of presentations to open proceedings were to the 50 odd players that represented NSW at the recent 2009 National Championships that were held in Canberra. Those awards were presented by Mr Matt Gillett of PCYC

Our academy side once their 5 minutes of season highlights was shown was the first team to be called upon stage and introduced the boys got a great reception due to the outstanding play they produced throughout the season. Manager Bill Dimopolous was thankful to the club on a great first year experience and stated the boys couldn’t wait for next season.

Our Fantastic under 12s side accompanied by coach Roberto Maiorana were next to be introduced after seeing their highlights whom were then followed by our under 14 squad along with Coach Billy Dimitropolous. Both those sides were presented by Chris Gardiner.

Committee member Kristin Maloney then awaited Mick Bergin and his u/13 girls after seeing their season highlights before awarding them their season trophies. Coach Mick Bergin was as fascinating as always making sure that all the club knew that the u/13 girls only picked up 7 points all season in his speech, he then reminded everyone in attendance that the Club won the Club Championship by 6 points. Was fascinating stuff.

The u/16 boys side had a special side to their presentation after watching their season highlights and coach Carmine doing his best Toyota “What a feeling” impersonation, Carmine had a special framed Magic signed team jersey which he presented to special young Magician Terry Antonis who will be embarking on a 4 year stay in England where he just signed for Premier League club Everton. Both coaches Dylan and Carmine had a few words to say and passed on their gratitude to a great squad most of which have been at the club for 4 years and that a Grand final win was the icing on the cake for a treble winning season.

With half the club presented their trophies our brilliant entertainment for the evening started in the form of International Entertainer Marty Rhone. Marty kept everyone entertained with his terrific 45 minute set especially Jewels and the 16 girls who turned into Marty’s back up dancers when they made it on stage. Nina’s virtuoso dancing performance when she, hmmm not sure what the exact word are to what she performed was just as entertaining as Martys performance itself.

With Martys performance not over special guest and Club Patron Mr Les Murray was called upon stage to say a few words and he made sure how important he thought Futsal was to everyones.

The u/16 girls were the next team that were awarded their trophies with club patron Mr les Murray presenting.

The Youth team were next and special guest Mr Erkin Osman was on hand to present those.

The 2 senior sides were next to be presented, who then made a great gesture and with some of their payments from throughout the season they gave to volunteer and club official Mr Carmine Bortone for the time and hours he put into the club.

Once the team awards were over the business end of the presentation night commenced and the first club award was the introduction of the PCYC Scholarship Award. The club picks one truely outstanding player and sends them on a part paid scholarship to Brazil to the value of almost $7,000.00. The player selected for the first trip was u/16 boys starlet George Khoury. George will travel to Belo Horizonte in Brazil and stay and play futsal for 8 weeks with leading Brazilian Futsal club Minas. We wish Georgey all the best.

The next award presented was the C.E.O Awards. The CEO awards are presented to 2 players one male and one female player, to value of $500.00. The are for players who the club deem to be the future of the club. That $500.00 goes towards both paying the club registration and towards paying for their NSW registration for the National Championships in Canberra. Last years recipients were Samantha Bergin and Jake Mason. This years awards winners were:

Marie Svinos and Mark Rizovski

The next award was the Club person of the Year, last years recipient Carmine Bortone was on hand to award it to this years winner:

Mr James Brackenrig

James received his well earned award for the unbelievable amount of time he and his family spent filming all the club games for the entire season as well as putting together the fantastic season highlights that were on show throughout the presentation evening. James’ son Mark and wife came upon stage to receive the award on James behalf.

The next piece of footage was the goal of the Year where we picked the Top goals of the season with it being a very close call between the top 3 choices of David Han vs Inner West, Alex Doyle vs Western Raiders and Servet Uzunlar vs West City Crusaders but the eventual winner was Servet Uzunlar and her spectacular one touch double 1-2 with Natalie Spirovski against the West City Crusaders in round 13 that got the gong.

Click here to see the Top 10 Season Goals

The clubs next award is the always popular Sydney Magic Team of the year. We were thankful to have C.E.O of the Johnny Warren Football Foundation Mr Francis Awaritefe to present the final 3 prestigious awards. This years team was:

Peter Spaths
Natalie Spirovski
Juliana Dundovic
Mark Rizovski
Daniel Paino
Helen Petinos
Marino Musumeci
Roberto Maiorana
Alberto Crocco
Natasha Lo Giudice
Samantha Bergin
Andres Gomes
Yvonne Illioglou
George Khoury
Anthony Poniris
John Dimitrakis

The next award was the Goal Keeper of the year. Last years receipt Roberto Maiorana was again one of the nominees as were John Dimitrakis, Marcello Bortone, Peter Spathis, Dominic Breckenbridge and Mark Brackenrig. But this years winner presented by Roberto was:

Club Captain Peter Spathis

This award capped of a remarkable season for Spath who cemented himself as Australias number 1 goalkeeper, was appointed the NSW Thunder Captain and will now lead that side to the Asian Champions league in Iran later in the year, as well as Captaining our Magic side to back to back Championships and capping that off by his heroics in the Grand final penalty shootout where he saved 4 out the 5 penalties for a remarkable win.

Click here to see the Mens Penalty Shootout

And last but definitely not least the Johnny Warren Sydney Magic PCYC Player of the Year award. Out of the Team of the Year 6 players were nominated for the top award. Open Womens Natalie Spirovski, Youth Mens Albert Crocco, u/16Girls Natasha Lo Giudice,Open Mens Marino Musumeci, u/16 Boys George Khoury and u/12 Boys Mark Rizovski.

In one of the closest finishes ever the 2008/09 Player of the Year was awarded to:

Natasha Lo Giudice

Tash who played a major part in both the u/16s and Open Womens team had a fantastic season and scored over 35 goals was a well deserved winner. After being a nominee for the award for the past 2 years, 3rd time was definitely lucky for Natasha.

The great night then ended with the infamous season bloopers and the Mens team heroic penalty shootout win.

Overall was another brilliant night. A very big thankyou to Wests Ashfields on a brilliant venue, Dolcissimo for the catering of the great food. PCYC representatives Mr Chris Gardiner and Mr Matt Gillett and special guests Mr Les Murray, Mr Francis Awaritefe and Mr Erkin Osman. The clubs committee on their tireless efforts Mr Carmine Bortone, Mr Ross Maiorana, Mrs Kristin Maloney and Mr Carlo Lo Giudice. Mr James Brackenrig for the great footage he created and then produced on the night and of course all the players, coaches, parents and friends for the tremendous support that each and everyone of you continue to show the club by attending these special nights. It’s after nights like these that all of us that put the effort in to keep this club going are most proud to continue doing it.

Have a great offseason and hope to see you all sooner rather than later. Click for Photos Album of Evening

Logo - Flames FutsalWe have now started our skills clinic on Friday nights. The junior program is designed to provide all children with the means of developing superior Futsal skills in an enjoyable and encouraging environment.

Our philosophy is to keep class sizes to a maximum of 12 students to ensure that each child will receive ample attention from the coach, both one on one and within the group environment.

We will guarantee that your child will receive hundreds of touches of the ball at each session and will always be engaged. For more information please visit here [also shown below]

Futsal Junior Skills Program

Overview

The junior program is designed to provide all children with the means of developing superior Futsal skills in an enjoyable and encouraging environment.

Our philosophy is to keep class sizes to a maximum of 12 students to ensure that each child will receive ample attention from the coach, both one on one and within the group environment.

We will guarantee that your child will receive hundreds of touches of the ball at each session and will always be engaged.

Session times

Beginners (Friday 5:30 – 6:30pm)
Our class for beginners runs for one hour every Friday evening from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. Children who have had little/no experience in either Futsal or outdoor Football (soccer) would typically be suited to the beginner’s class.

Intermediate (Friday 6:30 – 7:30pm)
Our intermediate/advanced class is also staged on a Friday evening, from 6.30 – 7.30pm. Children who would be suited to this class are typically experienced in either/both Futsal and the outdoor game.

The junior program will normally run parallel with Primary School terms and will span over a nine week period.

Costs and “Try it for Free”

$95 per student for a 9 week term which includes a standard level of player insurance.

Come and try it for FREE
Parents are welcome to bring their child to a session on a first lesson free – “come and try” basis. Parents must book a free session prior by contacting the Flames Futsal coaching staff on 0412 199 639.

Program structure

First and foremost, each session must be fun and engaging for each child. Typically, each session will start with an emphasis on a particular core skill. These include fundamentals like pass, receive, movement etc. Over time, the children will also work on more advanced fundamentals including Team offensive/defensive, shape, set pieces, one on one skills etc.

The emphasised skill will be worked through a series of drills over the first 20-30 minutes with the balance of the session dedicated to match play where the emphasised skill is worked in greater detail.

In addition, external teams of a similar standard will be invited to provide friendly matches which will be played within the normal session timeslot.

Further development and pathway

Our more talented children will be invited to play for the Knox Hornets in the “Supa Liga” which is run by Vic Futsal. This tournament is played at the Oakleigh Recreation Centre on Saturday afternoons/evenings from late October to December and was televised every Wednesday on Channel 31.

Supa Liga features some of the best Futsal players from all regions of Victoria and is used as a means of selection for Victorian state representation.

Soccer goes outside in (VIC)

Flames Futsal gears up for this year’s Supa Liga tournament in Oakleigh from October to December

Logo - Flames FutsalA small indoor soccer centre is offering aspiring locals the chance to represent their country.

Endeavour Hills-based centre Flames Futsal just began its fourth season of competition as it gears up for this year’s Supa Liga tournament in Oakleigh from October to December. Futsal is derived from the Portuguese ‘futebol de salão’ and the Spanish ‘fútbol sala/de salón’, which can be translated as ‘indoor football’. Co-managers John Myszka and Ian Vincent established Flames Futsal two years ago and there are men’s and women’s competitions at the venue.

Myszka also runs a junior program that encourages fun and participation and offers the opportunity for players to take their soccer further.

The centre’s best senior and junior players form the Knox Hornets, who take on seven other teams from around the state in the annual Supa Liga tournament.

The Hornets represent the southern metropolitan region.

“If you’re good enough you’ll get picked for the representative side and do your training at Endeavour Hills and play at Oakleigh and you may get to play interstate and possibly overseas,” Myszka said.

“The tournament is from October until December and will be televised on Channel 31 again this year.

“We are going to have under-10s, 12s, women’s and men’s teams and possibly a 14s side.”

Selectors will pick a Victorian squad from the Supa Liga to compete in an interstate carnival in January.

Myszka said he and Vincent were trying to change the perception of Futsal.

“We’re treating Futsal not as a pastime, but as a proper sport where you can have a calendar of events through the year that will fill you up as much as outdoor soccer would,” Myszka said.

“You have your training and meaningful games and can go on overseas tours and stuff like that.

“That’s what we’re doing and bearing in mind there is a national team to play for as well in the sport.”

Visit Flames Futsal’s website at www.flamesfutsal.com.au for further information.
