Futsal Winter State League Round 6 Review (NSW)
Reports and Results from Round 6 of the NSW Winter State League
The Futsal Winter State League moved into round 6 on a drama filled night at the Sports Halls, Sydney Olympic Park.
In the women’s action match of the round saw first placed V.I.M take on third placed Just 4 Kicks. The first half was a scrappy affair with both sides not really getting into to any rhythm and the game just went from end to end. Just 4 Kick took the lead mid way through the first half when C. Cannuli right foot shot from outside the “D” was too strong for T. Rosekelly in the V.I.M goal. V.I.M lifted and started to pass the ball nicely around the court and went close to an equalizer R. Tomkins effort just flew over the top of the bar. At half time Just 4 Kicks had the slight advantage going into the break one-nil up.
The second half V.I.M started the strong and N. Spirovski was always dangerous on the ball and provided a nice ball to K. Doyle who found the back of the net to equalize. Both teams had a number of chances to seal victory but neither could take advantage. With five minutes to go V.I.M found the winner when R.Tomkins found its way past A.Oliva in the Just 4 Kicks goal. With the victory V.I.M remain on top of the table while Just 4 Kicks have dropped to fifth place.

The warriors got off to the best possible start with a cheeky back heel by Engelo Rumora found its way into the bottom left corner of the net. Quake was also dangerous through David Von Dinklage and he equalized with a cracking effort after Emmanuel Harihiru through ball found Von Dinklage on the right hand side of the “D” and his first time effort from the acute angle gave Ian Pemberton no chance as it cannoned into the roof of the net. Dural took the lead not long after as Ben Lawson capitalised on some poor goal keeping by James Gilligan in the Quake goal allowed Lawson to tap into an empty net. At half time the Warriors were leading two-one.

NSW Winter State League : Quake Youth and Dural Warriors do battle
The send half was a battle between Von Dinklage and Lawson. Von Dinklage again equalized for Quake with a nice team effort which was well finished off by Von Dinlage. Quake then took the lead with a cracking effort by Von Dinklage as he chipped Pemberton from just outside his own “D”, the ball travel three quarters of the court into the top left hand corner to give Von Dinklage a well deserved Hat-trick. It was then Lawson’s turn and he delivered with two goals in the space of a minute to put the Warriors back into the lead. The drama continued when Gilligan now playing 5th man found his way inside the Warriors half and on the end of a pass from Chris Sheerin and Gilligan’s first time shot to the far post found its way through the traffic to equalize for the Quake side. Referees Thanked For Tournament (NSW)
The organiser of the Marrickville Schools and All Nations futsal tournaments held recently express their thanks to the Referees involved
The NSWFRA has come in from more praise, this time from the organiser of the Marrickville Schools and All Nations futsal tournaments held last week. Junior aged players participated on Wednesday in the schools event with Sunday encompassing more junior competition as well as a senior section.
Event co-ordinator Ms Grace Clark thanked the referees who officiated at the tournament. “They were extremely helpful on both days; rolling with the chaotic nature of the tournaments and always being flexible to changes. They worked well with the players to allow for good, community futsal to be played by players of varying abilities.”
Referee participation ranged from Select panel referees such as Sam McIntosh, Owen Ferguson and Roger Lee, through to junior referees including Niki Loe, Menouar Belkadi and James Brunacci. Elio Valente, Ross Fazzalaro, and Feddy El Alami were also appointed by the TSC to balance out the officiating team over the two days.
Sam McIntosh, who co-ordinated the referees at the two events, was especially pleased with the attitude of the juniors. “James looked like he had done quite a bit of refereeing before, but it was Niki’s first futsal tournament and Meny was also quite inexperienced coming in to it” he said. “They were all brimming with enthusiasm though.”
After gaining some match time, the younger referees were introduced to the two referee system, working with some of their more experienced counterparts. “Over the course of the day, you could see how much they improved and got the hang of it” McIntosh said. “All three were keen to do more refereeing in the future. A couple are already asking about Premier and Super Futsal League opportunities in the coming season.”
Special Events are allowing more and more members the chance to meet and work with their peers, giving them the opportunity to learn from more experienced referees and improve their skills.
OFC announce Futsal partnership with Mai TV
Mai TV to provide comprehensive televised coverage of the OFC Futsal Championship
Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) is excited to announce its partnership with Fijian broadcaster Mai TV to provide comprehensive televised coverage of the OFC Futsal Championship Fiji 2009 to be held in Suva between 6-10 July.
The agreement will see Mai TV provide broadcast coverage of all six round-robin matches as well as the ‘crunch day’ play-off matches including the championship final.
OFC General Secretary Tai Nicholas says the new partnership shows OFC’s ongoing commitment to providing greater exposure of football throughout the Pacific region.
“The appetite for televised football – including alternative forms of the game such as Futsal and beach soccer – continues to grow within Oceania and OFC is committed to delivering extensive coverage for the fans,” said Nicholas.
“We are delighted that Mai TV are as excited about football as we are and that they are committed to filming every minute of the OFC Futsal Championship.”
This year’s tournament will see defending champions Solomon Islands battle it out with hosts Fiji, New Caledonia and Vanuatu to see who is crowned Oceania’s number one Futsal nation.
Delayed broadcasts of the each day’s action will be shown free to air each evening on Mai TV during Fijian prime time.
A comprehensive one hour highlights package of the tournament’s most exhilarating action will be made available to broadcasters in each of the participating nations as well as New Zealand and Australia after the championships completion.
Mai TV will also make this highlights package available online at www.tv.com.fj.
For Mai TV’s CEO Richard Broadbridge, winning the rights to broadcast the OFC Futsal Championship is another significant progression for his young broadcast company.
“We’re extremely happy to be OFC’s partner in this event. We see football as major content for us and our Pacific neighbours, and will be showing more football in the region over the next three years,” Broadbridge said.
Broadbridge and Mai TV are also readying to further grow their commitment to spreading the football gospel with local content aimed specifically at football to be seen on Fijian screens in the near future.

The FFA have published the National Curriculum and Futsal is specifically mentioned

Kurukuru set sights on Oceania title
Solomon Islands step up their preparation for the upcoming OFC Championships
With two weeks to go until the OFC Futsal Championship Fiji 2009, defending champions Solomon Islands have stepped up preparations in their bid to secure back-to-back victories at the prestigious event.
The round-robin competition involving Fiji, New Caledonia, the Kurukuru from Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, is set to take place from 6-10 July at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, Fiji.
Solomon Islands will go into the championship as hot favourites with 11 of their 12 squad members being part of the 2008 winning team that went on to represent Oceania at the FIFA Futsal World Cup in Brazil last year.
Recently appointed head coach Dickson Kadau says his players have undergone intensive training in recent weeks.
“We train six days a week and the focus areas in our sessions are mainly on speed, strength and the team’s defense,” said Kadau.
The Kurukuru side has also received a huge boost from Scott Gilligan, ‘Win in Oceania’ Project Manager for Futsal, who has spent time in the Solomon Islands this month working closely with the team.
“The boys have improved a lot from where they were during the FIFA Futsal World Cup in Brazil,” said the former Australian futsal international who has also coached the Australia national men’s side.
“When I came to Honiara early this year for a futsal coaching course under the ‘Win in Oceania’ development programme, I left a training plan with them and what I’ve seen is incredible progress.”
The OFC Futsal Championship Fiji 2009 marks the sixth time Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) has staged the event. Since its inception in 1992, the championships have been held every four years as part of the qualification process for the FIFA Futsal World Cup tournaments.
Fiji 2009 marks the first year of the new annual format for the championship which shows OFC’s commitment to developing futsal by providing regular competition for Oceania’s top teams.
The popularity of futsal – an indoor form of football played with five players per side and a weighted ball – continues to grow throughout the region as a number of OFC’s eleven member associations start to develop domestic competitions to support the game.

LEGEA V-League Round 14 Review (VIC)
Round 14 of the LEGEA Men’s V-League saw 12 teams vying for points
Round 14 of the LEGEA Men’s V-League took place on Wednesday night as 12 teams fought for maximum points.

The night began with cellar dwellers McLeod FC (12th) battling to get off the bottom in search of only their second win for the season. They took on a resilient Pascoe Vale FC (8th) side that beat the seemingly invincible Carlton only a week ago.
McLeod started brightly and took the lead as it had in its previous few games but again failed to capitalize on numerous chances. They will need to address this urgently as they head into relegation play-off territory. Pascoe Vale eventually ran out winners 6-4 with young recruit James Danos impressive. The win leaves Pascoe Vale 6 points from the top of the league but only 1 point from safety.
In the nights second game established team FC Melbourne (9th) took on FC Prahran (6th). Melbourne raced out to a 2 goal lead without regular goalkeeper Marcus who was at the MCG watching Australia beat Japan. Prahran Superstar Maxim Avram then called a priceless time out with 3 minutes remaining in the half; Prahran scored three before the interval and followed on in the second half scoring another four unanswered goals leading 7-2 comfortably early in the second half.
FC Melbourne fought back hard in there typical barnstorming style but it wasn’t enough, 8-5 the final score. After a bad run of injuries, results and suspensions, Prahran are back in the mix 6th 3pts off top while FC Melbourne is in unfamiliar relegation territory in 9th.
The nights 3rd game saw Melbourne Uni FC (11th) take on Metropolitan FC (7th). Mid year exams left Melbourne Uni depleted of 4 regular players whilst Metro have had recent problems of there own having to field there coach. Both teams started brightly but Metropolitan’s silky skills saw them through in the end 8-3. Melbourne Uni will surely be planning for relegation playoffs whilst Metro may be the dark horse of this season’s competition.
The hotly anticipated game of the round saw Fitzroy FC (1st) take on FC Essendon(4th) Fitzroy went into the game high on confidence but low on playing stocks with premier league player Ivesic, football superstar Michael Dixon and V-League top scorer James Blackburn absent. Essendon were bitter after losing to Albert Park the week before and goal scoring talisman Alexander Stevanovic misfiring.
The game was an exciting end to end encounter with fouls, backchat and passion as well as some tantalizing Futsal. Essendon called on all their experience to keep Fitzroy at bay and then had some chances of there own. 5-5 in the end was a fair result that makes it very interesting at the top end of the table for both sides.
Scintillating FC Carlton (2nd) took on a wounded Ashburton (5th) after there capitulation against North Melbourne the week before and it didn’t take long before Ashburton took the lead. The green machine (Ashburton) had raced to a two goal lead as Carlton looked tired and sluggish. Carlton’s boy wonder Hooman Shekari came on off the bench and grabbed a few goals but by then Ashburton already had the game wrapped up, 7-4 the final score.
Finally reigning champions North Melbourne FC (3rd) took on a striving Albert Park (10th). North had hit a rich vein of form winning three on the trot, including a tight affair against a stubborn defensive Pascoe Vale, the wise Albert Park seemed to follow suit sitting deep and trying to hit North Melbourne on the counter. North went 2-0 up early but found it difficult to break Albert Park down any further. With a minute to go before half time Albert Park forced a goal out of nothing.
The second half was a tense affair until North Melbourne got the third goal they desperately needed. A nervy finish for the champions, the game ended 3-1, Albert Park perhaps goal-difference conscience. Regardless, round 14’s results leave the ladder as close as you will ever see.
