Round Four Futsal Winter State league Review (NSW)
Another drama filled evening of Futsal action as the winter state league moved into Round 4 at Sydney Olympic Park
Another drama filled evening of Futsal action as the winter state league moved into Round 4 at the Sports Halls, Sydney Olympic Park.
In the women’s match of the round Sydney City Quake took on Force 10. Sydney City Quake were looking to move up the table with victory over the young force 10 outfit. The first half was an even contest with both sides playing some entertaining Futsal. Jo-Anne Saliba looked dangerous on the break for Force 10 but at half time the scores were level.

NSW Winter State League : Sydney City Quake v. Force 10 action
In the second half Sydney City Quake started strong and were unlucky not to take the lead but for a fine save by Nina Blundell in the Force 10 goal. Rebecca Nelson had very little to do in the Sydney City Quake goal. The goal eventually came for Sydney City Quake after a well worked move which started with Fabiania Perfilo and was well finished off by Caitlin Javie. Force 10 tried to get level with efforts by Sophie Svinos and Dominique Caridad but they could not find a way past Nelson. The win sees Sydney City Quake move level on points with Force 10 but they sit in fifth place due to goal difference.

In the Men’s Action the mouth watering fixture of pool A saw 1st place Maccabi Maulers taking on 2nd placed Any District. This game started slowly with both teams happy to sit back and pass the ball around. Both teams were very mobile off the ball, which lead to some enterprising Futsal being played in the first half. Any District had the better of the chances and Johnny Myers in the Maccabi goal was keeping his team in the contest with three top class saves early on. Maccabi’s best chance in the first half fell to Jordan Mundell but he couldn’t keep his effort under the bar. Any District were first to score just before the break when Rui Ongaratto caught Myers napping and his tame effort found the back of the net to give Any District the lead going into the break.

NSW Winter State League : John Myers stops another Any District attack
The second half was full of drama with both sides creating a number of chances Maccabi under the tactical guidance of Simon Keith, Maccabi looked to have a better balance on the court and they had found their way back into the game when Mundell found the back of the net to draw Maccabi level. Any District restored there lead with in 30seconds when Osmar Barros caught the Maccabi defense ball watching to get in behind his defended and slot home. Maccabi never gave in and with a minute remaining were awarded a 10 meter penalty for a 6th foul by Any District. Antony Tow calmly stepped up and blasted the ball under Marcio Da Silva in the Any District goal to give the Maccabi Maulers a well earned draw. The result sees Maccabi stay on top of pool A while Any District drop to third.

Otago Boys High School got the trifecta at the Vikings NZ Schools Champion of Champions Tournament in Dunedin over the Queens Birthday Weekend by winning all three boys divisions.
OBHS walked away from the Vikings NZ Champion of Champions tournament in the knowledge they can now be called New Zealands best Futsal School.

The 16 Boys defeated OBHS Gold 10-1 in the final with the gold side picking up a silver while the 19 boys won the Blue Ribbon Snr boys title 4-3 in Extra Time. Linwood (Christchurch) were reigning 19 boys champions from 2008 but the OBHS side weathered a frantic finish from Linwood which saw the take the game to extra time after being 3-1 down.
All 3 sides have now qualified for the Vikings Australasian Champion of Champions tournament to be held in Brisbane during October.
In other results, Logan Park defeated Queens 2-1 in the 15 girls final. Cromwell (Central Otago) picked up the 16 girls title after defeating Logan Park 4-3, while St Hilda’s took out the 19 girls final defeating Linwood 4-3 in extra time.
