Futsal Winter State League Round 10 Review (NSW)
Reports and Results from Round 10 of the NSW Winter State League
On a bitterly cold Monday night at the Sports Halls, Sydney Olympic Park for the final round of the Futsal Winter State League.
In the women’s action match of the round saw first placed V.I.M take on fourth placed Hachies. V.I.M started the brighter in the open exchanges and took the game to the young Hachies side. Hachies looked dangerous on the counter attack and took the lead when L. Moore’s effort found its way past T. Rosekelly in the V.I.M goal. V.I.M didn’t panic and equalized two minutes later when N. Spirovski beat her maker and slotted the ball across A. Horafios and into the back of the net. Both sides had a few chances after that but the scores remained locked at one-one at the break.

NSW Winter State League : Force 10 free kick
The second half started with a bang with A. Bowering scoring just after the kick of when she was left unmarked at the back post. Hachies were still in the contest and should have equalized when N. Hamson found herself unmarked in the “D” but she couldn’t get her shot on target and it went wide. Hachies were punished for that miss when R. Tomkins made it three-one when her effort was too hot for Horafios and gave the young keeper no chance. Hachies kept fighting and got one back through R. Fleming in the dying minutes to make it interesting, V.I.M proved to be too strong and held on to the lead. The results see V.I.M crowned minor premiers while Hachies finish fourth. The semi finals are now set with a re-match of tonight’s match between V.I.M and Hachies, while in the other semi final Force 10 takes on Sydney City Quake with the winner of both semi finals progressing the final.

NSW Winter State League : Engelo Rumora (Dural) turns and shoots
In the men’s action match of the round Northern Tigers could not make the semi finals but were looking to cause and upset with a win against top placed Dural Warriors. This match was an entertaining contest with both keepers getting a work out. Northern Tigers started the brighter and took an early lead thanks to A. Smajovic’s effort that somehow found its way past I. Pemberton. Dural was always a threat when E. Rumora was on the ball. Rumora had Dural’s best chance in the first half when he turned two players but his shot went wide.
In the second half Dural started the second half strongly passing the ball nicely around the court however they were unable to capitalize on that fine passing. Northern Tigers were not fazed and were happy to sit back and absorb the pressure being applied by the Warriors. Northern Tigers then extended their lead thanks to C. Cowley’s goal that again gave Pemberton no chance in the Warriors goal. Dural were rattled and finally settled down and clawed their way back into the contest when B. Rosier’s shot from inside the “D” found the bottom corner of the net. The Warriors then drew level in the last minute of the game when Rumora low shot from the edge of the “D” gave the Warriors a hard earned point. With the semi finals now set winner of Pool B Dural Warriors will take on 2nd in pool A Pirates, while Pool A winner Maccabi Maulers take on 2nd in Pool B Quake Youth.

Futsal Premier League – Information and Registration pack (ACT)
ACT’s Futsal Premier League will have its second season this year
Capital Football extends an invitation to new and continuing Futsal Premier League (FPL) club teams to apply for the upcoming 2009 FPL.
Following the inaugural 2008 FPL, Capital Football has reviewed the League structure and increased the maximum number of teams in both mens and womens competitions from 8 to 10. The introduction of an underpinning Youth Premier League is another exciting addition to the league this year, offering talented youth players (under 19 -born 1990 and younger) further opportunity to compete in an elite playing environment.
Due to the early release of this year’s FPL information and registration pack, it is expected that teams meet each of the criteria set by Capital Football. In particular, teams participating in the 2009 FPL are required to build upon the steps made last season in developing Club structure and affiliation to Capital Football.
A stronger emphasis in this year’s criteria is therefore focused on the continued development of futsal within established football clubs in Canberra. Capital Football also recognises the importance of the establishment of new futsal entities and clubs. As such additional support will be provided to parties interested in formalising an affiliate Capital Football member Futsal Club.
Capital Football also takes this opportunity to welcome Joma as an official FPL partner for 2009. We thank Joma for their support of the League and encourage Clubs to visit their catalogue online at www.joma.com.au

Knights well in title hunt (QLD)
Ex Futsalroo Ben Hunt credits Futsal for developing his fast skills in outdoor
Livewire Ipswich Knights player Ben Hunt jokes he hasn’t been scoring goals this year because he’s too busy passing the ball.
He’s probably right.
The Australian indoor soccer representative is one of the Knights most involved players, regularly cleaning up in defence before tearing down the flanks to set up Ipswich’s dangerous trio Trent Griffiths, Andrew Korner and Brodie Kenyon.
Preparing for tonight’s Division 1 match against Rocklea at the Croatian Sports Centre, Hunt said he’s enjoying his wing-back role.
“I like where I’m playing. It’s a little a bit of everything,” Hunt, 24, said.
“A lot of fast skills (from playing indoor soccer) really help you.”
Knights coach Billy Livingstone has been pleased how Hunt has stepped up this season.
“One of the things I said to Ben at the start of the year was that I wanted to see him in a more attacking role and he’s taken that on,” Livingstone said.
“He’s probably been our most consistent player this year.
“He’s got a licence to get forward and help out and he does that well.”
Livingstone said the way Hunt combined with Alex Weatherby and Peter Drager gave the Knights terrific balance.
“Bennie’s has very quick feet, great natural fitness where he can run all day long,” Livingstone said.
“For a little guy, he’s exceptionally good in the air.”
With the Knights on target for Premier League promotion, Hunt has another reason to be feeling good.
His fiancee Lailey is about to give birth, providing a magic moment for the couple who have been together for three years.
“Everything’s going well. I’ve been real happy this year,” Hunt said, yet to set a date for the wedding.
“Everyone keeps asking. We’re pretty relaxed with it really.”
Having represented Australia twice before, Hunt was in line for national honours in New Zealand next month. But he’s put his indoor representative commitments on hold until the baby is born. After that, he’ll try for the next indoor World Cup.
Having been with the Knights since Colts, Hunt has played in every game for the top side this season.
He said his team was fired up tonight after draws against Pine Hills (1-1) and Toowoomba (2-2 last weekend) following a run of victories.
“We were missing (suspended captain) Steve Hughes out of the back (against Toowoomba),” Hunt said.
“That disrupted us at the weekend. It just didn’t seem like we were flowing like we usually do.
“Every so often you’re going to have a bad game.
“Hopefully that was one of those weeks.
“We’ll be fine this weekend.”
