Earlier this year East City decided to send a team, drawn from those who played in the 12th/13th summer league 2009, to a futsal tournament in Napier, held from 11-12 July. The ten players selected were Matthew Bouzaid, Ryan Dawson Bruce, Dylan De Jong, Martin Dow, Liam Foster, Sean Fraser, Kaito Paetz, Alex Panaho, Jake Porter and Matthew Thomas. The side was coached over a period of weeks prior to the tournament by Gabriel Crisan, one of our Premier league players.

Although 8 of the 10 were eligible to play in the U12 grade, the club decided to enter the U13s in search of stronger opposition. This proved to be the correct decision as the team was very competitive. We won 3 of our 6 games, scoring 42 goals and conceding just 24, and losing only narrowly to the two teams who went on to contest the final. The gulf between the top and bottom three teams was emphasised when East City took out the 3rd and 4th place playoff game 16-1.
