Asco Motors and Bluebird Printery are the teams to beat in the Fintel-sponsored Business House Futsal League.

In the latest round of matches at the Old National Gym on Tuesday night, Asco Motors drew 1-1 against Carpenters Hardware I to maintain its top of the table lead in pool four while Bluebird Printery extended its lead in pool three with a 4-0 win over Homemaker.

The side, however, faces a strong challenge from Dove Rentals and Fiji Bandag for a top finish.

Carpenters Hardware II led by Rewa player/coach Marika Rodu and Sarvesh Pal look set to claim top honours in pool two after beating Quest 4-3.

Former Suva striker Shashi Singh scored a hat-trick and seasoned Futsal player Kalivati Covu added the fourth.

Westpac is leading pool one after six rounds of pool play.

Organiser Sheik Dean said Asco Motors without any prominent futsal players would be the team to watch in the elimination rounds.

Dean said the 32 teams would be seeded after pool play with the eliminations to be played in the cup and plate divisions.

“Eight teams are playing in four pools. The top four from each pool qualify for the main elimination where they will be divided into four pools.

The league kicked off last month and is expected to continue until December.

2010 at Pumas Futsal (VIC)

News from Pumas Futsal about their plans for 2010

Logo - Pumas Futsal (Smaller)There is excitement in the air around the Fawkner Community Hall. After its first two years of existence, Pumas Futsal Club will enter 2010 with two eyes heavily focused on the future. The club has scrapped its player trials system and is now prepared to accommodate anyone and everyone willing to participate in the joyous sport of Futsal.

The club’s coaches will still assess the ability of players at the start of the year, however nobody will be turned away from the club. Players will be divided into groups based on their overall ability in order for them to learn at their own pace and at a level which is suitable for them.

The club’s technical director Riccardo Marchioli says “It’s all about growing the sport of Futsal not only in this area but all over Victoria. The more participants there are, the more matches that can be played and the greater the development is for all the players involved. Obviously at the younger age levels it’s all about participants getting together with friends and having fun while learning how to play.”

Pumas now has a very solid foundation to build from with the club already having over 40 registered players and the older age groups now participating in the FFV Melbourne Futsal League. It is only a matter of time before the club becomes the central point for Futsal development in Victoria.

The club also welcomes female players with an under 13 girls team set to compete in the Melbourne Futsal League in 2010 coached by current state team player Sinem Celepci. The boys teams at Pumas have also featured girls with past girls going onto represent their zone in the FFV Champions League (summer league) and the current Under 11 competition squad fielding young Anika Jordens. Marchioli says “You do see quite a few girls playing at local indoor centers, I think it’s now time for more girls to make the step up to Futsal which will hopefully improve the standard of Women’s Fotball in Australia.”

Training nights will be Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, to register your interest please e-mail pumasfutsalclub@hotmail.com with your name, date of birth and favourite soccer club and player.
