Edyn’s footy dreams (QLD)

15 Year old Edyn Belton picked for the Vikings National squad

Logo - Fraser Coast ChronicleMaryborough’s Edyn Belton has set her goals high.

She’d love to play football for Australia and marry superstar David Beckham – she’s even written the vows for their wedding and has got them pinned on her bedroom wall.

You could say that his wife Victoria may have something to say about the latter but Belton’s dream of wearing green and gold may turn into a reality one day if the 15-year-old continues to impress with her two feet.

The Aldridge State High School student plays both football and futsal for Queensland and she is determined to play herself to the top of the world game.

She’s already been picked in an honorary national team for futsal after captaining Queensland during the national titles in Albury-Wodonga.

Queensland lost 6-5 in the semi-finals against Victoria but Belton had something to celebrate when she was named in the All Stars team.

Belton, who plays club futsal for The Wannabes, a team of Aldridge students, was also selected to go on a tour of Brazil next year, something she said would be fantastic if it wasn’t for the price tag – somewhere in the region of $7000.

But it’s not only with a futsal ball at her feet that Belton, a defender, has impressed with this year.

Her football performances for the Doon Villa senior women’s team in the Fraser Coast League Division I competition saw her finish the season with the award for the most consistent senior player – not a bad effort when you consider it was her first season in the top grade.

Now the season is over, Belton, who started playing football for Doon Villa in the under six age group, said she was going to sit back and relax for a while.

“It’s been a big year in both futsal and football for me so it will be good to have a bit of time out,” she said.

“I’ve been kept busy but I’ve loved every minute of it.”

But why does Belton, whose ambition is to become a pro footballer, want to marry Beckham? “Who wouldn’t? He’s hot.”

Charging a 15 year old schoolgirl $7,000.00 by picking her for an “honorary national team” is how Vikings make their money.

If you are chosen to represent your country or state in futsal, then you should not have to pay. However if you apply for a position on a squad, then I can see why you should be paying.

If you are “chosen” by Vikings, you are representing Vikings, not a State or Australia. To be required to pay $7,000.00 for the chance to wear the “green and gold” is a farce.

Mr Henk……I have had the privilege to tour the world many times as an AUSTRALIAN futsal coach for both parties – ” FFA ” and Vikings.

Neither were bad organisers, neither were disrespectful to the national ethos…all in fact were great tours.

The best…well I have to say the Vikings tour to Brasil and Chile will take some beating !(but thats just my personal opinion).

It really does amuse me when you new boys on the block spout off about things you know little of and are terribly unlikely to find out about, all the time quality coaches like me are around keeping you in the background guessing what its like to represent your country and parade overseas in the Green and Gold in front of thousands (sometimes !) of Futsal fans !!!

    (keep dreaming sunshine !)

F.Sala. If even half the bragging you make is true you would be a most fantastic person. Unfortunatley for you, you have been caught out so many times with lies on this website that nobody can believe what you say any more.

    Henk on October 19th, 2009 1:04 pm

You stick to your V league Henky and just pray I’m lying.

How would you like me to describe in detail stadia in say……..

    New Zealand ?
    Brasil ?
    Chile ?
    Uruguay ?
    Belgium ?
    Hong Kong ?
    France ?
    Egypt ?
    Holland ?
    England ?
    USA ?

oooops now where did you say you had toured ?

    F.Sala on October 19th, 2009 1:13 pm

Thats not very nice guys…. no need to flame each other. No Christmas cards for you!

F.Sala. AUSTRALIAN futsal coach for FFA? I think not. Since FFA came into being 4 years ago, the only AUSTRALIAN futsal coach has been Scott Gilligan. He certainly does not brag or lie about his achievements!

Please take time to scroll to the top of the page and ask yourself does what you are writing have anything to do with the original article, how would you feel if all this dribble was on the bottom of a article about one of your family.

As usual 2 people can’t help themselves ruin it for all.

    Congratulations and good luck Edyn!

    Henry on October 19th, 2009 3:02 pm

    whether you agree or not…
shouldnt you be happy that there is an opportunity for someone??
    isnt that what everyone wants,…
no matter how it is provided…
congratulations edyn, i had pleasure of seeing you play at schools and you deserved the selection…
this is about the kids… noone else.. when will you all stop bickering and fighting just let the kids be proud of what they achieve cause they should be for gods sake

    nsw on October 19th, 2009 5:14 pm

Mr Henk I put FFA in inverted commas and relied on your intelligence…….oh well I’ll write everything long hand in future just for you !

    F.Sala on October 19th, 2009 5:50 pm

Edyn should be very proud. All kids chosen should be.

Noone is saying the kids should not be proud. It is more the fact that the governing bodies should be helping these kids not giving them the chance and taking it away because they cannot afford to pay up.
