The Wanderers 5 def Dri ‘n’ Shine 2

This game certainly had the makings of being a brilliant game, however the Wanderers led 3-0 early in the 1st half with goals to Con Borg, Ross Osmon and Scott Koehne. Dom Pepicelli managed to peg one back and struck a great shot from a free kick quickly followed by a goal to Piotr Sapa and it was Game On! The 2nd half was a tight encounter with both sides unable to make any impact. At the 9 minute mark Ross Osmon squeezed a goal in at the near post to increase the Wanderers grasp on the game. The only downer of what was a top game was the red card to Joey Mercorella for a handball in the goal area. (Technically it was there!) A bit harsh considering it happened with seconds remaining in the game.

Game Highlights: Simon Ortlepp’s acrobatic save from a good lobbed attempt was pure brilliance! It got me out of my chair!! How he was overlooked for the Nationals is beyond me! 2 goals each to Con and Ross, that brings him 1 behind league leader Steven Smith.

Keep on Walkin’ 9 def Le Celeste 0

Another competitive game that saw heaps of great saves from both keepers Marc Piteo and Carlo Iammarone becoming prominent in the game. Carlo again performed well as week in week out continues to be asked to make heaps of saves due to his loose ‘Blues’ defence.

Game Highlights: Marc’s 1 handed reflex point blank save a gem! Dario turned his marker inside out and earns himself a free kick in a good position but can only spray it wide. 4 goals each to Karl Piteo and Matt Jones worth mentioning.

Pool Cleaners 3 def Grads Red 2

This match was there for the taking for either team to make an impression into the final series. It was the Cleaners that took the early ascendency with 3 quick goals, 1 to Russell Hunt and 2 to Charles Ndambuki. Paul Sloan scored a great goal with a blistering shot 15 meters out to bring the score to 3-1 at the break.

Game Highlights: Nick Pettas’s hail Mary shot 30 meters out just on the buzzer – audacious! Greg “Tuso” Nicolopoulos’s unstoppable run from defence and subsequent goal was truly impressive! Again both keepers had made incredible saves during this top game but the one that stick’s to my mind was the save by Will for the Cleaners with cat like reflexes, a delight!
