Crawford Report Released
The report investigates the structure of the Australian sporting system from community to elite level
In August last year the Federal Government commissioned the Independent Sports Panel, headed by David Crawford, to investigate the structure of the Australian sporting system from community to elite level.
The panel today publically released its findings (the Crawford Report). The Crawford Report makes a series of recommendations regarding the vision for sport in Australia, reform of the elite sport system and NSOs, and the role of sport in community and education.
Two of the Crawford Report’s key recommendations which, if adopted by the Government could impact the delivery of elite sport in Australia, are that the:
• Australian Sports Commission and the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) should be separated; and
• AIS should be amalgamated with state and territory institutes/academies of sport and be funded by the Federal Government.

We are in the process of reviewing the Crawford Report and will provide you with a full analysis of the report and its impact on Australian sporting organisations in the coming days. and the public still waits to see the Futsal review
Too right Henry. I bet we’ll all be filling out surveys again at the next Nationals before we see the results of this one !!!
This Crawford report is over 5 years old. Why hasn’t the futsal review been released?
@DAVO, i think you will find that this is a different Crawford report. This is the one that has got the Aus Olympic Comm jumping up and down because he has recommended that they do not receive any extra funding. It has been big news for the last week.
@I LOVE FUTSAL
Ok so how will this apply to futsal?
@Davo
Basically what this report has concluded is that funding should be allocated to sports with a high participation rate and not focused on funding elite sports programs in sports with low participation rates. Sports which have been highlighted are Athletics, weightlifting, waterpolo, etc.
Sports which have been recommended as receiving extra funding are cricket, rugby league/ union, swimming, hockey and soccer, because of their high grass roots/ social participation rates and their contribution to the national identity. It was also concluded that sports which encourage participation at a social level should receive extra funding.
Theoretically this means that futsal should receive a funding boost because of its large participation rates.
Realistically futsal will never receive the funding the sport deserves because of the myriad of providers across the country.
In a nut shell this report will mean nothing to futsal because the futsal community can not or will not work together for the good of the sport.
I have done a bit of research into the matter, mainly I clicked on the link above and found there have been 3 Crawford reports. 1 into the VFL/AFL, 1 into Soccer and 1 into the Government funding of sport in Australia.
What Government Funding (and at what level) does Futsal get currently? And how does it get spent?
Anyone know??
I think vikings receive funding from the QLD Dept of Sport & Rec and I would assume both NSW and ACT would recieve the same sort of Funding. I have no idea what level of funding they receive.
i don’t think any of the bodies receive ant money directly from the federal government at the moment.
