With the first round of the Men’s North NSW Futsal Premier League competition completed yesterday in Coffs Harbour, the Lismore City Dragons are now firmly top of the table in the futsal (5-a-side indoor soccer) championship.

Scoring a massive 38 goals in four gruelling games on Sunday, the Dragons humbled last year’s North NSW winners Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour and the Tweed regional teams and drew 3-all in a tightly fought game with Grafton City.

The Lismore City Dragons will be out to extend their championship lead when they travel to the Tweed in a fortnight to play another four games in the second of five rounds over the summer championships.

The new-look 10-man Dragons Premier League line-up is a mixture of experience and talented youth selected from the strong 13-team local Vikings first division competition.

The players were coached and lead from the front by Brazilian ex-professional Thiago Priori who has injected real excitement into their team tactics.

Their fancy footwork has had the appreciative crowds cheering.

These talented players were selected from throughout the Byron Bay, Lennox Head, Ballina and Lismore area and all play outdoor soccer at a high level during the winter season.

The Dragons will be keen to avenge last year’s defeat in last season’s final and they look well on the way to doing just that.
