Winning the Australasian Indoor Soccer Championships was a big achievement for the Kellyville High School under-15 girls.

Over three days of play, the team won all their matches and made it to the semis unscathed.

Then they found themselves down 4-0 at half-time against country Queensland.

“The huge crowd was cheering for Queensland. They were stomping and yelling out,” the girls said.

“We only had the under-15 NSW boys side cheering for us.” The girls said they had not stuck to the game plan, which saw them as the underdogs going into the second half.

They managed to even the score at the final hooter and went into golden point time.

“The first five minutes were tense and neither team scored,” they said.

“But we knew when it started that we would win.

“We scored in the dying seconds of the second golden point time.”

As a result, the girls were selected to go to the UK next year.

But they’re hanging out for a competition being held this week in Queensland.

If they win or come second, they will be off to Brazil next May.

It should read ‘The Vikings Australasian Championships’

What I find funny is that at least a couple of these girls knew at least a month ago they were going to the UK.

They were selected for uk from the national school championships in albury wodonga..where the nsw team they were in were winners…… Their school now played in australasian champs on weekend and won.

But that is not what it says frags.

It says that because they won on the weekend they go to the UK.

If it was because they won another comp earlier then that’s great and congratulations.

No they don’t all play for the same club. They do play premier league though.

Good luck to them overseas. Will be interesting to see how they go.

I find it interesting that these girls seem to be the only winning team at that particular tournament that rate a mention. Our Otago Boys High School team from Dunedin New Zealand went through the 14 boys tournament unbeaten.A major achievement considering the heat they were playing in which they are unused to.Also the fact they have very little coaching.I find it rather annoying that there has been very little mentioned about this tournament in Australia and New Zealand, considering that most of these boys parents did not attend. The other annoying thing is that we had 1 boy named in the so called all star team,he was our 8th ranked player who did not even get a run in the semi or the final,so obviously whoever was picking the team did not bother to watch us.We had 2 outstanding players 1 scoring 24 goals, the other saving just as many.It put a dampener on a great tournament. These boys spent months fundraising to attend, come on how hard is it to give a little credit where it is due.

    D. Stevens. This article was taken from a local newspaper. It was not an article formulated or constructed by the organisers of the Australasian Championships. Obviously this school has taken the inititaive to recognise student efforts and is savvy in terms of its public image and promotion. This school too went through undefeated and had 3 players selected in the “all stars”.

Wouldn’t surprise me if it were the coach who is a vikings coach, that rung the newspaper and got the article done.
