FUTSAL SA MAGILL WEDNESDAY 28th OCTOBER ROUND 12 REVIEW
The Wanderers 5 drew Once Were Playaz 5
Clash of the Titans! 2nd versus 3rd. That’s what this game was billed as. But by the 5th minute mark the Playaz were 2-0 up, No! 3-0 up (Can’t write quick enough!). Needless to say this game was about to turn into a furnace! The Playaz were sizzling at 4-0 up with 3 minutes remaining when Zaikis passes from a corner to Martinez with pin point accuracy who strikes it well and goals! The Wanderers were in disarray! Having said that the Playaz not content with leading 5 -0 had exceeded the 5 foul count and began their usual sissy fits at decisions made by the Refs. The 6th foul was committed and on the buzzer Borg stepped up and took the 10meter penalty to peg one back. 5-1 at half time. In the 1st half the Wanderers were outplayed but in the second the “Hot to Trot” Playaz IMPLODED, lost their cool and this allowed the ever repressible Wanderers to regain momentum and snatch a comeback draw. Confusion reigned supreme as tempers flared which saw keeper Vacca red carded after his second yellow card for dissent. A wasted opportunity by the Playaz! This game was RED HOT!
Keep on Walkin’ 9 drew Pool Cleaners 3
This game also had the makings of being a powder keg. As 1st played 4th. Breneki picks up the crumbs thanks to a clanger from Chris’s side kick-in deep in his defence and Breneki is 1on1 with the keeper and slots it in. The Cleaners were lacking concentration and penetration with a 3-1 shot at goal ratio, which funnily enough sees the Walkers lead 3-0 at half time as the Cleaners lacked finishing quality. Unusual tactics in the substitution changes from the Walkers with 2 players changing each time. Both sides had great scoring opportunities only to see the ball hit the post, or just missing and some great saves by the keepers Will and Marc. And like the previous game the Walkers went to sleep at the half and the Cleaners gained ascendancy in increasing their goal shooting prowess to see Stu score his brace which included slamming in the equalizer. Another enthralling and exciting game! But played in better spirits! A Hot Game!Pool Cleaners 3 def Grads Red 2
Dri ‘n’ Shine 2 def Grads Red 1
Unlike the 1st 2 games of the night this game never reached any sort of HOT climax! Dom sends a 30 meter lobbed pass over the defence to Rob M who is alone on the wing and hits it 1st time to score a brilliant team goal. All that brilliant passage of play went to naught as Greg equalizes right after the restart when he runs on to a loose ball just outside the D and lets one rip! DeConno in goals for the Shiners had his fair share of touches as he was needed to produce some excellent saves. 1-1 at the break. The Reds dominated attack and possession early in the 2nd half with 5 shots at goal, none counted! Both side squandered chances maybe due to the hot conditions or the full moon! And both played a controlled possession game waiting for the chances. Yes!!! At last! At the 14 minute mark of the 2nd half Paul controls the ball under pressure, does a step over and pivots to lose his marker and smacks the ball into the top corner for a superb goal! The game was that well played that the refs told me that there were only 2 fouls committed in the game! Well played lads!
SOAP 5 def Le Celeste 1
Le Celeste were pressing on more occasions and deserved to score but as usual the team defending the most score against the run of play. With Vincent scoring from an acute angle. Top Goal! And then the complex of the game changed completely as SOAP increased the tempo. Pat is awarded a penalty and takes the spot kick, but Mak is equal to the task. As I was writing a cannonball smacks my glasses off hits me in the nose and sends the papers flying and all I could see was stars! Looking through starry eyes all I could hear was, squeaking shoes, thunderous footsteps, shouts of ‘stay back!, give it! shoot!, agghhh! Expleteives @$^*& , the ref’s whistle and the sheer joy of Michael Iammarrone scoring his goal! For the record Vincent scored 3 as Long scored 2 and Michael 1
See you Next Week!
Ed.
