The Strikers continued their unbeaten run in the Melbourne Futsal League, however they had to pull out all the stops to defeat a plucky AFG 6:5. Having not recorded any wins so far the AFG entered the game without anything to lose. Having recruited Nick Kalmar the AFG scored the opening goal and then another to shock the Strikers team 2:0. The Strikers have relied heavily on big target man Irzad Spijodic to do the goal scoring and he once again came to the rescue levelling the scores at 2:2 at half time. The Strikers were unusually flat in the first half, with a number of players not tracking back and following their men. However the Strikers picked up the pace in the second half and started to put the pressure on their oponents. Another goal by Spijodic and a goal a piece form Grgic and Alija Redzepovic saw the Strikers lead 5:3 with about 7 minutes left. In previous games teams have opened up and allowed the Strikers to get them on the counter attack but some of the experience and raw energy of the AFG saw them again claw back to 5:5. As written by the script “Blonde Bomber’ Spijodic again popped up to score the winner with 2 minutes remaining.
The Strikers remain at the top of the ladder with one way from claiming top spot and a certain finals spot. In other games Reservoir Wolves continued their good form dispatching the highly rated Ashburton, whilst the Cobras bounced back to trounce the Bayside Pirates.
