The Strikers U’11 Futsal team is going from strength to strength beating the much heralded AFG 13:3 in round 2 action of the Melbourne Futsal League. In a highly anticipated match the lead exchanged many times in the first half with both teams playing attacking, enterprising futsal. It was 3:3 half way through the first half, when of all a sudden the Strikers tightened up in defense and started to increase the pressure on AFG who started to buckle. 4 goals in as many minutes saw the Strikers go into the half time break 7:3 up. The coaching staff extremely pleased with the effort asked for the pressure to be increased in the second half. The most pleasing aspect of the performance was the willingness of the players to follow the instructions to a tee, allowing the game plan to materialise. 6 unanswered goals in a brilliant second half display completely stunned the large crowd, sending a clear message to all teams that the Strikers are here to play.

Samuel Logozzo in his first League match scored an amazing four goals from pivot, with most of them pile drivers from near the half way line. Jono Vakirtzis given some more freedom to roam as a rover scored three goals, with goal poacher Matthew Zalewski scoring another three goals. Jamie Gazelle and Nathan Liberto also chipped in with 2 goals and one goal respectively. Brayden Calleja, Matthew Conversano and Jayden Merceica also having great games to ensure the teams success. It can only be summed up as a great team effort.

The Strikers are playing an exciting brand of futsal, where attacking in three’s is a must and that defensively opponents are not given any time on the ball to settle. With depth off the bench at any time, the Strikers are sure to entertain.

MENS STRIKERS GO DOWN 5:4 IN THRILLER

The Mens Strikers team have recorded the first loss of their Melbourne Futsal League Campaign going down to the Reservoir Wolves 5:4. The Strikers started like a house on fire scoring quick three goals, however the Wolves regrouped with two goals to go into the half time break a goal down. The Wolves continued their momentum with another two goals in the second half. The strikers in shock fought their way back into the game with another goal to make it 4:4 with about 5 minutes left. In a tense thriller the Wolves scored with thwo minutes left on the clock to again regain the lead. Strikers had chances in the last two minutes, with Spijodic missing an after the buzzer penalty to hand the Wolves their third win in a row. Goal scorers for the Strikers were Spijodic, Bodo, Alija Redzepovic and Grgic. T Strikers will need to improve on this performance if they want to beat Asburton in next weeks last group game.

    I have sent my school teams and club teams to such competitions, we have always been competetive.
