Dear Club Secretary, Coaches, Players and Parents,
Re: National Registration Regulations letter from Football NSW Ltd
I’m sending you this letter in response to Damian Brigg’s directive to your club and to assure you that it’s contents are ridiculous and not applicable.
Please note.
1. Dual registration is where a player is registered and plays for two teams or associations where those teams or associations are both affiliated to the same governing body.
NSW Vikings Futsal Indoor Soccer is NOT affiliated with Football NSW or Football Federation Australia so it would not apply to those who wish to register and play in any Vikings competition.
2. As a club you are not responsible for your players’ other sporting activities such as swimming, netball, cricket or any other sport outside your own sporting association and/or sporting governing body.
NSW Vikings Futsal Indoor Soccer is a stand-alone sporting association and is affiliated to the Australian Futsal Indoor Soccer Association Inc. with a current player base 45,000 strong.
3. The “powers that be” purposely created this situation by organising their national Futsal championships on identical dates as the Vikings equivalent, hoping players would choose theirs overs ours. Result? Players prefer ours. This situation could and should have been avoided.
Vikings Futsal regrets the situation players, parents, coaches and clubs have been placed in. Whatever decision you take we at Vikings will fully respect.
4. Why discriminate against Premier League and Super League players and why deny them the opportunity to compete in a proper national competition where they will have the opportunity to be selected in a national touring team?
Vikings National Futsal Championships offers a large state team competition component, individual club team components and Australian representative team selections including national senior women and men’s teams. The Australian Women’s national team flew out on Monday for China to compete in a 6 nation’s tournament. This is in preparation for next year’s Women’s World Cup in Argentina.
5. Why would an entire club, the ACT Boomerangs be permitted to dual register under the FFA banner to play in the Super League in NSW for insurance purposes. Also those players from the ACT whom choose to test their skills week in week out in Premier and Super League are actually ‘dual registered’ by both Capital Futsal and Football NSW Futsal.
Vikings Futsal stands by the player’s right to choose to participate in any sport/organisation they choose. We at Vikings fully support a player’s right to better themselves in any competition they choose to play. We encourage players to participate in any activity which may assist them in their own personal development.
6. If this is to be enforced in total, ALL players registered to play in any Private centre across NSW would also be required to be banned. Including centres such as five dock leisure centre, all PCYC players and various centres throughout Wollongong area.
Vikings Futsal believes this is a sad day for the sport when players are the ones whom are targeted and threatened as to where and when they can and can not play. This ruling will effectively spell the end of the 2009/2010 premier super league as many teams will have to forfeit games due to lack of player numbers.
7. At no stage have referee’s been targeted or criticised for refereeing on both sides of the game. Is this because legally they can’t be challenged?
Vikings Futsal supports an individuals right to choose. Whether they are a referee, player, administrator, staff member or club official. Each person has the right to make their own choices to better improve their skills.
Vikings Futsal reminds Football NSW that a similar event occurred in 1988, where a Futsal player (Richie Bernard) was pressured by the then Australian Soccer Federation, by prohibiting him to play in an indoor soccer competition. (During that period the ASF did not recognise indoor soccer). The case was heard by the Brisbane Supreme Court and the player was found in favour. Therefore Football NSW’s threats are baseless and nothing more than scare tactics in a desperate attempt to salvage their diminishing numbers.
In order to attempt to resolve this Football NSW created debacle, Vikings Futsal has decided to accept players currently registered with the FFA into its 2009/2010 tournaments without the need to reregister with us. Vikings Futsal will cover the insurance component for this period. Hence, no player will be registered with our organisation to play in the national championships in Sydney.
Please do not be intimidated by Football NSW.
If you need to discuss any of these issues please don’t hesitate to contact me during office hours on 02 9825 0997.

Weeee First post before the flaming begins! -Stands back for some epic trolling.
don’t you guys get it, it is nothing to do with FNSW, but with FFA!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh for christs sake.
Nationals are always held the weekend after summernats. So the date has not been changed to make things harder for vikings.
I think vikings are the ones who have jumped the gun with dates, just to put the pressure on.
Tony, the letter came from FNSW signed by Damian Briggs wasn’t it ? Lets see the knee jerk response from Damian or his superior ?
Egg on face time FNSW ?
thats right ossieostrich, anyone with half a brain would know that the FFA nationals will always follow summernats in Canberra.
interesting how the referees have been dragged into this dog fight…
The only ones I have seen bring the refs into it is vikings. So unless I missed something, vikings slung the first one there.
You’ve missed a lot then ossie, haven’t had that ostrich head in the sand again have we ? lol
No F.Sala. I just went and read the FNSW letter and there was no mention of referees in it yet Vikings had to mention them in their letter.
Ossie…..it goes way back before that letter….ask any referee that officiated at a Vikings tournament !
Nice try Mr Briggs. Your hollow threats will get you nowhere. Expel a player and your organisation will be seen to in court. Nice try though!
F.Sala, we are however talking about this incident and not what happened back then. FNSW did not bring the refs into this particular incident, vikings did.
The refs should have been left out of it, but it seems vikings are just as bad as FNSW and are taking the chance to have a dig.
If a player wants to play for FNSW during the season, then play for them and play at Nationals.
If a player wants to play for Vikings during the season, then so be it. Play at their Nationals comp.
Sometimes people just have to make a choice and stick to it.
Those in power just have to find a way to make it easier for the players to get through this patch, and to the end of the season where I believe they can and will make the decision to go to one or the other.
Personally Vikings would be the better bet for us, but it isn’t up to me.
Ossie, no doubt you are trying to make a statement (sorry ,I missed your point!) The referee issue is and has been on going, certainly not “what happened back then ”
If the infamous Briggs letter had never been sent out (which FNSW probably now realise) Vikings would never have had to respond. And lets face it many players/officials needed clarification of their (legal) positions.
once again!!!
what a joke ffa has become!!!
leave futsal alone!!!
you have enough trouble looking after the a-league crowd numbers and participation in outdoor and lack of development!!!
F.Sala, you get so excited you miss the point that so many people are trying to make. Relax.
The first letter from NSW Futsal is just the beginning.
You will remember about 6 years ago how Qld Vikings with NSW Futsal slowly manipulated it so ISA had to merger into the fold and thus eliminated them. Yet at the time ISA was the 2nd largest provider of indoor soccer in Aust. But now people say “ISA who”.
Are the Vikings the next to disappear?
Hey Interested, the last time I got excited there were still dirigibles over London !
You say this letter is just the beginning ? So FNSW are going to ban players that participate in tennis, swimming, cricket, tae kwon do, etc etc…. this should be interesting !
Just to let you know (Interested) Isa was a collection of privately owned futsal clubs, just as most of Sydney futsal is today !
I think your memory of 6 years ago is letting you down somewhat !
Mr. sala
Your convienient “missing of the point” only seems to occur when ossieostrich made it clear he would personally prefer Vikings. Your clear bias and agenda is to the detriment of your credibility. For Vikings to write this letter of responce clearly shows some feeling of threat, as they felt clarification and justification was necessary. If everyone is as loyal to your organisation as your propoganda would lead us to believe, no responce would be necessary. Need not you respond with some senseless slander as i can predict you will, you have already proven your stupidity, time and time again…
Unfortunately this situation is only hindering the progress of the sport of Futsal. In saying that I believe the sport has gone backwards since the late 80’s anyway. All that aside… I applaud Bob Raso with coming up with a perfect solution to the situation.
Bob states “Vikings Futsal has decided to accept players currently registered with the FFA into its 2009/2010 tournaments without the need to reregister with us”.
This would naturally alleviate the problem of “registering” with Vikings. Of course Football NSW can’t possibly make this stick as I am sure it means with clubs that are affiliated to Football NSW. As we all know Vikings are not affiliated so I can’t see the issue. Also if players did decide they would only be “registering” with Vikings, not re-registering as it is a completely different organisation. Just so you know Bob, I told Dawn about your solution & she applauded as well. Keep up the good work.
The latest rumour is that FNSW has already started deregistering players that are overseas.
So what is actually happening with this situation?
Why don’t FNSW do the right thing and let those who don’t make FNSW state teams trial with Vikings?
i really believe that Vikings and futsal NSW have a lot of barriers to overcome, If the present leaders cant change things then both orgainisations need to replace the people that run them, because it is obvious that they have no intention of working together for the benefit of the game, pick up a telephone and do something about it We need new leaders take charge in both camps, the game needs this, lets face it, both camps have something to offer, it seems the only people that cant see this are ones running it, vikings nationals what a joke, FFA just as bad and since both you guys went your different ways the competition on the field has been all one sided, nsw premier league has improved the standard of futsal in NSW, its a fantastic comp, we need something even tougher when we get to state level, sadly its not there at present, well thats my thought
Unknown , your insecurity slip is showing ! The letter was written by Vikings (Bob) to point out the useless threat by FNSW which some futsal/football players may have believed .
For your own edification I dont feel threatened by the FFA let alone FNSW or FNSWF (or whatever they call themselves !)
I find it funny that for an incident of this magnitude not one single pro-FFA person has come in to defend their organisation. Perhaps they are in ignorant bliss (close your eyes and the problem will disappear)!
Hang on there Davo, Frank Rossi is back soon………he’ll tell us how futile or otherwise he thought this exercise was !
(Personally I think Damian should stick to photography !)
Does anyone know if this policy applies to Vikings Nsw only or is it a National policy? Read below,
“Vikings Futsal stands by the player’s right to choose to participate in any sport/organisation they choose. We at Vikings fully support a player’s right to better themselves in any competition they choose to play. We encourage players to participate in any activity which may assist them in their own personal development.
Vikings Futsal believes this is a sad day for the sport when players are the ones whom are targeted and threatened as to where and when they can and can not play.”
Does this policy only apply in Nsw?
