Bayside Pirates News (VIC)

News on the MFL fortunes and results for their local comps. Also mentions a visit from Rob Varela scouting for National talent

Bayside PiratesPirates Boys win again in the MFL!

The Pirates Boys beat Geelong 8-1 in the last MFL round before Christmas. It was an all round team effort with six different goal scorers. The Pirates are sitting on 7 points from three games played, which puts them in a good position going into the Christmas break. In the Mens MFL final, watched by a capacity crowd at Caroline Springs, St Albans narrowly beat the Cobras by one goal in extra time. National Futsalroos Assistant Coach, Rob Varella, was in the crowd observing the Victorian talent for the upcoming Asian qualifyers in Indonesia in February. Rob was in Melbourne for two days holding trials for selected Victorian players. This was a first for Victorian and Australian Futsal, as the selection process has now changed, giving all players around the country an opportunity to play for Australia. More importantly, the pathway for our Junior players is now more defined with this initiative by the FFV and FFA. It all bodes well for our sport and the up and coming junior Pirates!
