Large Field for 31st FFA Futsal Nationals
121 squads across a wide range of age groups to compete at the 2010 Nationals
A large entry field has been received, for both Male and Female competitions, as Canberra prepares itself for the 31st FFA Futsal National Championships to be held in The Capital in January 2010.
One Hundred and Twenty One squads will take to the courts around the region ranging from under-11’s, through to Open Age, as the cream of Australia’s indoor talent battles to become the National Champion in their respective age-groups.
Two teams from the Solomon Islands have confirmed their entry in the tournament, taking the court in under-12 boy’s and under-15 boy’s competitions, whilst Auckland Futsal, from New Zealand, will place two entrants in the under-11’s boy’s competition.
NSW (Thunder and Lightning) has a large presence, as usual, and will be favourites to take out a number of titles from the thirty-one squads entered. Likewise the home town team, the ACT, who put out twenty-one teams across the spectrum of the age groups.
Each state throughout Australia will field at least one team in the 31st FFA Futsal National Championships with Western Australia and Tasmania represented with four and one squads respectively.
A full breakdown of State participation in the 31st FFA Futsal National Championships follows:
Number of Squads
31 – NSW (Thunder & Lightning)
21 – ACT
18 – Victoria
12 – Queensland
11 – Northern NSW
10 – South Australia
9 – Southern NSW
4 – Western Australia
2 – Auckland Futsal
2 – Solomon Islands
1 – Tasmania
Action commences in the nation’s Capital on 11th January 2010, with finals scheduled for 15th January 2010. For further information on the FFA National Futsal Championships, visit www.futsalnationals.com.au

good luck to the girls from tassie who are average at best in local vikings comps!
Wow, this will grate some on here. Auckland Futsal are a private club not affiliated to Football NZ therefore not the beloved FIFA, so my sources tell me.
maybe is a softening of approach by the FFA to allow non sanctioned teams into their Nationals.
it’s all about numbers Ole,
Go! NSW….. with 42 teams combined with NNSW we should win the lot!
sorry forgot South NSW + 9 it just gets better every year!
51 teams out of 121 not bad at all.
NSW represents 42% of teams entered
NSW represents 32% of Australia’s population
Quite reasonable metric given the location of the event and the maturity of the Super League and Premier League in NSW.
@ole nice try but they will have clearance from NZ Football to compete
Victoria will do well, specially in the younger age groups.
maybe ole you could give us the percentages of qld teams in the vikings nationals, wonder if your point of sarcasm might be a bit premature. futsaldad could you help us out with your maths.
nah nsw tops the poll in the vikings nats too! mind you, thats just the senior draw… junior ones not complete yet…
Queensland = 10 teams.
Nsw = 14 teams
Victoria = 4 teams
Western Australia = 3 teams
Tasmania = 4 teams
New Zealand = 3 teams
South Australia = 1 team
Good to get a glimpse of what us Kiwis are in for! we have clearance so perhaps time for a new source Ole?! Competition will be great, our 2 teams are so excited!! Fantastic opportunity to enter such a large tournament.
Futsalmum….what age groups are the Kiwi teams in?
Yes, It is great that Auckland Futsal will be attending the FFA Nationals. Futsalmum, are the teams selected as an A and a B side or are they 2 even teams? Also, does anybody know if SA in the 12s are an A and a B side or 2 even sides?
From the look of the tournament the 11s and 12s especially look like they are going to be extremely good competitions and the teams that come out on top and the players that win the players of the tournaments will have done very well.
Hopefully they put the draw out so everyone can start planning etc.
Oh dear me an FFA representative told me they thought the numbers should be drastically CUT to eliminate all but the ELITE teams ! The futsal showcase if you like ?
Seems now they want any old team to try and outnumber the group they “banned” from their Nationals !
Is this to be the last “FFA” Nationals, so its boots an’ all ?
Oh dear me!
A Vikings representative told me they thought they should only hold every second age group at their Nationals!
That way they can ensure that they have at least 8 players in the squads…
Is this to be the last Vikings Nationals, so they go out with a bang?
pwned …
Well done Capital Football Futsal. Could you please make sure that the balls do not disappear under the seating in the AIS main arena?
Yes mseeto, it must be lonely in the palace without Qld vikings supporters there as they usually made up about 80% of the spectators ! Now if your balls are disappearing as well……it must sound real hollow ! lol
I was going to reply to S.Hitstirrer but I cant think of any infantile comments that she would understand ! so I wont bother.
Wow, so if I’ve got this right, there will be over 200 teams playing Futsal during the same week, I’m impressed.
There still seems to be a pissing contest BUT I think people are overlooking the fact there will be over 200 teams playing. Would be nice to see the states attempt to do more for the game (ie development at social and grass root level) rather than pick teams to play Futsal once a year and those states know who they are.
I remember the days when the Nats in Canberra were very much like this, but then Football wanted just 1 team from each state now they are going the other way and having as many as possible, interesting.
I’m curious about the NZ sides being sanctioned as in NZ no club region or group is affiliated with FNZ. Sounds like FNZ and FFA are very similar.
So back to my original statement over 200 teams around 1700 players. Makes you think doesn’t it.
Many know I’m pro Vikings, but I have to say this is what they have been wanting…. as many as possible having the opportunity to play. I think 1700 odd over 3 or 4 days is pretty impressive. The next trick is the ensure that these ALL become FUtsal players and not just players picked for 1 tournament then the game will grow, sadly, Football swings into action in Feb (hell players are having to miss games now for pre preseason training) and Football will shelve Futsal until August…. if only there was a Futsal Org running things
1700 playing all at once…. impressive
Futsalmum, Glad to hear your teams are excited.Dont worry about anyone telling you its not the biggest futsal tournament in Australia, its usually very well organised and run. Ive just returned from your southern Island and was very impressed with the overall improvement of futsal especially in Christchurch and Dunedin. I believe Vikings (Nth Island) are now working hard to catch up with their “rivals”…..Good luck to you all
F.Sala, when was the last time that under the guidance of A.Miller Queensland attended an opening ceremony?
I tell you, when everyone was squeezed like sardines into the venue at Carrara. Before and after: not on your Nelly!!!!!
Last year ok ? FYI, I have a first aid kit ready for your next visit to the Gold Coast………….you’re really hurting aren’t you ( and I’m somewhat pleased about that!) lol
Futsaldad and F.Sala we are entering an A and B team both in the 11year old age group. We have had less than 2 months to prepare so a bit on the back foot but so looking forward to seeing the talent that our neighbours will be showcasing! Seems as though there are some ‘hardcore’ parents out there…they are going for the kids right??!!
Without parents Futsalmum, the futsal world would be a BIG step closer to perfection ! lol
Some of their behavioral problems are unbelievable ! (far worse than any kids !)
I’m sure they dont get out enough ! lol
im sure you get plenty with your humour ian.
@ excited,
noticed you mentioned that 11’s and 12’s will be a good comp…… also noticed a few teams from nz traveling to ffa nats……
i would challenge any team that wins the ffa nationals to come to tasmania and play a viking tasmanian teams in similar age groups! we would organise a tour for them that would see them have much better competition than they would face at ffa nationals!
teams from 13 yrs and down….
anyone interested in a tour contact me!! corey@vikingsfutsal.com
Corey i guarentee you that FFA nationals would kill anything you have in Tasmania in those age groups. We may be able to bring our 11s or 12s down to Tasmania and have a tough close game with your 16s but that is about it.
Excited, I hope your 11s and 12s will be dual registered players eh ? Or wont your “controllers” allow that ? Hahahahahahaha
F.Sala, why are you so arrogant about your states futsal? They can only win the Vikings tournaments because NSW don’t send overly strong teams. Just imagine, NSW Thunder versing them. The headlines say NSW thrash them by 5 goals.
And yes that’s NSW Thunder versing your top mens team.
excited…… the challenge is there mate! Bring them down and I will beat your team with our Tasmanian teams in the same age group…..
If you are that confident than possibly you should bring a tour down and see whether you can walk the walk?
There have been a lot of things said on here about Vikings being weak as Tasmania has won this age group… bla bla bla….. well had you ever thought that maybe Tasmania has improved at junior level? I guess that would not have occurred to you as you have only ever come up against our very weakened counterparts?
Have a happy and safe Christmas EVERYONE!
May santa be kind to ALL of you!
Ready Corey. I will say one thing:
Tasmania only win these age groups because the best kids from around Australia are in canberra at that time of year :)
Good luck at your club comp with your islanders and so on :):)
Jake C, I am arrogant about Vikings futsal developing the game at grass roots level all over the country ( a lot of my work is done in NSW !) As I dont go to the same school as you, to be honest I dont give a shit who wins what as long as the sport grows without interruption from any football committees !
Sorry to disappoint you, but like so many other New South Welshmen you only seem concerned with one team ?
Its a pity you cant see the bigger picture.
The draw for Nationals is out, and it looks like those travelling will get a few more games than anticipated as it looks like some age groups are playing every team in their group twice.
justwondering……. another one of you bloggers who is very big on talking it up but not putting a name to it……..your comments are very un-educated if you honestly believe that….. although my guess is that you actually don’t know but just like to try and make the canberra comp sound better?
I have stated earlier in the post and will do once more……. If you think there are better out there, then bring them down! Don’t just talk about them!
Corey, why would the champions from the FFA belittle themselves and go down to a little island for so-called opposition. This is like the Vikings teams bragging about beating NZ! Give me a break.
In stitches I can fully understand why, helping pass on your experience to Tassie players has never crossed your mind ! FFA Champions huh ? Someone ,somewhere is impressed I guess ?
No you carry on beating footballers and dont worry about futsal players anywhere in Australia (after all it not up to you to help improve our sport is it ?)
F.Sala, unlike you I am not privilaged enough to earn a living off the sport and claim to be doing so for the sport (sounds weird doesn’t it). All that I am saying, and you can bag me out as much as you like, Vikings competitions are generally under strength when compared to the FFA nationals. This is fact based upon previous results when Qld Vikings competed in this event. I cannot see how Vikings could have improved by having second rate teams playing each other and claiming to be national champions. That is it! I will register my own company and charge parents thousands more than it actually costs to send teams overseas and make some money. Then I too can blame everyone else for not providing this service. If this fails, I will then affiliate to Vikings and as you do blame everyone else by not actually stating what I am doing but what everyone else is not. Signed A Miller.
Yes my comment above was a tad arrogant. I do want what’s best for Australian futsal. FFA don’t seem to provide too much, FNSW do alright. I just don’t think that bagging every federation helps at all. Shouldn’t we be all trying to work together to achieve the greater good, not breaking away and taking some of the best players when they can’t be affiliated with FIFA, FFA or the like. I’m not saying you don’t do a good job because to be quite honest I don’t know you but just bagging every federation doesn’t help. I think in the future, if two competitions, are to continue then why not have the Nationals winner vs the Vikings winner in each different age group. This could add to the excitement every year.
My son luke will be playing in the championship for the 1st time for nnsw hunter, could someone enlighten us on the opening and the duration of this 1st day event. Thanks Chris
Lukes Dad,
You can find everything at the following website. It has the details of the Opening ceremony and the draws etc.
http://www.futsalnationals.com.au/
Goodluck!
In Stitches, you like many others miss the point completely. For Gods sake don’t start your own business you don’t seem to have the acumen or common sense.
Vikings is like the FFA – It is the largest provider of futsal in Australia and worries more about providing facities and the opportunities for our children and adults to play futsal close to home.
You seem more concerned about the ability of the Fairfield u/7s beating the world (that’ll keep you wondering for hours!).
When NSW thunder lightning or cyclones join Vikings they DO NOT become NSW Vikings Thunder, etc etc they can play under their own names.
Have Vikings some of the best futsallers in the country playing under their banner ?, probably YES have they some of the worst players ? probably yes, DOES IT REALLY MATTER ?????
The fact that you slept through geography classes at school will not help you understand how big Qld is ! Remember I coached the rep sides in Sydney for many years I know the difference….you’re only guessing !
I noticed Vic has 2 teams in the 11 and 12 boys Magic and Rangers. Whats the difference? Is one team stronger than the other?
for those interested in standard gaps in tasmania.
i heard that the 12 yr boys vikings team played the 12 yr old boys fft team and won 8-0 or something like that.
also heard that the 13 yr old girls fft team only beat the 12 yr old girls vikings team 1-0 and the 12’s had half a team?
gregory….how can their be a match with the U12 Boys FFTas team? Strange they are not entered in Canberra?
they were kids that have been champions in the fft competition year after year and are all state outdoor reps…… who apparently had been mocking the futsal kids about the fact they could “smash” them and the guess what……… 8-0 pumping the other way in 15 min halves!
This topic is the FFA Nationals. May I suggest that nobody bothers reading, let alone replying to anything posted by F. Sala. A pointless exercise.
Pity you’re not the ‘real’ Denis Law ! Please suggest anything you like but my charm is so magnetic they cant help but read and reply to me ! Ooooops , hope I’m not spoiling your Christmas ! lol
Whose F. Sala?
Mr Futsal
The post was not for your benefit but for those who wished to read postings about the FFA Nationals. Not about Vikings this and Vikings that……
I doubt you’ve ever seen Denis Law in the flesh so how would you know ?
He probably hasn’t met denis law before but i reckon he has met Falcao…… this is significant because Falcao is a Futsal player and Denis Law is not (to spell it out once more)…… and wait for it….. Denis Law is a Footballer and FFA is Football Federation of Australia and this blog is FUTSAL4ALL and not FOOTBALL4ALL so I don’t see how FFA are relevant…..
Do you?
Maybe next week a few rugby players might come on here and chat about their nationals?
Highlights of the Youth, Women and Mens finals will be shown on SBS. Dates will be posted on this website.
Wrong again Denis, met the real Denis Law with Goeorgie Best and David Sadler…..feel more stupid now do you……….HAPPY XMAS ! lol
F.Sala is Ian Bentall from Vikings an official employee of theirs. Its been established in other threads.
If his views represent vikings, the sport will forever be clogged down in politics and name calling.
Vikings are obviously proud of him tarnishing their image.
Don’t waste your breath Smithy. Vikings obviously support their no all, no nothing official representative. He is the best advertisement for staying with FFA.
The only person who probably represents who they are on here is Frank the rest are people with opinions who use pseudo names including me.
Personally I couldn’t see why Vikings or the FFA would waste there time reading this site is all he said she said. I quite sure they would be talking to each other rather than coming here, hmmmm maybe 2010 has some big announcements in it… hmmmm Maybe Futsal will be put in the hands of Futsal people/players and supporters…. maybe
enjoy your break, and remember there will be over 200 teams playing Futsal during the second week of Jan… remarkable…. that is good for the game!
Toepoke
I am another. I have been watching several of these forums / topics and it is just bullshit.
It does more harm than good. The worst thing is, is that our youngsters Australia wide are reading all this dribble.
Let’s hope for a more positive 2010.
To All:
Wishing you and your families a safe and Merry Christmas and have a Hppy and Prosperous New Year!
I don’t understand why both side’s supporters consistently deliver the bullshit on here. I will get it out from the start, I am a FFA supporter, because I had bad experiences with Vikings when coaching at nationals in a comp that pitted 6 QLD teams against 1 VIC and 1 TAS team. In my opinion, nationals should be 1 team from each state federation. There seems to be a bit of ignorance when it comes to NSW, but yes, they are separated into 2 state bodies, FNSW and NNSW. I find more prestige in being selected to play for Queensland at Nationals than I do in being selected for Queensland Metro, Queensland City et al. The facts concerning the governance of the game in Queensland are undeniable. Yes, Vikings have done a great job in developing futsal. However, many people are getting frustrated and disillusioned with the selection process and particularly the sheer simplicity of being selected in an ‘Australian’ team. I would think we are cheapening the honour of being selected for Australia if we are naming every development tour as an Australian team, which is how they are being reported. Also undeniable is the fact that Australia’s convergence with the AFC (yes, football) came with a proviso that futsal be developed as a sport in it’s own right. So, FFA and FQ (I’m not up to date with all the other state federations so I won’t discuss them) are doing the right thing by the sport and setting up the pathways for development. But then we have Vikings supporters shooting them down and saying they do nothing? There are people in FQ Futsal who are bloody passionate about the sport, and are working on doing things properly. These things take time, but the foundations are in place. It seems as though alot of people are more concerned about their own backyard than they are about the overall development of the sport. FQ have committed time and money to the sport, which no one can deny is a step in the right direction. Individual clubs have committed time and money. The signs are there for a good competition to be up and running. Yes, there have been failures in the past, but these are lessons that the current administration will learn from. Personally, I’m excited about the future of futsal in Queensland. It will take a bit of time, but I’m hopeful the end product will see pride and exclusivity restored in the Queensland jersey, because there’s nothing worse than travelling to another state to play nationals against people you play against every week at club level.
FQ have put in the team to develop the sport, and the most heartening thing is seeing that they honestly care about the development of the sport, not about seeing how much shit they can make stick to the opposition.
Hi Philip. There will be a meeting in Canberra during the Nationals. Currently all states except NT, (and awaiting a reply from Tasmania)will be attending to move the sport forward.
why would tasmania go to the meeting when they are not sending teams? fft have done nothing for the team traveling and rumour says they will be back with vikings next year, especially judging by the results of the practise matches.
Hi Gregory. The team from Tasmania would be FFA affiliated. Anyone who genuinely cares about the sport should be happy that there will be a meeting to improve futsal in Australia.
@mseeto, WOW. A meeting at the nationals to move the sport forward. Maybe they will set up a national futsal committee and do everything else they are meant to have done over the last 3 years.
@phillip canham, FQ have no interest in futsal, they are only running it because they have too. The CEO of FQ has fought hard over the last decade to discredit futsal. But now he is going to run the sport well. I don’t think so.
Brilliant, another meeting that will decide, well the date of the next meeting. Mind you I wonder if they will table the review at this meeting or will we have to wait another year.
Phil, 1 team from each state, that was what they tried to changed the Nationals to a number of years back but now it’s back to as many as possible.
IMO all kids age groups are development and if there is depth then 2 teams should play or if geography is a problem for trainings etc the 2 sides should go. The winning of a Nationals is a bonus the process is so much more important to the player and the future of the game. This then creates so much more depth at Senior level.
Like I said IMO
Isn’t Ian attending on behalf of Vikings?
whilst the current situation may be confusing to players and parents, it also allows a much larger player group to get more experience playing at higher levels of Futsal.
As i’ve mentioned plenty of times, WA has a very limited competition base over here, and Vikings tournaments allow players from WA to travel and play against teams and players that we would otherwise not play against. This helps develop skills, and give players the much needed experience to get better in this sport.
It’s a shame that Football West haven’t organized any kind of tournaments in WA, as about half of the WA squad play Futsal exclusively, without any commitment to any outdoor teams. However, getting better outside of training, is extremely difficult due to the lack of any development (that is until Vikings started in the last 5 months over here).
Brad…. surprisingly enough our points are similar!!!
How much does toejam wanna run his mouth…..
any one know what happened to the Qld mens team, only 11 teams now and men aren’t mentioned
FQ website;
Eleven Queensland teams will travel to Canberra this week to take part in the 31st annual National Futsal Championships.
Queensland will be represented in the following age groups: U11 Boys, U12 Boys, U13 Boys, U13 Girls, U14 Boys, U14 Girls, U15 Boys, U15 Girls, U16 Boys, Youth Men and Open Women.
Apparently half the team couldn’t afford to pay their way.
The rumour I heard was that they were hoping for FQ to foot the bill and they refused because some of the team did the same last year and they still haven’t coffed up the dollars!
Good Luck To All.Go Northern.
Hi Luke’s Dad. Do you know if Mathew Pratt will be at the Nationals? If not, who is in charge of the NNSW contingent? The office is closed until Monday.
@mseeto Matt Pratt is not going to the Nationals Peter Haynes is looking after NNSW.
When are all the teams from VIC, SA, WA, Auckland, Solomons etc arriving in Canberra?
Peter Haynes. Plese check your email.
