Budding futsal players were treated to a guest coaching appearance from Matildas regular Jo Burgess yesterday.

Burgess, who suits up for the Brisbane Roar tomorrow when it takes on Sydney FC in the W-League grand final, dropped in to Kawana Waters State College to guide the youngsters through some drills.

The Brisbane product played for Sydney FC in last year’s inaugural competition and now has the chance to beat her old team and win a title.

“The W-League has been great – it’s been able to develop younger players as well,” she said. “It’s been great for Tommy (Tom Sermanni, the Matildas coach) to see the young players coming through.”

Burgess is hoping to make the Matildas squad for next year’s Asian Cup.

“That’s (playing in the Asian Cup) how we qualified for the last world cup,” she said.

“We haven’t got a set squad yet. The squad’s getting re-selected after the W-League finishes, so it’ll be interesting to see who makes the squad.”

“I’m pretty confident of making it. I’ve had a good season.”
