Why is the webpage calling for nominations for the team championships for 16 Jan when on the same page there is a notice saying this has been postponed until mid 2010? “Please continue to check the draw up until Monday 10th January @ 5.00pm for any changes.” “These venues are subject to change”. Vikings do not seem to be very sure as to who is going to turn up!

I guess there is one advantage of those participation numbers…….QLD will win more than the 0 or 1 they used to win at the proper nationals :)
Bwhahahaha … so true.
WA, NZ has never won anything.
WA and NZ combined only has 10 where Qld has 38, duh!
6 teams in the U15 & 16 girls combined, and 3 of those are QLD.
Not to mention 4 teams in U16 Boys. 3 from Qld and one from NZ.
How can people be saying that Vikings is so much better than FFA when they have groupings like this.
This year FFA Nationals are definitely the better comp, hands down.
When both Vikings and FFA finally get over their ‘I am better than you’ syndrome and work together, then maybe we will see one comp where there is actually competition.
Hm, yet again, futsal’s success is being measured by a once a year National competition? Whilst I agree it is great to see nearly 200 teams competing… You have certain people “creating” teams to outdo the other group…. I believe its more a case of who wants futsal around in 100 years time? Who wants a national league competition for men and women and youth ? Who wants an education/development programme for children, who wants school futsal inclusion/development, who wants the “outback” Australians playing our wonderful sport? Who wants………..
Who can provide all this? One national futsal body who has no conflict of interest………..
Some people cant see futsal being successful without football being ibvolved, I cant see futsal being successful WITH football being involved, just think about it ?
thats right Ian, and abolish the NSW sooper dooper leagues as well while you’re at it.
‘Certain people creating teams to outdo the other group’
Please elaborate.
oh come on Hm, where has your head been buried the past 18 months or so?
“…and abolish the NSW sooper dooper leagues as well while you’re at it.”
That’s a good think to do. Cut the elite league so no grass routes players have anything to aspire to and officials have no way of development. [/shakes head]
NSW PL/SL is a very good thing for development of ALL players and officials.
Some of the referees involved are from other states and come on board in an effort to hone their skills.
Where do vikings play in Sydney. My boy is currently a premier league player
sent before I finished. He is also an out door premier league player. You mean to say he can play at nationals by simply entering his own team? How is that a nationals tournement. Why doesn’t vikings just send invitations to all the premier and super league players registered and see what interest is created. I take it Vikings want interst from decent players for a true national competition.
Sydney contact numbers should be on the the Vikings website but you’ll have to promise to give up playing outdoor Premier league to be considered by Vikings.
Outdoor players take a while to gear up to futsal. It is not a straight change from a players perspective although the majority of laws are the same. Football refs allow a lot more to go by than futsal refs (futsal refs should pick up a lot more). IMO this causes some issues (frustration) for football players. Either way, good luck with it.
Are you serious, Vikings would not consider you if you play outdoor premier league. Noboby surely takes futsal seriously, its a lot of fun with lots of goals but out door is the game you need to excel in.
You may NEED to excel in football but that does not apply to all. Some prefer to specialise in futsal (and take it very seriously). I believe the f-League will highlight that. Just the fact that it is being considered should show that not all focus is on football.
I can say in all seriousness, that football players benefit greatly from futsal where the reverse does not apply to the same degree. Just because he is a good football player, that does not mean he will be a good futsal player. IMO football players (be they kick and giggle or Premier League) do not slot straight in to futsal. I believe both sides in the current debate (Vikings and FFA) would attest to that.
Futsal up to the age of 14 has its benefits but after that futsal is just a game of fast furous fun. Nobody surely thinks there are professional futsal players out there, I don’t think so.
Just curious to know the composition of the very large rock you have just crawled out from CAC…
I know, I know: you are just taking the lead from F.Sala and want to stir some manure!
Are you talking about Vikings trying to outdo FNSW in the Women?
Or are you just making the whole thing up, especially considering the fact a certain coach from Vikings tried to get a team together of PL girls who played for NSW last year.
vikings actually provided open trials for all players this year in nsw… all information was sent to every centre and every club….
the girls side of vikings in nsw is very strong and im sure they are happy with the sides they are putting out for the championships. and with a world cup next year and opportunity for the girls…
yes the nsw girls have actually played throughout the year in qld twice in sydney twice and in new zealand… against not only other states including arch rivals qld, but also nz and thailand. pretty cool if you ask the girls!!
Sounds like Vikings dont need to try and “outdo FNSW in the women” Hm !
Did you hear about the child that went fishing and didn’t catch a thing ? In fact he didn’t even get a bite !
Guess he used the wrong bait eh Pauly ?
Hahahahahahahaha
as it is, did you ask about who trialled for the different teams?
Obviously not, because not even enough girls turned up for the U16 trial to make a full team. Even though the word was put out through PL & SL for girls to trial.
Yes it was publicised, but that doesn’t always help.
I think both Vikings and FNSW stuffed up with trials this year.
I am pretty sure that ill fated threat letter affected Vikings trials and it was a great ploy by FNSW to ’scare’ kids from doing what they wanted….
Pretty disappointing if you ask me really. From what I am told interest was massive for trials for vikings for numerous reasons including cost. Parents simply do not have the money to go to canberra this year. But well they get given little to no choice.. High Five FNSW great tactic… I think the saddest part is players are being threatened and thats never necessary. Players will play where the best product is and where THEY WANT to play.. you can’t force them to do anything, well you can try but it is just morally wrong!
Quote one of the NSW coaches at FNSW trials when none of the Vikings womens state team players turned up to trials 3 days after the letter… “I cant believe none of them turned up??”
Of course they didnt, they have worked together as a unit for months preparing themselves bot physically and mentally and putting a little bit of professionalism into the womens game. Noone could take that from them, and good on them for standing up for their beliefs! Best part is they were left to make their minds up as individuals and stuck together as a team. Hopefully they do well in Sydney.
In saying that hopefully the Thunder n Lightning do well In canberra, as everyobe is friends at end of day and everyone from NSW..
In saying all this I think the most worrying sign is that players are walking away from elite selection on both sides… a need which needs to be addressed and counteracted before it is too late!
p.s. the 16’s side for Vikings is of a very high quality and I know all involved are very happy with the side put together,.
@as it is
Don’t worry, because Vikings do not have any interest in elite or “sooper dooper” leagues. Apparently (according to F.Sala and ronaldo9) it makes no difference to the sport. I wonder why they have a Nationals then …
think you will find that is not really the way it is….
the sooper dooper league as you put it serves a purpose…. but it is not the be all and end all….
you must build the game from te bottom up also… provide grassroots development as well…..
yes you need the elite as you are correct everyone needs something to aspire to..
my question to you for love of game.. what is there for the youngsters of our sport to aspire to ? oh thats right playing in the mens side. unlucky if ur born without something hey..,. playing for nsw in canberra is as good as it gets once a year and okaying super dooper league. yeah mad thanks!!
There’s a lot of talk in all these threads regarding the rights and wrongs of elitism. Why should Futsal be any different from any other sport? Yes every sport needs grass roots development and local leagues for the average player, but we are talking here about national competitions, albeit Vikings or FFA, surely these should be the best teams available, consisting of the best players. Every sport in the world has elitism; you just have find your level.
The cost of travelling to these competitions has also been raised, and yes, it is not cheap. Therefore you wouldn’t want to spend all that hard earned cash on a mediocre tournament would you? No, you want to see just how good you really are.
There are also plenty of sports out there that have more than one governing body, but not all have the public scrap fights that seem to adorn these forums on a daily basis. Have individual tournaments, both bodies have made sure that the kids can’t compete in both, but then bring the two together for a Champions of Champions scenario.
Yes there will be plenty of replies shooting me down in flames….. But I pity the fools.
mr t god point for sure……
Mr T FIFA and the FFA are basically about elitism and, I agree absolutely there is nothing wrong in that.
Where Vikings differ is the fact that they support and encourage development tours as well as elite (e.g. AMF ).
One of the best dev. programme/tours Ive seen (and Ive been around a bit !) Is the Vikings tour to Brasil. Ive seen massive improvements in Aussie kids in 3 weeks training/playing …….The FFA have enough to worry about with their outdoor game let alone adding the worries of futsal.
In a country of our dimensions we need one National body controlling the sport
Group A v Group B will only satisfy a few egos for a short while and will really achieve little else.
Having ALL futsallers eligible to play for their national team would be a bigger achievement….just ask the national coaches ?
p.s Dont worry about the public scraps as you put it. Its only a few of us who have nothing better to do with our time ! lol
Why would you want to play in this micky mouse competition when the True Nationals are on at the same time in canberra.
Far out you viking people are wing nuts
@San Miguel
umm, cost… how much does it cost you to play in Canberra… it would cost me $2600. and the other 20 players we’re sending for the Men’s Open, it would cost them $2600 each…
That’s $54600 to Football West for 1 week in Canberra. No they won’t give us an itemized account of what that covers, but to me it seems a LITTLE on the excessive side…
You can argue all day that the competition is better in Canberra, but the competition in Sydney is still very good. And they players we send are still getting experience, and WA futsal will be the better for it once there is a single proper national futsal organization and competition recognized by all.
Until then, experience is more important then Elitism.
I remember being told by a friendly Qld coach that, under big Al, players were paying around $1000 per kid to play in the Schools Nationals a few years back.
The venue: Beenliegh, a southern suburb of Brisbane. The coach was starting to work out why the good players were saving their pennies for the Canberra mainstream Nationals…
Just curious to know wether the money was for accomodation, transport or food LOL
Brad,
Is it your organisation who will not give you an itemized account of what that covers or another organisation from another state?
like curious said it would most likly cover accomodation, transport or food…..
Perth-Canb airfares + Accom + Mini Bus Hire + Kit/fees/etc will run north of $2000 per player.
Not sure what the $2400 covers, but doesn’t seem out of the ordinary.
futsaldad are you on drugs? and for that matter are you all on drugs?
ask the tasmanian team travelling to nationals in canberra how much support they received from FFT and FFA and also ask them how much it cost them to go?
I think you will be very surprised by the result of your questions and the lack of fairness!!!
well a comparison point, is that it costs LESS then half of that to play in Sydney…
and it’s Football West that don’t give an itemized account.
it covers Airfares, Accommodation, and transport to and from the event i believe – all of which we get for less then half when staying in Sydney(it’s well worth noting that Vikings assist with Accom and transport).
When we can organize it ourselves for much less, it seems unlikely that the $2600 is required. I am looking forward to next week however.
Good luck to all in BOTH competitions.
I think the only problem with the draw is that some teams play, have 1 game off and are expected to play again. They should have made the days longer and had minimum 2 or 3 games in between teams games. I feel sorry for 10 and 13 boys. Why didnt they go from 10am right through to 7 or 8 at night? They could have had 2 games and than had 50 or 100 mins without games. At least they would get a worthwhile break?
What’s with WA, SA and TAS all dropping out of the Ladies section?
Vikings obviously put them in there hoping that they would enter. It was impossible to put all the team lists out before the deadline for entries closes. Teams dropped out of the mens aswell as there is only 9 team in it when there were 2 groups of 6 i believe before?
It is also funny that a little while ago Vikings supporters were going on about how good it is that there nationals will have so much variety etc in womens age groups. really there is not much different.
i.e. 12 girls Vikings there are 3 states represented (1 QLD, 2 x TAS and 1 NSW)and 12 girls FFA there are states represented ()
Womens Vikings there are states represented() and FFA there are states represented().
And FFA boys competitions are definately more varying. Take the 11 boys as an example, Vikings there are 3 states represented (2 x NSW, 2 x QLD, 2 x TAS) where as FFA there are 5 states/countries represented (5 x NSW, 2 x ACT, 2 x VIC, 2 x NZ, 1 QLD).
mens comps in both looking strong comps, FFA probably just winning out due to NSW Thunder, Lightning and Cobras being stronger than anything Vikings will have.
*i.e. 12 girls Vikings there are 3 states represented (1 QLD, 2 x TAS and 1 NSW)and 12 girls FFA there are 4 states represented (2 x NSW, 2 x ACT, 1 VIC, 1 WA)
I know which comp is the better value to play in.
I will repeat my comment from when the Senior draw was first released
“A draw 2 months before the event!!! Lets see Vikings stay true to form… Put the draw out then chase the teams to actually turn up and play. We all know that Vikings are not organised enough to have all the team in the draw nominated, paid and committed to attending the event. The chase is on now to scramble to get what the draw has promised!!!”
and F.Sala had the hide to attack my comment. Look at the teams fall.
Tasmania’s men and women have withdrawn due to the coaching staff becoming ill and unable to travel.
The team had very limited preperation and were pulled out due to this as they will train now towards 2011!
vikings that is.
it is disappointing, however the strongest teams do remain. it’ll be a good tournament, with fitness playing a key role IMO.
The WA women are not playing for Vikings, because their coach did not want to leave Football West(a few players were told by football west NOT to play for Vikings as well). Only about half of the players could afford to play in Canberra, so they are missing a few players as well… Tis a shame to be sure, but good luck girls.
Fitness will definitely be an issue with 8 round robin games now of 25 minute halves. I wonder how many teams will have a full complement of 12 players to cope with this workload?
25min halves? But doesn’t FIFA say.. oh nevermind.. my bad!
Ronaldo, where did you get 25 min halves from? the finals will be stop time, but otherwise should be 20 minute halves no?
Tasmania withdrew due to the coach falling ill. Very disappointing indeed from our behalf but hoping to be there next year!
Ladies section was 25 minute halves last year and they are allowing a full hour per game, so i assume the same this year.
It is 25 minutes a half for the Vikings tournament. Which makes a lot of diffence to the game!
People have chosen what Nationals tournament they want to play in based on the opportunities provided, and how it will benefit them.
You cannot sit there and bring down players who have chosen to better their skills, and persue their dreams, or can you? To me it just seems that everyone just wants to have a whinge.
Get over it, and let them play!
Good luck to everyone. Lets do this for NSW and for the sport, nothing else!
Why were all the Vikings idiots slagging off the Sydney F-League about 25 minute halves when they are doing it themselves anyway at their tournaments.
Not only did they have a problem with 25mins halves but also stop the clock and from what I’ve been told they are not only r they having 25min halves but stop the clock for the senior semis and finals.
