TASSIE’S FINEST RETURN HOME

On Friday 27th November 5 Tasmanian juniors flew out to New Zealand to participate in the Vikings Futsal u/13 International Tour of New Zealand. Bronte Davison & Freya Crocker (Triple C’s), Lauren Grant (Islanders Academy), Ben Ryan (Islanders Academy) and Lucas Targett (Islanders Academy) all play in the local schools competition as well as having represented Vikings Tasmania in national competitions. Other members of the tour come from Queensland and NSW competitions. The coach is Keith Belcher from Vikings Queensland.

The tour headed to Christchurch where they trained as a group for the first two days before taking on the local representative squads in games. The girls game was reasonably evenly matched with the Australians getting across the line with a final score of 3-1, the boys game was more one sided with the final score line reading 11-3.

Following on from the Christchurch visit the group then headed to Queenstown to see more sights and participate in two games against local representative sides also. The girls had two resounding victories with the final score line being 13-1 and 10-2, the boys won their first of two games 8-1, but unfortunately went down in the second game 5-1.

The team hit the road again to travel to Dunedin where they not only warmed up with a visit to the local Cadbury Factory and the Baldwin Street hill climb, but also playing in more games against local representative teams. Competition here has proven a bit more even with the girls going down in the first of two games 4-5 but managing to regroup and secure a 1-0 win in the second game, the boys were once again up against some strong competition winning only one of their two games (don’t know the scores sorry).

From Dunedin the team headed back to Christchurch via Timaru, where they stopped off for lunch and some games against the local sides, the local girls were seriously outclassed with the Australian girls coming away with a 26-0 victory, the boys notched up another win also. Once the games were finished it was back on the road to Christchurch.

After more sightseeing and shopping there was a rematch organised with the teams from the previous weekend in Christchurch, the girls drew 0-0, while the boys unfortunately lost their game.

Monday and Tuesday will be spent touring around Hamner Springs and the local surrounds before the team head home to Australia on Wednesday (9th December).

All in all it has been a wonderful learning experience in both futsal and the New Zealand culture.

It’s a shame not many of these guys will play nationals but like I have stated previously it would be great to see a few of us younger boys get a crack at it! Hope we do Tassie proud!

    gregory on December 11th, 2009 12:11 pm

From what i hear… Some of the states best arent playing.

Shay Hickey – Doesnt want to be involved with Vikings.

    Ricky Self – Unavailable

McKenna – Stepped aside to coach…

    Jon Foley – Overseas

Igor Sao Jose – Back in Qld

In trouble Tassie… the side is nothing without McKenna

Big Dog on December 14th, 2009 9:23 am

also why are the best not playing? is there not respect within the playing group for the coach? can they not afford it? are they serious about futsal?

Big Dog on December 14th, 2009 9:25 am

    Big Dog
Id never write about myself… Plus im coaching so why would I bag the team out.

    To answer your other questions.
Outdoor starts very early down here, a lot players have to work. Plus you are right people cant afford it at that time of year.

    Mckenna on December 14th, 2009 10:09 am

Its incredibly funny that you use the same punctuation in your post as ‘jeeves’ did..

perhaps that is a co-incidence and you have not been found out?

Big Dog on December 14th, 2009 1:19 pm

For someone that obviously has nothing to do all day but cause trouble you have little idea about how things are going down here. But thats ok. This is a blog thats what I expect…

Thanks for the entertainment for the day. We have had a good laugh down here.

    CCFUTSAL on December 14th, 2009 10:09 pm

Now we’ve got your thoughts away from the Soopa poopa league results, lets look at the probable scenario for the future.
A National Futsal body TOTALLY separate from football administration.
A National Futsal body who would exclude the privateers taking the money out of the sport.
A National body who would exclude all football committees and people of little use (has junior “soccer” improved over the past 50 years ????? )
A National body whose main interest would be junior development ALL over the country (whilst acknowledging the importance of our seniors !)
A National body who chooses what is best for the players be it AMF or FIFA (and NOT held to ransom !)
A National body with close International contacts and a worldwide reputation within the sport.
A National body who would encourage you to continue to play where you are (most players wouldn’t notice any changes !)
A National body who offers players opportunities to play overseas.
A National body who offers top quality tours overseas and top merchandise and for those non business minds…the profits ALL go back into the sport of FUTSAL !
If you called that National body the Australasian Futsal Association many ears would prick up and listen.
If that National body was called lets say, VIKINGS Futsal Association I just wonder if the reaction would be the same ?………………..Now there’s a thought for Christmas !

    F.Sala on December 15th, 2009 6:28 am

hit the Christmas spirits early have you F.Sala …. (I’m claiming 4 dots)

I like it but there are too many who think Football is the way forward for the sport of Futsal

and besides I think that organisation already exists VF

    lol

    toepoke on December 15th, 2009 7:03 am

I know Vikings Futsal already exists toey ! You fink I’m fick or summat ?

    F.Sala on December 15th, 2009 7:08 am

“A National Futsal body who would exclude the privateers taking the money out of the sport.”

So that should include getting rid of VF, hahahahahahaha

For the love of the game on December 15th, 2009 8:46 am

FLOTG,a percentage of Football Qld’s new clubs in Brisbane are private individuals /companies, apparently as long as you pay the affiliation fees to Football, you are given a licence to make money…….. so there’s no problem it’s the FFA approved scenario.

    Henry on December 15th, 2009 9:51 am

    I am a super detective …

Big Dog on December 15th, 2009 10:23 am

you kid yourself mate i didit…. – just for you, as do lots of different people :)

    Henry on December 15th, 2009 11:25 am

I’ve also heard that there are some private individuals /companies that don’t pay the affiliation fees and have a licence to make even more money.

For the love of the game on December 15th, 2009 12:34 pm

yes well FTLOTG who are FIFA going to affiliate to, after all the are the biggest money making sporting organisation in the world

but no one minds them making a couple of bucks here and there

    toepoke on December 15th, 2009 1:52 pm

i find it hilarious, that so many people think that independent organizations that run sporting competitions throughout the country, and have international contacts, should NOT make any money… wtf??? who the hell is gonna do that?

i know Football West make money every time they send a team over to Nationals. No one(other then me it seems) seems overly concerned about that little fact. On top of which they don’t do ANYTHING else throughout the entire year.

    Brad on December 15th, 2009 4:36 pm

A National Futsal Body would be fantastic.

Question – FFA wake up tomorrow and decide that an Independent Futsal body is the way of the future. Will Vikings accept anything apart from… well… Vikings? (yep im a three dotter too).

IF we answer Yes to this question, then we are in trouble, neither FFA or Vikings alone deserve to run the sport alone. Yep Vikings has the (big)edge, there are no questions there, but they are still lacking. FFA (or as I like to refer Forgotten Futsal Already) are currently fighting a losing war and are not prepared to put resources into fighting it.

    F.Sala
You peddle AMF as being a real alternative to FIFA. Im a fan of yours, but you need to stop this. Nobody thinks it is, and yes I agree that they (AMF) do host a very sub standard women’s futsal tournament (which is one more then FIFA/AFC) but nobody really wants to play under the AMF banner. Ive been there and done that – its boring. AND if Vikings were serious about AMF, then all the Vikings hosted events would be the AMF laws of the game, which there not.

My only concern for Vikings is the very ordinary level of tournaments which we continually host. They are not as polished as they should be in this so called developed age of Futsal. Prior to the split, we had a great opportunity to showcase a Vikings run tournament when we hosted the FFA National Champs on the Gold Coast (yes I know but lets not pretend that moves were not in the pipeline back then to break away from the FFA). It was probably one of the worst in recent history, yet being in Sydney for this years, it was not a great deal better. Give people a better alternative and they will come.

    Go Tasmania

pirates are cooler then vikings (and the FFA) on December 15th, 2009 8:19 pm

Hey Pirates, whats this “moves in the pipeline to breakaway?” Oooooh, it was Vikings choice to split huh ?
Why did the FFA choose the Gold Coast….peak holiday period, high rents, high humidity, lack of facilities. Not the brightest of decisions but thats your FFA I guess.
Me peddle AMF ? perhaps I thought our kids and women deserved an alternative to sweet (fi) F.A. !
Not sure who you have in mind that “deserves” to run futsal but your comments show a little shortage of true/factual information is going your way ! Dont believe all you think is so….cos it aint !!!

    F.Sala on December 15th, 2009 8:59 pm

Pirates, you’re a fool mate… fancy taking on the resident guru…

Dont you know that OZ futsal wouldn’t be in the position it is today without F.Sala

    ronaldo on December 16th, 2009 6:06 pm

“Dont you know that OZ futsal wouldn’t be in the position it is today without F.Sala”
So HE stuffed it all up, Bwhahahahahaha

For the love of the game on December 17th, 2009 5:32 am

…..but if I’d got 3 more Queenslanders to attend an opening ceremony it would have made all the difference ! DUH !

    F.Sala on December 17th, 2009 6:24 am

shouldn’t this post be about tasmanian futsal and not a bung fight?

i agree with f. sala obviously!

just a note that all tassie teams are fit and ready for january (vikings) and can’t wait to get into it…..

also hats off to Western Australia for bringing the teams they are this year as this can only add to the excitement of our kids….

looking to add some international teams to the equation also with contacts from our end down here for the 2011 event!!

corey smith on December 17th, 2009 10:10 am

Corey, have a careful read and it is not hard to work out who turns it into a bun fight…

F.Sala only purpose in life is to bait people and take the p@#$ out everyone…

    GK on December 17th, 2009 11:21 am

Hey GK, If you remember anything you read I can be as sensible as the next person and as serious if the situation deserves. The fact that a lot of urinators post absolute garbage on here isnt down to me, If I extract some , so be it !
    Over to you sunshine ?

    F.Sala on December 17th, 2009 4:28 pm

You ca be sensible but your perverse sense of humour leads you to constantly take the mickey out of people and affects your credibility when you want to make a valid point.

    GK on December 17th, 2009 6:55 pm

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha CREDIBILITY ??? Hahahahahahahahahaha On the Internet ???? Hahahahahahahahaha c’mon GK, you are kidding me right ?
Next you’ll tell me you trust on line dating services, or you believe all Nigerians and Ghanaians are honest people ! And you say Ive a perverse sense of humour ? Hahahahahahahahaha

    F.Sala on December 17th, 2009 8:02 pm
