Qantas Futsalroos win ASEAN Zone qualifiers
FFA’s writeup of the Futsalroos winning the AFC qualifiers final
The Qantas Futsalroos have won the 2010 AFC Futsal Championship ASEAN Zone qualifiers after defeating Indonesia 3-0 in tonight’s final played in Jakarta.
Having qualified for the 2010 AFC Futsal Championship by finishing as one of the top three nations from the tournament, the Qantas Futsalroos were looking to add some silverware to their already successful campaign. The Qantas Futsalroos had the psychological advantage over their opponents going into the match as they had previously defeated the host nation 4-1 in the group phase of the competition.
Qantas Futsalroos midfielder Toby Seeto continued his fine tournament form by opening the scoring after just seven minutes following some good team build up play. Indonesia had a few chances afterwards to equalise, but the Qantas Futsalroos goalkeeper Angelo Konstantinou was up to the challenge and pulled off a number of crucial saves to keep his sheet clean.
Within seconds of the start of the second half, the Qantas Futsalroos doubled their advantage when Dean Lockhart slid his shot in at the far post after being set-up by an Adrian Vizzari pass.
The result was sealed in the 38th minute when Toby Seeto scored his fifth goal of the tournament with a fine solo effort that ended with a stinging left-footed shot which propelled the ball into the roof of the net.
Qantas Futsalroos Head Coach, Steven Knight was ecstatic that his team achieved their two goals of qualifying for the 2010 AFC Futsal Championship and winning the qualification tournament.
“The first half was a very even contest with both teams having plenty of opportunities to score,” said Knight
“Our players were very patient, held possession and defended well in front of a very large vocal home crowd.
“The team unity throughout the tournament has been fantastic.
“It has been an absolute pleasure to coach such a talented group of players and we’re looking forward to our next challenge in Tashkent,” concluded Knight.
In the third place play-off, Vietnam defeated Malaysia 6-3 in extra time after the scores were locked at 3-3 at the end of regular time.
The Qantas Futsalroos will now focus their attention towards the 2010 AFC Futsal Championships which will be played in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from 23-30 May.

Gepps Cross soccer push costed at $14.7m (SA)
News Soccer facility wanted in South Australia complete with Futsal courts
The Football Federation of South Australia wants funding for a new soccer facility at Gepps Cross in Adelaide.
It has been costed at $14.7 million and would have five soccer pitches, indoor futsal courts for a variation of the game and administrative offices.
Michael Carter from the Federation says land has been identified at the State Sports Park.
“The State Government owns the land and would need to offer that land to Football Federation SA,” he said.
“It’s absolutely pitched at sort of under 6s right through to our super league and may even be able to host international touring teams coming to Adelaide.”
Aussies Spoil Indonesia’s Curtain Call in AFC Futsal Qualifying
Futsalroos win 3-0 over Indonesia in the qualifying final
Indonesia’s send-off to the AFC Futsal Championship ended with a thud as it lost 3-0 to Australia in the Asean qualifying final at Gelora Bung Karno Tennis Indoor Stadium on Thursday.
Tobias Guang Hua Seeto scored twice for the Futsalroos, while Dean Lockhart added the other goal. Both teams had already secured places in the finals, which take place May 23-30 in Taskhent, Uzbekistan.
Vietnam claimed the last ticket to Tashkent, beating Malaysia 6-3 in the third-place match to avenge a 2-2 draw in the group stage. Vietnam is the defending Asean futsal champion, having won the title when it hosted the regional championship in June 2009. Its run to the title included an 11-10 victory over Indonesia in the semifinals.
Australia broke the deadlock in the final when Seeto shot past goalkeeper Yos Adi Wicaksono to give his side a 1-0 halftime lead. The visitors then stunned the home fans with a quick strike at the start of the second half, with Lockhart finding the net from an Adrian Vizarri feed.
Indonesia suffered a double blow on the play as its goalkeeper left the match injured following a collision with Lockhart.
The host pressed forward in search of a way back into the match, only for Seeto to wrap up the victory by scoring Australia’s third goal. Seeto also scored one of Australia’s goals when it defeated Indonesia 4-1 during Group A play on Monday.
Indonesia advanced to the final with a 5-3 defeat of Malaysia on Wednesday, while Australia knocked off Vietnam 4-1 in the other semifinal.

Early in the second half, Vietnam pulled a goal back when Truong Quoc Tua was left unmarked and slotted into an empty net after the Qantas Futsalroos goalkeeper, Angelo Konstantinou, came off his line to intercept a pass.
Midway through the second half Toby Seeto scored his second goal of the match when Greg Giovenali found him with a well-placed free-kick. Seeto’s deft left-footed finish restoring the Qantas Futsalroos two goal lead going into the final stages of the match. Fernando De Moraes sealed the result two minutes from time when he beat his defender out wide, cut inside and appeared to be fouled but the referee played advantage. In the process of falling De Moraes was able to get a foot to the ball and slid it past the keeper.
