Minto futsal player Dean Lockhart will proudly pull on the green and gold of the Futsalroos when he travels to Jakarta from February 20 to 25 to contest the Asian Football Confederation Futsal Championship ASEAN zone qualifiers.
The top three teams will qualify for the AFC Futbal Championship in Uzbekistan in late May.
A defender with Campbelltown City Quake Futsal Club, Lockhart, 22, has had a sensational season, anchoring his open men’s team into this year’s Premier Futsal League grand final this weekend.
He also represented NSW at this year’s national titles in Canberra, and will compete with the NSW Thunder in the inaugural Asia Champions League for futsal clubs in Iran next month.
This will not be the first time Lockhart has tested his skills on the international stage.
He was also part of the Australian team’s campaign to qualify for the Futsal World Cup in Brazil in 2008.
In Indonesia, the Futsalroos are drawn in group A with Indonesia and Myanmar, while Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia and the Philippines make up group B.
