Vikings NZ Youth NPC only two months away
Provincial representative sides from Northland, Auckland, Wairarapa, Wellington, Canterbury, South Canterbury, Otago and Central Otago will battle it out to be crowned National Champions and as individuals, vie for Vikings New Zealand team selection.
Currently there are 36 teams across 7 age groups locked in with a couple of Provinces still putting the final touches to their sides. This will make this tournament New Zealands first true National Futsal event and a huge step foward for the sport after just 5 years.
Vikings Futsal NZ CEO, Paul Wadsworth, is very excited about the upcoming event. “This is the culmination of 5 years of hard work that has finally seen Futsal gain some traction as a sport in it’s own right”. “The bringing together of Futsal talent from around New Zealand who have progressed from playing club Futsal to representative Futsal will be a huge shot in the arm for the game and will inspire more to look at the sport more seriously”. Wadsworth points out that there are many players making Futsal their number one sport now. “In the futre the youth will have some Futsal hero’s to look up to as players start to specialise in Futsal”. “Players like Bakr Alsaudi, Michael Sannum, Josh Cremen, Noran Abaza and Aimee Philips will become household names in the Futsal community which is very exciting”.
According to Wadsworth, the best is yet to come for Futsal in New Zealand with many Youth players starting to stand out. Keep your eye out for names like Olivia Hodgson (15yrs Canterbury), Sahara McDonald (15yrs Central Otago), Chelsea Stockdill (14yrs Canterbury), Tom Morely (19yrs Canterbury) Joe Davies (16yrs Canterbury) Joe Bell (12yrs Canterbury), Brett Clifford (16yrs South Canterbury), Connor Ceci (14yrs Central Otago), Nic Vinniecomb (14yrs Otago) and Mitchell Ellicott (14yrs Wairarapa)
The National Provincial Championships will kick off at QEII Park Stadium Christchurch on Saturday April 3rd and run through until Monday April 5th.
