Last weekend saw the 1st training camp for the Australian Women’s Futsal World Cup Squad in Brisbane. Newly appointed coach Amanda Bowering was very pleased with the turnout and skill level by all squad members. From the camp coach Amanda is selecting a team to participate in the Trans Tasman series against New Zealand in August.
The team will travel to Timaru, Dunedin and Christchurch for a 3 match series against New Zealand. Then in October the team will travel to Malaysia for a tournament against Thailand, Malaysia, Canada, USA, Brunei as well as other countries. The tournament will be held from 25th – 30th October 2010.
Coach Amanda said that she is looking forward to both tournaments, as it will give an indication of where the team is for the all important Women’s World Cup at the end of the year in Spain. “All players will need to be fully focused if they are to make the world cup final team which will be named later in the year. With 3 more training camps and 2 tournaments before the final 12 players are selected for the World Cup, no one is guaranteed a spot in the team. We need to lift our fitness if we are too make it through to the final of the World Cup. Australia did very well at the last world cup, however we want to better that by winning. To win the tournament we need to take away the best team available, which we are well on the way of doing with the squad we have”.
