GAP Connah’s Quay’s academy youngsters enjoyed success on home turf when Flintshire hosted an international futsal tournament.
Futsal is a form of small-sided indoor football developed in South America and common in Europe, focusing on control and passing.
Nomads under 16s faced four Australian touring sides plus teams from Rhyl, Airbus UK Broughton and The New Saints academies.
In their first game of the evening, Nomads beat the Australian Vikings A team 4-0 with goals from skipper Ryan Jones, Jamie Wynne and two for George Baxter.
They then defeated Vikings B 3-0, Scott Bainbridge finishing off a 20-pass move for the opener before Baxter grabbed his third of the tournament and Andrew Hoxby polished things off to secure Nomads’ semi final berth.
In their dead rubber, Nomads edged out Rhyl 3-2 Shaun Tinsley, Baxter and Jamie Wynne scoring.
The semi was a derby clash against Airbus. In a tight contest, Nomads knocked their rivals out 2-0 thanks to a brace from Jordan Beck.
Waiting for Nomads in the final were The New Saints, and Josh Atkin kept the scores level with a series of saves from TNS counter-attacks.
Two goals in two minutes from Shaun Tinsley got Nomads’ noses in front and even a late goal from TNS was not enough to stop the silverware staying on Deeside.
