North Queensland development officer Craig Perfect said the exciting indoor sport enjoyed its greatest popularity over the summer months in Townsville with 46 teams participating in this year’s competition.
”Futsal was a popular off-season sport with many of the region’s footballers who used the fast and furious indoor version of the game to hone their skills during the summer months,” Perfect said.
”We usually have between 40 and 50 teams compete in our summer comp every year and some of the more dedicated players will now continue in our winter competition.”
The standard of the grand finals were high, according to Perfect, who said many of Townsville’s leading junior players are now making their mark in state and national teams.
”The playing standards are improving every year and there wasn’t a lot between all our grand final teams on the weekend as you can see from the scores. They were all very competitive games,” Perfect said.
