Bayside Eagles 6 d Gold Coast Tigers 3

Brisbane’s Bayside Eagles went straight to the top of the table in the Queensland Winter Futsal League following last weekend’s matches at Beenleigh Arena and are now six points clear of Gold Coast Tigers.

Bayside now boasts nine wins from nine outings in the inaugural Championship and their six goals to three shut-out of Gold Coast Tigers ensures they are well on their way to claiming the minor premiership title.

Leading goal scorer Greg Stekiewicz as expected led the Eagles goal frenzy slotting home three goals, whilst Justin Morrison, Ben Hutchinson and Kevin Hoare picked up one goal a piece.

Gold Coast Tigers will now regroup after a hapless last two outings in the competition where a number of their key players are under an injury clowd and the team has perform below expectations.

In other matches from Friday evening Beenleigh had a shock loss to the second Gold Coast team when they were swamped 13-5 .

Gold Coast’s Alaa Bojre was unstoppable scoring five superb goals and ably helped out by team mate Nawef Ahazza who skillfully plotted home three goals for the challengers.

Beenleigh who have stormed through the last few weeks of the league with impressive wins against Magic FC and Gold Coast Tigers to hold third place looked tired and unable to effectively penetrate Gold Coast’s back line of defenders.

Asiri Mohummad and Hisham Alsaghier held strong in the backline for Gold Coast with the veteran player Alsaghier picking up a couple of goals himself with some penetrating forward runs.

Gold Coast are now 5 and 4 moving into fourth position just behind Beenleigh and if they can continue their recent form will certainly keep their opponents honest for the remainder of the matches.

The next round of the Queensland Winter Futsal League will be played at Logan Metro, June 18th 2010.
