National Futsal goalkeeper Thomas Costa has been ruled out from the Fiji team after failing to recover in time for the Oceania Football Confederation Futsal Championship in Suva next month.

Costa and Fiji Under-20 rep Ilisoni Logaivau sustained injuries while representing their teams in the National Soccer League.

Ralogaivau recovered in time while Costa’s ankle injury did not favour him to represent the country.

The Navua stopper has been replaced by Tavua goalie Josaia Ratu. Ratu was initially named but failed to turn up at training.

The national management decided to give the youngster another chance to have a crack at the Oceania event.

Team manger Krishneel Sharma said it was unfortunate Costa was ruled out from the team. He said the national had prepared well despite the injury cloud that struck some players.

“He (Costa) has been in camp but he has been ruled out because of the injury he sustained. We were hoping that he will recover in time but only Ilisoni (Logaivau) recovered in time.”

“It is unfortunate for us and it is likely that Josaia Ratu will be his replacement,” Sharma said.

Meanwhile Petero Dauniseka has been cleared to feature for the national team. Dauniseka played for Ba last Sunday despite all players were warned not to feature for their district teams.

Sharma said they would make a final decision on Dauniseka after the tournament next month.
