Round 1 results for the ACT Joma Premier League
The Canberra Olympic Supercats have made the perfect start to the 2010/2011 JOMA Futsal Premier League season with a crushing 9-0 victory over last season’s beaten finalists, Boomerangs FS, as the first round of action got underway at the Australian Institute of Sport on Thursday evening.
The Supercats were in superlative form and were far too strong for their courageous opponents throughout a match in which they dominated. Olympic outdoor player Elia Salloum led the scoring spree, grabbing four goals of his own, with Scott Manson not far behind, netting a first round double. Adrian Dowling, Lee Pietrukowski and Futsalroo international Tom Rogic were the other scorers as the Supercats started the season with a firm statement of intent.
Cooma Tigers first match at this level showcased the quality that they have in abundance as they saw off fellow newcomers ANU FC 7-2. Tony Aleksovski was the leading scorer for the Tigers with a well-taken hat-trick whilst Marcial Munoz was on target twice as the Tigers fluid, incisive, Futsal caused the students numerous problems throughout the contest. Goran Josifovski and Kitsana Muongsene completed the rout with ANU responding via goals from Phillip Mackay and Angus Patterson.
WVFC Timberwolves and Tuggeranong United Gunners fought out a highly entertaining 3-3 draw to kick off their respective seasons and shared two points each after the six-goal score-draw. In a see-saw encounter James McLachlan and Luke Fattore struck for the Gunners, along with the mercurial Matt Menser, whilst Grant Davoren, Kole Aitken and Australian junior outdoor representative Ben Harrington replied in kind for the Timberwolves.
The match between the defending champions Belconnen United and Canberra City Prawns was awarded to the Prawns on a 5-0 forfeit after the Blue Devils were unable to raise a team.
