Rae shines in Malaysia (NZ)

South Canterbury’s Peter Rae is part of the New Zealand team tasting success at the Vikings World Futsal Championships in Kuala Lumpur.

The team has won through to the semifinals, and in doing so qualified for the World Games in Colombia.

New Zealand confirmed their semifinal spot after beating Australia in a penalty shootout after the game was tied 3-all. Rae scored in regular time and then helped them win the shootout.

Their opening two games of the tournament were a resounding 14-0 victory over Singapore and a 7-2 win against Brunei.

Futsal is a variant of football that is played on a smaller playing area and is mainly played indoors.
