Depleted Allstars still prove too strong (NSW)

The injury depleted Inner West Allstars took on the still winless Dural Warriors at the Homebush Sports Halls on Saturday evening.

With the Allstars carrying an injury and suspension list of Caridad, Connor, Muscat, Spirovski, and Dundovic there would never have been a better opportunity for the Warriors to collect their first points of the season and it was the inform Katrina Kraft that had the games first opportunity when a lovely diagonal ball from Adriana “AJ” Cirjak found Kraft waiting at the back post.

Had it not been for a sensational point blank save from Amanda Horafios the score board attendant would’ve been called upon within 2 minutes.

The games first goal did come after 6 minutes and it was the diminutive Helen Petinos who dispossessed Cirjak and hit a deadly strike past Cherrington in the Warriors goal to open the scoring.

Petinos was beginning to be a real thorn in the Warriors side and it was her square ball after being released by a great through ball from young Kristi Pavlicevic to Natasha Lo Giudice at the back post which the latter struck just wide.

Allstars extended their lead 4 minutes later when Rose Scarlato skipped pass a Warrior defender and found Lo Giudice lurking at the back post who unselfishly squared the ball to the awaiting Petinos who easily tapped in to get her second of the game.

Jacqui Frier then had a shot cleared of the line by Lo Giudice and as Horafios recovered the ball Daniella Calvi was put through only to be denied by a good 1 on 1 save by Cherrington.

The Warriors then had an opportunity with the last play of the half through Demelza Howard who was just wide with her strike.

Dural opened the second half with two excellent chances first via Dudman who should’ve scored from directly in front after a lovely 1-2 with Howard and then Kraft hit the post from close range.

Horafios was in inspired form denying both Kraft and Brown but the game was effectively over when Natasha Lo Giudice was put through by Daniella Calvi to hit a low shot past the Warrior custodian to make it 3-0.

A minute later Howard struck under Horafios to pull a goal back for the Warriors and gave her team a faint hope of stealing something from the game.

But that was not to happen.

Horafios had the last laugh even denying Frier a penalty after the final whistle to seal a convincing victory for the home side and terrific individual performance .
