Supercats roar on while Tigers find their claws (ACT)
JOMA Futsal Premier League Mens Round 7 – Review
Canberra Olympic Supercats moved five points clear at the top of the JOMA Premier League on Wednesday last week as they defeated Canberra City Prawns 6-3 in their top-of-the-table clash. A hat-trick from Tom Rogic, the league’s leading scorer with fifteen goals, did most of the damage for the super-slick Supercats with Lee Pietrukowski, regular scorer Elia Salloum and Matt Whyte netting for the top placed team. In reply Pat Ross-Magee bagged a brace for the Prawns with Ryan Keir completing the names on the score sheet in what was, by all accounts, a terrific match.
Cooma Tigers meanwhile showed they may be a force to be reckoned with in the competition with a scintillating 6-0 drubbing of reigning title holders Belconnen United. Tony Aleksovski and Goran Josifovski scored two each as Cooma ran riot in their best performance of the season. It was certainly a match to forget for the Blue Devils as further goals to Dale Schoon and Misko Naumoski rounded out a wonderful attacking display by the Tigers.
TUFC Gunners climbed into second place on the ladder with an expected 5-1 defeat of Boomerangs FS. The skillful Martin Corujo led the way in the scoring stakes with a double whilst James McLachlan, Peter McLachlan and Luke Fattore also scored as the 2009 Premier League Champions flexed their muscles against the struggling Boomerangs. Glenn Smith netted for the second time this season for the well-beaten Boomerangs.
In a battle of the teams in the lower reaches of the ladder it was WVFC Timberwolves who came out on top celebrating their first win of the season as they saw off the challenge of ANU FC 2-1. Grant Davoren and Jeoff Noja were the goal heroes for WVFC Timberwolves whilst Phillip Mackay smashed his sixth goal of the season in reply for the students. This match could have gone either way with plenty of chances for both teams but come the final whistle it was the Timberwolves who took home the three points.
